Your point of view is actually as good as mine. In as much as many organizations, businesses, and individuals would want to accept or spend Bitcoin, the hurdle therein is still how to overcome the highly volatile nature of bitcoin and other crypto assets. Except those who are well informed in Fintech, forex, and crypto, it will be very hard to believe crypto.

In my opinion, the biggest factor limiting the educational institutions from accepting crypto in general is the volatility of the market prices. Since the facilities have to use the tuition payments to pass on further for salaries / funding different departments, they have to liquidate the bitcoin that they would get as payment almost instantly to avoid losing any money from the volatility.

Another burden that they would have to face would be trusting an exchange to convert the tuition payment into local currency quickly without paying much fee and trusting that the exchanges have good security measures in place as well.

I'm not saying I don't agree with Universities accepting crypto for tuition, but I believe that they have many downsides to doing so which will prevent many universities all over the world from doing this.

All the schools listed in the OP started accepting Bitcoin long before 2020 and as far back as 2013. That shows that those institutions were interested in being part of the early adopters of the innovative payment system. Obviously, not as a result of pandemic. I just hope many more universities join the movement in no distant time.

Acceptability is still very limited. A handful of universities are accepting payments in Bitcoin, but that is mostly for ideological purposes. Don't expect global acceptability for Bitcoin at least for the next 5 years. For now, you can make the payments after converting your coins to fiat using any cryptocurrency exchange or peer-to-peer platform.

Now, universities accepting Bitcoin are also increasing.

Your question is a difficult one to give a straight answer. The high volatility of Bitcoin is basically the reason the sustainability of such move would be questioned owing to the fact that no business would want to lose money to the thin air when they've got other option to adopt and evade any foreseeable loss. That's why most businesses and institutions today are still dragging their feet from adopting Bitcoin as a means of payment. But as the industry grows and the ecosystem begins to witness less volatility I believe that massive adoption will follow. However, to be fair to those of them that are already accepting it, I think they deserve commendation because it's definitely a bold move. And of course, some of them are still accepting it for tuition and fees today.

Some Universities are already introducing Bitcoin and Blockchain technologies courses into their Finance and Tech related programs. Here's an example I saw in the curriculum of an Information Systems MS program in one of the top business schools in the US.

It is just so good to know that there are lots of certain institutions like universities who are already taking part of the massive adaption of Bitcoin usage on which they are taking part of it as they adapt on using Bitcoin as their payment option for paying tuition fees on their university proper. It is just so good to see that they are now recognizing the essence of the existence of Bitcoin and they are now accepting it into their institution so their students as well as parents will be able to know Bitcoin more and adapt on using it since they have introduced it as the new mode of payment. But still it will be good to take it slow and have fiat still on the option for there might be other families who still cannot take part of the adaption taken by the universities so it will still be good to think of the welfare of the students as well.

Now that's great to hear by the way. I can see that schools are starting to adopt cryptocurrencies for enrollment, tuition fees, etc. This is a great thing, but I wish that the schools in the Philippines are going to adopt this one day.

I guarantee you that those universities OP had mentioned for sure have a good educational system. Understanding how complicated yet have a of benefits Bitcoin have is a very applaudable matter, especially if it is a university. Bitcoin adaptation may be slowly progressing as we are approaching the future of the technology but soon we could have that cashless society which I find cool and convenient. By accepting Bitcoin as a payment for tuition, those universities would indeed going to have a bright future ahead, especially whenever Bitcoin makes an ATH.

I agree with you totally. We need many more universities to adopt this innovative technology that gave birth to bitcoin and also accept bitcoin itself as a mode of payment for most of their programs and services. It will be the most popular to spread the message of bitcoin to the young generation since many young people are tied to these institutions. Also, I can say that many universities are already offering courses and programs on blockchain, cryptocurrencies, bitcoin, and FinTech and this I believe will increase the popularity of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in years to come, especially, as many more institutions introduce more of such programs and course. They are only doing their business and that accepting bitcoin as an option of payment could be mean nothing and are just part of business. In the end if we ca  see the transaction then definitely we can see transaction like btc-btc directly fiat value in which probably most establishment who accept btc will going to accept it to after receiving it another platform will be used to convert btc to fiat. Of course, if you are a business owner and wanted to get clear or net profit then you shoulf a stable currency which is more likely the fiat unless also tge teachers wanted to receive salary as btc but the value should not be pegged to stable currency and that means that the teacher salary will not be fixed and will depend on the btc market value and that would be complicated.

