It will be the coolest present your friend has received. When he started his journey to know Bitcoin, he immediately got $200 worth of Bitcoin Shards which he never imagined before. If I were your friend, I'd keep it until it's over $200. I will use the money to treat you as a sign of gratitude for the special gift you have given me.
as much as gifting someone Bitcoin is a good idea, not everyone would appreciate it, some persons would prefer you give them Fiat even it means sharing the equivalent into 2, so when you want to gift anyone or anything ensure the benefactor knows duly what they're receiving. Even if it means you taking your time to lecture them on it and be sure of their interest and desire too.
I agree with you totally and if Op still want to gift his friend Bitcoin worth of $200, he should first of all ensure that he teaches his friend about bitcoin and also show his friend how to withdraw his bitcoin to fiat.
Don't try to make him believe he must leave the bitcoin for x amount of years before he will reap it. If it is so, they will not enjoy the gift. Just explain everything to your friend and allow him to make decisions himself.

It will be hard that you will gift someone bitcoin now and the person will not appreciate it, most people in urban areas already know about bitcoin, some of them might not be holding bitcoin or they might not know much about bitcoin, but they have heard about bitcoin before and they will want to hold bitcoin, if you gift anyone bitcoin they will really appreciate.

Is it cool to give a friend bitcoin as a gift on his birthday?

In my opinion, yes, it is cool. But this is my opinion -- the opinion of a Bitcoin fan. It's hard to speak in the name of someone else. Yet, since you said that your friend is interested about what you tell him about Bitcoin, such present may be suitable. It is also a way of promoting Bitcoin, of raising more awareness about Bitcoin, even helping people which do not know Bitcoin to learn about it.

Besides, a gift in BTC is not necessarily needed, if you do not have the funds. It can also be something Bitcoin-related. I don't know what amount you had in mind for the gift but, if the amount was too big, you can always try something else, but which is also very interesting: maybe a hardware wallet? Someone receiving a hardware wallet should be interested in using it, in playing with it, therefore this person may become a new Bitcoin user. A physical coin may also be a nice gift. You can find all sort of coins, from those cheap ones from AliExpress to those special ones, more expensive, but totally worth it, such as Casascius, Lealana or Kialara coins. Last, but not least, you can also find other Bitcoin-related articles, from fridge magnets to dices, decks of cards, magazines and so on.

I have a friend who I have been telling about bitcoin for the past 2 weeks now and he's paying more attention to it, on the 1st of March is his birthday party

So what happened in the end? What present did you give him? Was it Bitcoin-related? Smiley

Is it cool to give a friend bitcoin as a gift on his birthday?
I have a friend who I have been telling about bitcoin for the past 2 weeks now and he's paying more attention to it, on the 1st of March is his birthday party I want to surprise him with $200 BTC because I can't attend his birthday party.
So is it apprised to gift a friend bitcoin at his birthday party?
Giving bitcoins as a gift on a birthday is definitely a great idea and your friend will be very happy to receive it even though $200 may not be a huge amount for him but at least your friend can invest the bitcoins you gave him for the long term.
By giving away bitcoins, it means that you have introduced bitcoins and encouraged your friend to adapt to bitcoins so that he will be more interested in learning more information about bitcoins after receiving his first bitcoin from you.

Yes for me is a very nice ideal to gift a friend bitcoin for his/her birthday because most people don’t believe bitcoin is real
So making most people not to invest or use bitcoin as mode of payment or sending money so gifting your friend bitcoin will motivate your friend to make more research about bitcoin and will also spray the good news to others about bitcoin because most people thinks that bitcoin losses value and will make them be in lost but gifting your friend bitcoin will also make understand the value bitcoin and why he/she should use bitcoin as means of investment, sending funds and other things which including payment .
So is good to gift your friend bitcoin it will also be a way to advertise bitcoin to people who thought bitcoin is not safe to use .

