Or we can donate the money to the city's thanksgiving dinners for homeless operation. The key would be to get some press around it - "Bitcoiners raising money for homeless" or "Many thankful for Bitcoin this holiday season"

Exactly and turning BTC to fiat and sending to some homeless operation does not help.

Plus I need BTC and have FIAT I would like to exchange for BTC so that way the BTC donations immediately get spent on Walmart Giftcards to get Thanksgiving supplies for the less fortunate.

Better yet you shouldn't even convert Bitcoin to dollars to buy the dinners. You can use something like Gyft.com and buy a Whole Foods Market gift card and use that gift card to buy the food stuffs.... You can show people that Bitcoin doesn't even have to touch dollars to be used.

What if we coordinate similar efforts in several cities?

Someone in each city can serve as escrow and payment of the donations to the service.

It'll serve as a great charity opportunity and a coordinated effort to publicize Bitcoin...

I'd be interested in helping out.

Sounds good, I need to plan this out before tomorrow in order to start raising money across the internet.

Will the money be benefiting families in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area only or also elsewhere around the US?

Unfortunately I'm only helping those in the city in which I live. I wish I could help all of the families in need but scaling that would take a lot more power/Btc

I don't have enough BTC to feel comfortable getting involved with any charity stuff just yet. Once I have my required stack to start spending, I will start donating often. I don't even buy anything, only buy and hold. Sorry but thats how it goes for now for me.

One would need a trustworthy escrow for this to go ahead and someone trustworthy to spend the coins... A local escrow would be the best of both worlds. Otherwise I don't think this great idea will go ahead.

That is a beautiful idea. This is a nice post to end my day on BitcoinTalk with before I log out, so thanks so much for making my day.

We must all give thanks to the creators of Bitcoin for they have changed this world as it spins..

I would like to see if anyone is interested in teaming up (Tampa bay / St.Petersburg Florida) to fund families in less fortunate situations to have nice Thanksgiving dinners.

The Wallet is public record and video / photographic proof of ALL funds being spent and delivered to the needy will be posted.

I also have a friend who would like to make a short documentary how "Bitcoinists" can fund the less fortunate with their revenue from Bitcoin.

PLEASE SHARE ANY AND ALL IDEAS!

Cyber Donate would be the name of the fund.. If all is a go I need to register as a non-profit in Florida, unless its just going to help fund less than 20 families Thanksgiving dinner.

POST BTC / LTC address for donations (to those pitching great ideas and support)
