I cannot figure out why it moves 1:1 as if ETH did not have its own market.

I suggest you look at the ETH / BTC price. You'll see that ETH is falling (overall) not only against USD, it's also falling against Bitcoin.
So no, there's no 1:1, they are decoupled.

I imagine this is an old topic but for the life of me I cannot figure out why it moves 1:1 as if ETH did not have its own market.

Is it because 60%+ of the trades are crypto-to-crypto? Is it the futures in BitMex? What are the movers.

Or is it just that people HODL equal amounts of ETH and BTC and buy/sell them together? (doubtful)

Any ideas?

This is quite confusing why ?
bitcoin and etherum has never moved at a ratio of 1:1
so probably maybe you mean something else entirely

Alot of crypto and usdt trades take place daily, so crypto to crypto trade is not a reason at all
MOvers?
i can't say