I think it's brilliant. Not only you gifted him some amount but also a whole new perspective of investment. Provided you also orient your friend about the important matters of crypto world.
Yeah. It is not about giving someone bitcoin as gift,  what matters is if the person have basic understanding about bitcoin. If the person knows nothing concerning about bitcoin it is important to first to give a basic knowledge about bitcoin before presenting bitcoin as gift. The main purpose of bitcoin is not just acquiring it but to have it and make good value from it. Bitcoin as gift is not a bad idea,  it is also a medium to promote Bitcoin to know what it is like.
The important point is that the recipient of the gift must be equipped with good insight and knowledge about how Bitcoin works. Giving Bitcoin as a friend's birthday gift would be really cool, I really like it too.
The op has only introduced Bitcoin to his friend for about two weeks, it takes extra education to give his friends an understanding of how to buy and sell it. This method can also be adopted by other members who want to introduce Bitcoin to their closest relatives by giving them gifts and then teaching them step by step until they become cash, interest in bitcoin will grow after they hold cash from selling Bitcoin.

If ever I have a friend who gifts me bitcoin on any of my special days, I am so going to be all over the moon. It seems like the perfect gift. Of course, it would be sent to the cold wallet address of my friend so as for him not to lose his coins. Because remember, not my keys, not my coins. In addition to gifting bitcoin to my friend, I would pay for him to visit the bitcoin museum. That would give them a proper feel for what bitcoin is and how important it is to me. No matter how small, I encourage this act. It is one of the easiest ways to propagate its adoption.
Bitcoin is a very important gift to any trader out there, especially gifted when it's bull season, it results in gigantic profits. Bitcoin is the current digital age for our present time, we all should be able to embrace it and understand how it works entirely. Special moments are meant for memorable gifts, I would be so grateful if I'm gifted some pieces of bitcoin on my birthday coming up, I will store that event in memory.

I once did that, for her wedding gift. Perhaps this is different from the OP, I gave it to the person who has introduced Bitcoin to me. So this became a thank you to me during the special event. The details I don't know, what he did with the little Bitcoin I gave.
But he thanked me and took a photo with me with the words Bitcoin and the Bitcoin emblem. Perhaps for those who don't understand, gifts are one way of introducing Bitcoin. But you have to have a note, you have to teach him so that he understands how it works.
Your idea is a very good one, atleast the person you are gifting the bitcoin knows about bitcoin because she thought you about bitcoin, so am very sure she will know the appropriate thing to do with the bitcoin and she will know how she will protect the bitcoin and am sure she will really appreciate it because she knows the worth. But you gifting someone that those not really know anything about bitcoin is not a really good idea, you should make sure you explain everything about bitcoin to him/her first before gifting the person bitcoin.

Seriously it's a nice idea, but my question is those his friend knows anything about bitcoin or cryptocurrency in general? If his friend those not know anything, then he should enlighten his friend first about bitcoin and wallet security so that he won't endup losing the bitcoin. We all know scammers are everywhere, he should make sure his friend knows how to secure his wallet and store his private key. He should also advise his friend to hold the bitcoin for long term, he shouldn't sell it now so that he won't endup selling immediately he hands over the wallet details to him.

It's a good idea to teach your friend all about security first, and only then should buy bitcoin. I kept crypto on the exchange for a long time, until my uncle gave me a ledger and explained all the risks. Before that, I didn’t even know that he was dealing with bitcoin, it was unexpected, but now I have someone to talk to about this.

There's nothing as satisfying with fully confident that one's portfolio is stock with countless coins. Bitcoin is very important in the market because of its high volatility and it also affects altcoins during it's dump and bull run up. Gifting a friend with bitcoin is probation one of the best thing you can do for that person, but the big question is, does your friend have an idea what bitcoin is all about or cryptocurrency?
If not, he or she should be probably enlightened on what Bitcoin is and how it operates, with full confidence that it will bring gigantic profits in the nearest future since it's a promising project.

OP, I agree that it's important for your friend to understand the potential value of holding onto bitcoin in the long term. It's easy to get caught up in short-term price movements and make impulsive decisions, but patience can be rewarding in this world. Hopefully, your friend will take the time to learn more about bitcoin and make informed decisions about when to buy, hold, or sell.

Make sure your friend has a Bitcoin wallet or knows how to set one up. Without a wallet, your friend won't be able to access or use the Bitcoin you gift him.

Without a wallet, he wouldn't even be able to gift Bitcoin to his friend. Even a paper wallet is still a wallet.  Wink

You could but do that and no need to announce a lot eith your friends especially if its big amount. Maybe your friend doesnt know about bitcoin stuff and might be take advantage by your common friends. Anyway thats just precautions, also you could use third party for that. I remember Ive tried once gifting crypto using binance and it works with code to verify the claiming of gifts.

