Can't believe I'm posting in a thread with this title haha, but any supposed risks, threats you would find with any other payment method are also on bitcoin and vice versa.

You are on the internet and you can't believe that somehow you came across something that's about porn?  Tongue Tongue

haha, well public and private keys do get me all hot and bothered? Especially if they are married.

I agree.

Also with loads of credit card scams and ID-theft bitcoin would be much safer for the consumer.

Not exactly, many bitcoin users have gotten their wallets 'stolen' by viruses from this community..

I think that both recurring payments and age verification requirements can be met through payment processors like bitpay.

i guess its still very small in that business but it fits perfect in there! also remember, that bitcoin is just some years old and it has a long way for mainstream adoption.

A previous thread with the exact same topic finished with this. Thought it made a lot of sense.

There is a major problem with porn sites.
I have a friend which owns a few and he knows a few guys in this business. He even went to the Budapest convention this year. I've been bugging him a lot about bitcoins but i finally got an answer.
This below will sum up the icq conversation they had.

The problem , apart from the recurring fees , is the anonymity of the user.
One of the managers of an affiliate program , one of the biggest after Manwin , (i'm not going to name him for obvious reasons) said something like that:

The moment we accept bitcoins and not credit cards there will be a kid somewhere buying access , and there will be a parent catching him in the act and a newspaper telling the story.
It downs't matter that the kid could have watched porn for free on a tube , downloaded it from free or anything else.
In that moment a mob of angry activist will hammer us with lawsuits into oblivion as we don't already have enough problems with them.
And in the end , something like , we won't risk getting into trouble for a 10% increase in sales , a 20% increase because there will be no charge backs and a 50% decrease because of recurring payments.

Of course i think this would be a total different story about videochat websites but .. i don't know and have nobody i know in  that business.

This is clearly an industry which could benefit from Bitcoin adoption. Other than a patch work of small sites, there has not been widespread use yet.

I could also see this being used for micro transactions.. like buying only a single video or image, or subscribing to a site for just a few hours to try it out (I already do this for VPN services, love it - I don't need a month's subscription to watch 1 episode on Hulu).

What VPN service is this?

Mullvad.net - you can buy 24 hours for 0.0005 BTC.

Recurring payments , which account to more than 25% percent (considering some topics on gfy)
Without these most porn sites would close.

And age verification.

Yeah, I've tried to find and old post

I'd also be interested in this information but beyond MetArt there aren't many who look too interested in taking up bitcoin, probably because you can't lock people into subscriptions

Here are a few things I would like to know. What is the annual global revenue of the online adult entertainment industry? How much of that revenue is bitcoin? How many online adult entertainment providers accept bitcoin payments? Clearly the online adult entertainment industry is fertile ground for bitcoin. Most customers would prefer to pay for these services anonymously rather than have their wives see these payments on their credit card statements, for example. It would be interesting to track the growth of bitcoin in this area and compare it to the overall growth of bitcoin.