Yes, those universities were part of early adopters and they are still strongly connected to bitcoin and blockchain development. Particularly, University of Nicosia in particular, popularly acclaimed the first university to adopt still maintains its stronghold on the cryptospace by starting the first MS in Digital Currency program and sponsoring an annual cryptocurrency gathering before pandemic struck. This is a good news for the crypto adoption on a mainstream sector. But I am not sure if using bitcoin is a good choice to pay tuition payment. Because bitcoin become an asset now. That is something that you expect to grow.

There is a possibility that the payment of tuition fee with bitcoin in colleges and universities will bring out problems, there would be an unfair different amount paid by each student depending on the state of the market, this probably will cause confusion and arguments between students and staff,. So the only solution to this is to make use of stable coin for payment of tuition fee. Irrespective of the market status, stable coin like usdt will be good n transacting with that.

It would sound weird if they would stop accepting such mode of payment once bull market is over.They should more adjust the amount if ever market price will again fall than to make a sudden stop to a mode of payment wherein in the first place they are the ones to make that offer. But that's indeed a good question, will it sustain the financial needs of the school? 'coz probably they won' t use Bitcoin to pay for services when the price is low, unless the owner of the school is mad rich that he will be able to provide money in order to Bitcoins of the school to not be used and to be held until the market price again become bullish, if a downfall occur in this market.

Sorry to break this to you but that is going to be the last step in the road to gain worldwide adoption for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, governments are not going to willingly relinquish the power they have obtained through centuries of deceiving people, they are going to resist to the very end any effort by their population to let go of the control they have over them.

This is why adoption seems to be moving so slowly even if the value of bitcoin is skyrocketing, at first governments tried to ban it and to discourage its use but once they saw they could not do that then they tried to regulate it as much as they could and once they realized that they cannot do that either most likely they are going to try to ban it again, and only once they fail on those measures they will recognize that they have no option but to adopt it.

It depends on the country in which the institution is for students to stand in queue to pay school/tuition fee, they can do that using a transfer of fiat to institutions account, and the pandemic is no reason why those institution accepts Bitcoin, they evolved, they saw it a good addition to the school/tuitions fee mode of payment, they should not explain that, or need a bad situation to come before accepting Bitcoin.

i found few of them that are not in OP's list. but i believe, this year 2020, there are additional ones that maybe has not published yet in the media. and because of this pandemic, more then likely some countries which has legal outlook towards bitcoin will encourage their schools and universities to add crypto as part of their payment option

Yet the flow is nearly 1 university a year because since 2013 there is only 5 that accepts this as payment.

But of course it is more better than nothing and also while Blockchain is being introduced to the student meaning in the next 10-20 years these student will be the Best way of this community to finally be Welcomed in all areas of businesses because for sure that those student will have their own areas in which Blockchain and crypto will be introduced and pursue.

Then those parents who have bitcoin can now pay their child's tuition faster and easier. But the problem is that, limited number universities only have the guts to accept bitcoin as a payment tool for tuition. Not all institutions and universities are knowledgeable about it and they don't know how it works and regulated. schools are complicated when it comes to adding payment methods and theres two types of schools that are government and non government .

non government type of schools can easily recognized btc as an addition to thier payment method while there can be a step to do on government type school for btc to be included on thier school . dont wish that 500 school will soon join btc because that is small but there are huge number of schools per country . aim for more

As a Bitcoin enthusiasts, I am certainly very happy to know that there are already several universities that have accepted Bitcoin payments.
Even though the number of universities that received tuition payments in Bitcoin was still small, I consider this a very good step for Bitcoin
adoption. I am also optimistic that in the next few years there will be more universities that accept Bitcoin payments. Especially after Paypal