So is it apprised to gift a friend bitcoin at his birthday party?

Yes, it can be a cool and unique gift to give your friend Bitcoin on his birthday, especially if he has shown an interest in it. However, there are a few things to consider before gifting Bitcoin:

Make sure your friend has a Bitcoin wallet or knows how to set one up. Without a wallet, your friend won't be able to access or use the Bitcoin you gift him.

Consider the current price of Bitcoin. Bitcoin is a volatile asset, and its price can fluctuate rapidly. You don't want to gift your friend an amount that could potentially lose a significant amount of value shortly after the gift is given.

Make sure your friend understands the risks and potential benefits of owning Bitcoin. It's important to educate your friend about the basics of Bitcoin and the potential risks involved, such as the volatility of its price and the lack of regulation in the cryptocurrency market.

Consider the tax implications. Depending on where you and your friend live, there may be tax implications for gifting Bitcoin. It's a good idea to consult with a tax professional before making any gifts of cryptocurrency.

Overall, gifting Bitcoin can be a cool and unique gift idea for a friend who has shown an interest in cryptocurrency. Just make sure to consider the above factors before making your gift.

Giving a friend $200 worth of bitcoin as a birthday present is a great idea. Due to the fact that he will be holding bitcoin for the first time in his portfolio, he will sort of appreciate it and value it.

I hope your friend's interest in bitcoin will make him understand what the amount of bitcoin you are sending to him will turn out to be in the future. He shouldn't rush to sell it before the bull run begins in order to fix his financial problems because newcomers rush to sell their bitcoin when its price drops.

It is your choice to give him whatever you feel as a gift, after all bitcoin is money that can be given ad gift. Like you said before now you have  introduced Bitcoin to him, with the introduction given to him I believe he can be able to use bitcoin or make it to appropriate. It is a nice gift, doing this you are also promoting bitcoin. I think this will be the beginning of your friend bitcoin journey which can never be forgotten by him. If this is what you feel like given him as a gift it is not bad.

Given a friend bitcoin who don't have a deep knowledge about is just like pouring water at the back of dock fowl. Why because he might not found Worthy since he have no or little knowledge about the whole concept, it's advisable to gift him what he finds valuable than giving him a bitcoin all less otherwise found proven that he's now routed into the bitcoin community and having great interest in holding bitcoin before you could gift him or her some fractions of bitcoin. Nevertheless, there's nothing wrong gift a bitcoin to someone but it should be to someone who knows the importance.
Lol. Your write up kinda made me smile and that's because I do relate very well about what you are trying to say. And yes you can't actually give something to someone who doesn't know the value of that thing he or she is given. I think the friend of the OP actually has little experience with bitcoin, before ever the OP started planning as presenting bitcoin as a gift. If not it will be imperative that he or she actually knows the basic interest of bitcoin and how it can be beneficial to him before he or she will actually see value to the gift given to him.

Well there is nothing much to laugh over it because I am actually saying the truth. There different between interest and get routed into something, routed sometimes could likely termed to be addict. However op was only doing that just to present it as a gift mainwhile I was foreseeing the other part of it not the other way round, though is a good initiatives by op.

Yes if your friend knows about bitcoin and the important of it bitcoin, and it will be a very huge surprise to him and the best birthday gift ever,
But is a No if he knows nothing about bitcoin because is going to be of no use to him.but just as you said, that you have been telling your friend about bitcoin for a while now and you said he also shown some interest in it, it will be nice you gift him the bitcoin,  but while gifting him, hope you did well to show how to create a wallet, receive bitcoin and how to secure his wallet and coins properly and avoiding the use of private exchanges (centralized) and hope you also taught him the importance of securing his seed phrase as there is a popular crypto saying that  "not your key not your coin

It could probably become the best birthday present that he will receive, considering its future potential but be sure to include a USB where it houses everything he wants to know about Bitcoin, like its history, its potential how to secure it, and trivia about Bitcoin.
You don't want your friend to be ignorant of how Bitcoin works you should awaken his curiosity on Bitcoin by your present.

