Hope this kind of school reaches my country. I'm very interested in learning more about bitcoins i am enrolled in an online course but still I believe a hands-on study or a socially active studying is much better than reading an article on the web.

I doubt they'll get many students, unless tuition is free. Better study economics. BTC's only a very small part of it. Same thing for the blockchain, it's better to study programming.

Wow.. If only I lived in Cape Town I'd like to enroll in that academy for sure. That is an interesting idea to broaden bitcoin to society. Really that would be so fun by having bitcoiner classmates. Roll Eyes

The Academy currently offers three courses: Bitcoin 101 Course, Blockchain 101 Course, and Blockchain-based application course.

I would be incredibly interested to see what the scope of these three courses are and see if they cover more than the classes that are readily available online.

You can learn anything on the internet these days. It doesn't replace the interaction and social mobility that going to a course like this offers. For instance, many of the top universities offer their course content online, but you couldn't compare that to the one to one tutoring, lab work, social interaction that you get from actually physically being at a well respected establishment. I think it would be interesting to see whether more broader subject area's pop up that will appeal to bitcoin companies looking for talent such as Cryptography, distributed computing / networking etc.. it seems a good Computer Science student can focus on these kind of area's and will still be alot more useful than a guy who's completed a course in 'Bitcoin'

You know, this makes me wonder how feasible it is to immigrate to the US as a bitcoin consultant. I mean, there's really no education to point to. Maybe some computer science courses that are somewhat related. Anyways, it would be great to help people understand bitcoin and see how much better it is than many mainstream services. It could be a great tool for those rejected by the banking system. Bitcoin has the same potential as the internet had a long time ago, look at it now! Now, all we need to do is wait 20 years, bitcoin (or another Cryptocurrency, if we let bitcoin fall behind) will be everywhere.
Used by many, not only those who have actively searched for it. With courses or self education.
... sorry, I'm rambling, arent I?

I am curious what they who studying there will do after graduated from that academy. It will be right momentum for them to make bitcoin become more popular, especially in Africa.

Neat to see that their is a Bitcoin Academy opening in Cape Town

The Bitcoin Academy opened in Cape Town and is located in the same Bandwidth Barn business incubator as BitHub, which launched in June. Sonya Kuhnel, the founder of the Bitcoin Academy, was one of the collaborators on the BitHub launch together with Cape Innovation and Technology Initiative

The Academy currently offers three courses: Bitcoin 101 Course, Blockchain 101 Course, and Blockchain-based application course. The last one is for developers only who wish to build their apps based on the blockchain technology. The courses last one day and are subject to fees. The Bitcoin Academy offers training online, onsite, or in the classroom.

Looking at the level they are general introduction courses for now.