I've just read recently that Pizza hut accepts bitcoin. And now there are universities already accepting it to pay for students' tuition. That's just amazing. And I have noticed that it's not that recent. I mean, those universities are already accepting bitcoin 3-7 years ago. That just means that it's effective, right? ^ Definitely agree, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Business School in Spain is also accepting Bitcoin as payment for the tuition fee. though the number of these schools is still few I am pretty sure that in a not so far distant time other schools will also follow especially those who are offering courses that are related to technology in particular to blockchain IMO. As other institutions are already acquiring bitcoins in their services hence it is not impossible that even schools and universities around the globe will be acquiring it as payment. In my country, there is no school yet that accepts bitcoins for the tuition fee instead they need to convert their bitcoin first into our local currency before they can make a payment for the tuition fee using a local wallet platform.

There's a typo in my previous messages. But you can integrate SEC when it come to an investment cause they have the right to melt into every affairs that have to do with investors protection, fairness in the market etc. Mind you, the SEC wont have be involved in cryptocurrency if there is no overlapping of scam activities by cryptocurrency scammers in the uear 2017 and the last time i checked the SEC work independently though they federal agency but they never for once operate over their roles.
They seems not to be against crypto and the statement made by US SEC CEO are message that could help the surge in price of the market.

This is really interesting and a good start as well, and will of course gradually compel others to take the same path, and before one can know it, Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, as well as blockchain will be studied in more universities. some universities that accept bitcoin or adopt bitcoin as a means of payment for their students are certainly the best choice to prove that bitcoin is a payment technology that has a good future.  It also depends on the country where the university is located.  several other states have unclear regulations on bitcoin.  Universities that adopt bitcoin payments certainly add subjects on bitcoin, cryptocurrency and blockchain technology as additional subjects.  In my country this kind of adoption is still very far away, regulation is limited to commodity trading and nothing more.  The longer the adoption of bitcoin will be more widespread and not only as a speculative asset but a revolutionary payment option.

Yes, the world is now aware of bitcoin, which attracts more people to join the bitcoin world. First of all, i want to enlighten you guys that alot of Universities in the US and UK have been accepting Bitcoin for tuition payment before now and even before payment integration of cryptocurrency but i guess most people are not aware of it.

I think it's great for more institutions to accept Bitcoin and I see this as a huge plus for the adoption.

However, it's important to note that it's just akin to having more payment methods. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing bad about it. Having more payment methods is beneficial to the adoption but it isn't synonymous as people seeing it as a store of value. The volatility of Bitcoin is way too much for most to shoulder especially when it's so hard to use Bitcoin. Until Bitcoin becomes less volatile, the adoption rate won't be high at all. It's definitely good publicity to be one of the few to accept crypto though (something something about innovation within the university)?

I don't think they are against cryptocurrency adoption. If they do then, they won't accept BTC as payment.  I see it as them (university) having concern on the possible losses of a student if ever they bought BTC at the wrong time.  Nevertheless, I believe the university is just taking advantage of the technology offered by BTC, and at the same time going with the trend.  And I agree, if universities really support Bitcoin and Blockchain technology, they should add them to the school curriculum.

It's still good that they accept bitcoin but the proposal that comes after that seems like it's a bad coin and users should only use if they accidentally bought it. It might affect your business since the price is moving up and down in just a small time, it also depends on the country because not all country is exposed to this technology. But might not be as useful because I don't think bitcoin is suitable for spending but more like just for investment at this moment.

It's a small list so far, but I really hope it'll get bigger because investing in education is my priority for the near future and it's also one of the reasons I tend not to hodl too much in BTC because I won't be able to use it when I need it. It would also be great if it applied to other areas, such as paying visa fees, purchasing accommodation and stuff like that. Who knows, maybe one day the scholarships would also be available in BTC, and it would be easy to spend them on regular things... What's sad is that the list of universities suggests these few started accepting BTC a while ago, and there doesn't seem to be much progress with others joining more recently.