This is the first time I heard of a friend receiving bitcoin as a birthday present. Gifting your friend bitcoin on its birthday is a cool idea. Your friend also listened when you introduced him to bitcoin, as you stated. Therefore, your friend ought to be able to learn how to safeguard bitcoin and its potential increase in value in the future. He can store it in a cold wallet or if your friend wants to learn how to trade, the gift could be a great capital to start. Be sure to only trade on the spot and steer clear of multipliers.

Here's an idea - you could 3D print a Bitcoin "coin," something like this, and engrave the wallet's private key with your dedication message on the back of it.

And of course, explain to him how to use it and that he should not share that coin around.  Grin Or he could just transfer it to another wallet once he "opens up" his gift, you could help him out set everything up.

In my opinion, that is a great idea. If I will be asked if I want to receive something like that as a birthday presentation, I’ll gladly accept it.
This will not only act as a gift to him but also will encourage him to explore bitcoin a little bit further since he will be extending efforts on how he can use the $200 bitcoin you gave him.
This is a cool present perhaps.

Doing anything with Bitcoin is a smart thought and commendable thing to do
You want to gift $200 to your friend as his birthday gift and you told your friend that you told him about Bitcoin just two weeks ago and you won't be at his birthday party so how do you send him Bitcoin.  Because I suspect that since your friend only learned about Bitcoin two weeks ago, your friend doesn't have a Bitcoin wallet.

I think it's not just a friend but a special person for you, I'm just guessing.
A good step is not only to introduce cryptocurrency but also to reward it in the form of Bitcoin.
I think it will make him more interested in getting to know and learn about Crypto better.
But you also have to always accompany him and be a mentor to use your gift properly and correctly.

Yes, he will appreciate you for the BTC gift than any other gifts since he is used to BTC and he understand BTC very well and he know what BTC can do to humanity. $200 BTC will make he  to understand that you really love him from your whole heart because, that amount of money you really budget to surprise him will surely make others people that will attend the birthday party to find in love with him.

In order to give bitcoin to a friend for his birthday, it is necessary that he has a bitcoin wallet. But as I understand it, it does not have one yet. Of course, you can register a wallet yourself and put BTC there, and then pass him the seed phrase. But in this case, he will not be the only owner of this seed phrase. So you need to help your friend register a wallet in advance, and replenish it by the birthday.

Yes, it's not a bad idea to give a friend bitcoin as a birthday present, In fact, I believe it's a good idea because it will make him feel special, educate him and many people who attend the party to know how valuable is bitcoin,it will show him how much you love him and help cement your friendship, I wish more people could receive bitcoin as birthday presents because that would be so cool.

Sounds so good, you don't need to tell him about it, let your gift be a surprise for him. Your friend must be very happy after seeing his wallet filled with a number of Bitcoins from a mysterious sender.
For someone who has just learned to use Bitcoins in the last two weeks, will definitely tell you about this, let this be a lovely gift for him. When the time is right, you can tell him the source of the Bitcoin that went into his wallet by attaching a proof of delivery to him.

Giving a friend bitcoin its the best gift so far he is into crypto and knows the value of it but if not giving him another gift will be well appreciated.

So if you just told your friend about Bitcoin two weeks ago, I don't think you need to immediately give him a gift in the form of Bitcoin even if it's only $200. Because the better gift for your friend right now is to tell him about how to get Bitcoins so he can use that knowledge all year round for himself. Even though what you want to give is also not wrong as long as you have thought about it more thoroughly.
2 weeks is enough time for some people to learn the basics, it just depends on how fast his friend is in grabbing things. The gift will be there while he embarks on his journey of bitcoin knowledge and once done he will decide on how to utilize the $200 BTC. Bitcoin is the perfect gift because Bitcoin is the future.

Maybe it would just be cool to the two of you and not necessarily to everyone else at her birthday party at the time, because for that $200 you could buy another fancy item that your friend can use to help her learn about Bitcoins and how to get them and how to store them.

So if you just told your friend about Bitcoin two weeks ago, I don't think you need to immediately give him a gift in the form of Bitcoin even if it's only $200. I think it's a pretty good idea. because it will be a valuable experience for you and your friends. for gifts in their usual form are common and will not leave much of an impression. but rewarding with bitcoins would be a lot of fun.

because if I were in a position as your friend and there was someone who rewarded me bitcoin then of course I would be very grateful and feel happy. because it's not a matter of nominal value but a matter of different experiences. and your friend is lucky because there is a friend who remembers his birthday.
So don't hesitate and do it guys. but make sure your friends are also able to use and store bitcoin wallets properly.

