Many thanks for that SlidingHorn - I'm still on a pretty steep learning curve so good to have a ''one stop site'' where I can get pointed in the right direction Smiley

Different pools will mine bitcoin and namecoin concurrently.

I use https://bitminter.com/ and that one does it.

Okay - I'm a complete newbie and I have heard of this ASIC stuff quite a few times recently - is it something I can or should be trading in terms of crypto currencies ? John.

ASIC (in this case) is essentially a chip designed specifically for mining SHA-based coins.  Read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application-specific_integrated_circuit

I also never saw it, may be it will be profitable as well, coz of smaller network hash rate. If it is doable, i will by some old bitcoin miner and will run it.

Hey Guys,

Bit coin ASICs do mine Namecoins ? I wanna mostly mine to support this DNS system, not for profit.

Yours Newbie

Namecoins use the same SHA-256 algorithm as Bitcoins do, so I see no reason why ASIC shouldn't mine Namecoins. Never done it myself tho