Its really great that step by step the world was now adopting bitcoin. For now even though its is only some universities that accepted bitcoin as a tuition payment hoping that sooner other universities will consider this alos.  It may took a lot more years for us to wait that the world may accept cryptocurrency or bitcoin as a whole, and a mode of payment and transactions and even became one of the worlds currency but knowing that there has some steps like this surely give a good sign to the huge potential ahead.

Only a handful as of the moment but I reckon the number would be higher once most institutions and firms around academes start accepting bitcoin too. It will be some kind of a domino effect for this to happen, and it's really not that impossible to happen considering that huge companies already have something to say about bitcoin. Though that's the case, it's still good and refreshing to see that these universities up until now are still accepting bitcoin as-is with no additional catch whatsoever. Only a few dares to do that and I hope it paid off for these institutions.

The university's movements to accept bitcoin for tuition payment is a great step in the education world. If that can integrate without any problem, the other universities will follow this step. We need more universities to accept bitcoin to be used for education or in schools and universities. We know that the young generation is now aware of the new technology. Maybe sooner or later, we will see that the university has a lesson about crypto to attract more young people to studied more about crypto. The popularity of bitcoin to young people will also increase because they will learn how to use bitcoin before using bitcoin to pay their tuition.

The only one benefiting in this side of transaction is the universities. You see, when the price of bitcoin is lower, they will increase tuition to match the fiat value of that tuition and when the price is high, they do not have to do anything about it because they still have a degree of authority to the point that it will be difficult to ask for a rollback in tuition. The only I see that benefits the students is creating a system where you can choose whether you want to pay crypto or fiat, this is difficult too as universities will want their big piece of the pie and will do anything in their means to profit.

Although I see the list of those universities as positive, I'm sorry to say that I think the adoption of those kinds of payments in the rest of them is going to be very slow.

Once I visited that person and enquired about it, he says even after he is willing to accept cryptocurrency for his service, he could not found even a single person who is willing to spend cryptocurrency. In last 3 years, he didn't have even a single person paid in cryptocurrency for his services. I happen to be the first person in his list as I had paid through ETH due to the relatively smaller amount. But that's the harsh reality!

Absolutely, many universities across the world are realizing that fact that the potential of new technologies like blockchain can not be underestimated. And if any higher institution of learning must remain competitive then embracing such techs becomes paramount. That's why schools like Nicosia decided to jump in early into the cryptospace and is now taking the lead by even offering a master's degree in blockchain and digital currency. I'm excited that other institutions are now embracing the technology at a fast pace.

Great point you've made - 'government to lower their pride and decentralize their economies'. Unfortunately, it's not going to happen in real life. The governments I know would always want to restrict people's lives and deny them of their rightful freedom as humans. Government would tell you that a decentralized system would portray them as being weak in authority, which is a total fallacy. They would always want to control everything and that's why bitcoin seems like a big threat to them. Notwithstanding, bitcoin has come to stay and will defeat all its enemies at the end.

I personally think that the university has identified Bitcoin as the spearhead of new technology. however, even when using a third-party system, in fact the additional fee involved is only one percent if paying with Bitcoin, which is much lower than if they were using traditional payment methods.

The whole adoption we have been seeking is gradually gaining the mainstream attention, educational institutions, financial institutions. What more do we need? It is left for governments of several countries to lower their pride and decentralize their economies; by leveraging on the growing of the digital freedom. Bitcoin isn't just a coin, it is an economy to reckon on.

As a passionate fan of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general, it has always been my desire to see bitcoin become a payment of choice for many businesses and organizations around the world. Judging by recent developments across the world, I can say that the desire is gradually coming to fruition.


With Bitcoin now being accepted by some major universities in different countries and businesses like Overstock, Microsoft and others, I feel confident that crypto adoption is going in the right direction and in no distant time, cryptocurrencies with $BTC taking the lead will become major contenders in the payment ecosystem as medium of exchange.