Really? That's around N150k. (I believe you're Nigerian) 🙄. Well, maybe you're one of the few early adopters in Naija sha to gift someone that huge amount. Moving on, since your friend is already showing interest in Bitcoin it will be a perfect time. However, you've to be certain you've drummed wallet security and safety into his head. Otherwise, your action of gifting him that huge amount will be the same as someone pouring water on a rock in futility. Wallet hacks are common this day.
Yes it maybe huge amount for some countries but with that gift his friend can start his bitcoin journey. It is a good gesture of appreciation for a friend, and with that gift he opens up the opportunity for his friend to start something potential which will help him in future.

Op is the example of a good friend in this universe.

Gifting a friend or anyone bitcoin for a gift on his or her birthday is same as gifting a person a house, car, fiat money etc, but in the case of bitcoin it should be gifted to someone who have a good idea of what it's all about only then can it be well appreciated and we'll utilize. I'll add by saying educate your friend more well on security, storage and utilities of bitcoin not just gifting him or her without these assistance given.

There is still enough time before the birthday for OP to make sure his friend fully understands the different kinds of wallet, wallet security and how to send and receive bitcoin. It will be pointless if your friend doesn’t know the value of the gift and just sees it as a monetary present to be spent.
I want to surprise him with $200 BTC because I can't attend his birthday party.

I have seen his post in the local board, he’s obviously a Nigerian. The amount also surprised me too given the situation in Nigeria right now, money is tight everywhere.  OP must be a generous person.

The author of the topic is a great person, and by this action he shares the idea of cryptocurrencies. And even if the money can be spent quickly (after all, in Nigeria 200 is three average salaries per month). I advise the author of the topic that you ask a friend to install an Exodus wallet. Even on a smartphone. It is as simple as possible to understand.

Since he's interested already on bitcoin then maybe its a best birthday present to receive since this could inspire him to do more better job on participating on many discussions about crypto. He can also use that $200 for start specially when he want to trade and use this as primary capital for his start up.

For sure your friend will appreciate what effort you do so do what you think is right and for sure no gift is bad especially if you think for betterment of your friend.

If your friends knows how does the bitcoin can be benefited I guess this is very interesting gift but of course you need to know already the bitcoin wallet address of him so you can surprise there's a transaction upcoming with him and leave some note telling him the best wishes for him. If your friend does not have a hardware wallet this price of 200$ you can buy a trezor hardware or a ledger to make your assets more safe.

$200 worth of Bitcoin from a birthday present is good. That's a whole lot off money. You can also advice him not to sell it but he can keep it until the price appreciate. Ensure you also teach him how to keep this asset safe in decentralized wallets and let him learn how to keep his keys and password safe.

Good gift, but how knowledgeable is your friend about Bitcoin?
My question is motivated by the wallet address you will use to send him the Bitcoin.

If your friend is knowledgeable about Bitcoin wallets, keys, and addresses, that is a gift you will give him to motivate him because, as you mentioned, you have been introducing him to Bitcoin, and I am confident he will enjoy it and use it as motivation.

You have done well by gifting your friend a bitcoin, but I don't know if your friend knows anything about bitcoin, also did you gift your friend the bitcoin just to sell and convert to fiat or for him to hold? If you gift him bitcoin and he those not understand anything about bitcoin then it's kind of risky, you have to tell him what bitcoin is all about, why you are gifting him the bitcoin, proper way to secure the bitcoin, appropriate wallet to use in storing the bitcoin and how to secure his wallet and private key. If you don't enlighten him about bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general he might not even know the value of the gift and he might even lose it.

It all goes down if your friend really knows the value of bitcoin. Give your friend what he or she knows. If you will make out time and explain to your friend about bitcoin and make them value it, that is the only way they will value your gift if not the gift may not be appreciated.
$200 can solve some problems to some people, if your friend will not actually value the bitcoin gift, use the $200 and buy something they will really appreciate. The essence of gift is appreciation and not a kind of show off.

Does your friend know bitcoin and know how to make transactions with it. If not, you have to return to giving the sermon for the use of the bitcoin you gave him.

The only reason that prompts you to give him a bitcoin, isn't because you can't make it to his birthday, right? Because if I'm right, you intend to provide an understanding of bitcoin in case of a good investment in the future. If your intention is to give bitcoins and at the same time your friend will ask for help to resell the bitcoins, here you fail to provide an understanding of bitcoins to your friends in my opinion.

it can be a thoughtful and unique gesture, but it's important to ensure that your friend is prepared to handle it responsibly since he just heard bitcoin for 2 weeks from one friend. You could consider including some educational resources or links to reputable sources where he can learn more about bitcoin.
Additionally, it's important to consider the current market value of bitcoin and how it may fluctuate in the future. If you're giving your friend $200 worth of bitcoin today, the value may increase or decrease significantly by the time they decide to sell it or use it to make purchases.

OP I’d like to have you as a friend lol, you give a guy $200 which is a lot of money in Nigeria btw I wonder what you would give your girlfriend. My opinion has not changed since the last time this question was asked. Gifting bitcoin to someone who doesn’t understand it may not be the best birthday gift, in your case since you have been talking to this person about bitcoin this gesture will definitely trigger more interest into bitcoin. Does your friend have a bitcoin wallet or are you gifting him a ledger with the bitcoin inside?

Educating someone who is new to bitcoin or not at all can do it in various ways, one of which is with this bitcoin prize.

-snip-
What if he is not experienced enough not to lose his private key or seed phrase? Imagine how stressful can it be to lose your present because of not understanding how to deal with it.
As a good friend and care about the gift that will be given, then provide some education that will lead to the correct use as well as some things that are prohibited from doing.
This will provide very useful education for beginners with bitcoin prizes that will be received.

What if he is not planning to invest at the moment? Is there enough places to spend bitcoin directly around? Or has he to exchange them first? Will he be satisfied with an additional difficulty with a present?
One of the goals of giving bitcoin gifts is to invite them to invest in bitcoin, because the prizes are in the form of bitcoins that may be given with a hardware wallet or just a barcode code private key etc.
I'm sure there won't be any difficulties as long as there are clear tutorials for use and education.

What if he would prefer to get a more personal gift? If money is okay as a present for him then okay. But if it will be the first time for money gift may be it is not a good idea.
IMO some small amount of bitcoins can be a little addition to the gift just for curiosity, but main gift usually should be of smth else.
Adding with other prizes is a good idea, so it's not just bitcoin as the main prize.

it'll be a good gift if he knows how to use it but if not or if he only knows so little about bitcoin, the gift you gave could just become a hassle for him. I agree with jackg that you could give him another gift along with the bitcoin you are going to gift him. if you are worried about spending more money, you can just cut the amount you are going to give him in bitcoin and use the remaining amount to buy another gift.

Okay, do you want to gift him a present in the form of bitcoin cause you won’t be able to attend his birthday or you’re gifting him bitcoins to increase his interest in it?
Generally, if you give someone who does not know what bitcoin is, it’s value and worth, the person won’t value it. But you mentioned your friend has some interest already in bitcoin so I guess it’s worth gifting him bitcoins. Has his interest level reached the point that he has a wallet and knows the basics already?

Personally, I don’t see the reason for this thread. You can actually gift your friend anything you want to. He’s your friend and you should know what’s best to get him.

That would be an exciting gift, but as you said, he doesn't know about bitcoin, and you can't attend his birthday; How will you give him bitcoins?
You have 12 days to prepare a wallet to store bitcoins for him, and he needs to know how to use it and safely store it before you transfer the bitcoins to him. If you have decided to give him bitcoins, you need to do it immediately.

I believe he will be surprised, and he will be even more grateful to you if he becomes a bitcoin investor like you in the future because bitcoin offers him rich opportunities.

There have been several people on the forum who have done this before. As long as your friend knows about bitcoin, it will definitely be the most unique and meaningful gift he gets on his birthday. But if he doesn't know about it, then you need to spend more time teaching him about bitcoin, and he will be glad a little late to understand it.

Always good when there are new or more Bitcoiners, so feel free to give BTC as a gift away. Maybe also direct with a hardware wallet, but that might be too much. For someone who doesn't know, look out a few good YouTube videos and give them a good warning, that he not believe everything. I wouldn't give away an external paperwallet, it can be manipulated with criminal energy. So if someone wants to own Bitcoin, he should have some time and inform himself. Say him „Be your own Bank“.

Op getting your friend bitcoin as a birthday gift is cool provided that your friend knows a few things about how bitcoin investment is all about otherwise it would be better to educate the person more on bitcoin and its importance and you can do that by introducing them to the community here where lots of cryptocurrency information is shared freely then when the person has gotten the required knowledge, you can then buy bitcoin for such one but if gifting him or her will be a better option then go ahead is a good idea but ensure you inform him that bitcoin investment is not quick money giving scheme.

Of course, bitcoins as a birthday present is a great and beautiful thing. I've often given bitcoin as a birthday gift and people were always happy about it. I have even given them away at a wedding and the couple who received them kept the bitcoins for a very long time and only sold them last year. As a result, they received a lot of fiat money and were able to fulfill one or the other dream.

Therefore, in my opinion, bitcoins are always a great gift and suddenly people who have had nothing to do with bitcoins are suddenly interested in them.  Wink

Bitcoin is well suited as a gift. Even if your friends are in another city or country, this gift can be delivered in minutes. But of course, if the recipient knows how to use it.

jackg correctly noted in this regard and consider these important nuances:
You might want to do it discretely and get him another present too but I think it's a good idea provided he knows how to use it or you give him clear instructions (including virus scanning any software he imports it too and writes down his mnemonic - for wallets like electrum or backup the wallet file for ones that don't give a mnemonic)...

I heard that Steve Wozniak and Keanu Reeves received bitcoin as a gift from their friends. Can't tell if it's birthday related or not, but as you can see, you're not the first to use bitcoin in this capacity. According to them, they have since kept bitcoin, essentially being holders. Let them serve as an example for you. So, don't be shy - act. I'm sure your friend will appreciate it, since he's interested in your telling about bitcoin.

How can I register to become your friend?  Cheesy

A 200$ is always good to send as a gift even if it’s not Bitcoin but since your friend is already interested then it’s 100% cool because it’s his interest. New user will always be happy on new things that they like especially if it send as gift since they are interested on it. I think he will appreciate more if you include hardware wallet on your gift since the amount is already greater than the price of the hardware wallet to make it safe for him since he is just new to crypto.

$200 is a damn high value gift. It's a big money in many countries and for many people.

Surely you can but something you must think
  • $200 is high, are you sure you want to give him a $200 gift?
  • Have you ever known how to use Bitcoin?
  • It's important. If he have never used it, likely after receiving your gift, he will throw it away, ask someone who can steal that bitcoin, or ask you for more tutorial from you. But you are not sure what he will do after he receives it from you.
  • You will likely teach him how to import seed/ key, how to make a transaction, how to sell it on exchanges. Are you ready?

To deliver gift, you

Giftcard trading is risky too but if you deliver giftcard to your friend, tell him that he can sell it on Paxful

If you want something "cooler" maybe you could get him an OpenDime loaded with BTC instead, especially if you think he'll be holding them for some time.

If indeed he is a bitcoin lover of course that's pretty cool as a gift, even though bitcoin is only worth $ 200 of course it will be an investment for him in the long term rather than just giving gifts that he might use temporarily, giving him bitcoin is the same as you teach him to save and I think, as a bitcoin lover of course he will be very happy and happy to receive gifts that he might not have expected at all.

That will be great to be honest. But at first your friend should be taught on how to use the Bitcoins. Also if possible try to gift him something which he will appreciate more. Bitcoins can be a good gift, but he might be expecting something more or else from you as a gift. I may also recommend you that gifting these valuable Bitcoins won’t be great, as in future Bitcoins will become more valuable and you will yourself sell these 200$ worth of Bitcoins at 1000$. So gift him something physical worth 200$ and save the Bitcoins for yourself.

That's a great idea. At a time when bitcoin was worth $100, my friend asked me to install a bitcoin wallet on my device. When he came to visit me, he said that he would now give ina 0.01 btc. And he made a transfer from his wallet. So he made a gift, and showed how simple cryptocurrencies are. So I advise you to do the same. You will make a gift and show the process of sending cryptocurrency. That's exactly how another crypto enthusiast will appear.

You might want to do it discretely and get him another present too but I think it's a good idea provided he knows how to use it or you give him clear instructions (including virus scanning any software he imports it too and writes down his mnemonic - for wallets like electrum or backup the wallet file for ones that don't give a mnemonic)...
