part of the development we are envisioning that most countries will accept bitcoin as a form a payment in different sector. one can look way pass the truthfulness of the story but to the fact that the banks can suspend an account due to some reasons, like exceeding the limit of inflow of cash and the account needs to be upgraded or some suspicion of fraudulent activities, and many more. but it is the fact that almost everyone is looking forward to a time when bitcoin can be use for exchange for goods and services. and since it uses a decentralized system, i wouldn't know if there is a limit to bitcoin in ones wallet.

Well I am an Enthusiast of Crypto-currency and a believer that Bitcoin is the climax of all Crypto-coin, but I would not necessarily put it that Bitcoin could save a life, infact if I can paint your picture like this, your friend only has Bitcoin and Crypto-currency and he needs urgent surgery from a hospital that doesn’t accept Crypto-currency or from a country that doesn’t and you friend doesn’t have any form of Fiat only Bitcoin, I think then if his friends do a go fund me in Fiat then you would say Fiat can save a life.

Relating this to real life experience when a friend accidentally hits another car with his car ,causing damages to the person's car and physical bruises to the person ,he was been held captive and asked to repair the damages car he hit and treat the person as well by paying for the hospital bills ,he didnt have any physical cash and even had an empty bank account.after been pressured and threatened with the law enforcement which will make him face the law and spend some time as punishment for his carelessness, he was saved by is crypto account which he had some few balance is his wallet ,he had to convert the crypto into cash to save himself from the menace. The matter was cowled from escalating into a serious one ,when he payed for the car repair and hospital bill, rather than facing the law ,being fined ,still paying for the car damages and the hospital bills .the crypto balance saved him.
that's just a small sample. When your friend doesn't have FIAT in an emergency situation, of course it will be a problem. and then remembered the crypto account he had. But why does he only keep it in crypto, is it for long-term investment or has he not made any disbursement yet.
It's better to have some liquidated into Fiat and some in crypto, so as not to interfere with the investment being made.

As with others, I don't like to doubt your story. Although it's fake but true. A centralized bank would freeze an account at any time if funds come from different suspectable sources. But for Bitcoin never mind wherever you are, you can receive money at any time. No one will ask you ever but should use your non-custodial wallet. That's another fact about receiving Bitcoin. If the story is really true, then thanks for sharing the story, at least Bitcoin saved a life.

A centralised bank can also freeze account if the amount of money that is deposited into the account is higher than the limit  of amount that is supposed to be in that account.  When it happens to be like this account are been freeze.  It is a good news to save the guys life with bitcoin,  the essence of bitcoin is to support the humanity.

Your story is kind of unusual and I find it hard to believe wether it's true or not but I would agree with them that Bitcoin cannot be frozen like banks unless your funds is in a casino where they can hold or freeze your account is possible. Who would be fool enough to use casino as their wallet much the same as use an exchange to store your funds where some of it are non-custodial exchange. Better use your own wallet where you have the keys or seed phrase of the wallet.

The same goes for bitcoins that are stored on exchanges.

There's a possibility that your funds might be frozen by that exchange depending on the activity that you're doing inside their platform. If you're clean and do nothing, that's good.

But knowing that exchange behaviors are changing from time to time, just remember that you don't hold your private keys if they're stored there so it all ends up with the idea, that you don't own your bitcoins there even if it is on your account.

First, this is my first post on this forum, after going through the rules guiding our conduct in this forum I have decided to make an official thread to acknowledge my presence here.
Welcome to the forum but making a thread to show your presence is unnecessary. It is better to say you make this thread because you want to discuss your thinking about Bitcoin and its advantage as you wrote below.

Back to the title of the thread: bitcoin can save a life where ever you are as long as you have it in your wallet

I was in the hospital recently and I witnessed a situation that motivated me to make such a statement, I saw a hart condition patients who was booked for an X-ray scan but hard his bank account freeze because the account was used to raise money to support the medical bills and he has to go to the law enforcement officers to clarify that
A freeze on bank account is not related to his medical bill as I guess. Probably his account was frozen before he went to hospital for whatever reasons.

From this story, you can say "Not your keys, not your coins". Even if you have Bitcoin, but you buy and store it on centralized exchanges with custodial wallet, it is not actually your coin.
Why?
Because centralized exchanges can free your account (same as bank can do) and you might (or might) not successfully to get your account back.

To be safe, you must use non custodial wallet to store your coin.

Bitcoin has been a life saver ,i can relate to the past experiences during the national youth protest against the brutality of the police on youth ,during this protest bank accounts for funding this protest were blocked by the government ,also individual bank account suspected to be part of this were blocked and restricted but bitcoin came to their rescue since the government didnt have power over bitcoin the protest still continued even after the bank  account were blocked,it saved them from unnecessary sanction from the government to carry out impromt and necessary actions ,bitcoin also saves you from unnecessary police extortion.

If health care institutions such as hospitals were to accept cash, the problem that you described would never have taken place. Considering the fact that we are rapidly moving toward becoming a cashless society based on CBDCs, unpleasant situations like this will occur more and more often. People won't be able to transfer money without a bank's permission: therefore, it is banks that will decide what you can spend "your" money on. In particular, you can be denied medical treatment because of your misbehavior, disobedience, misdeeds, wrongthink, or not supporting the current narrative; in short, you will be punished or even doomed to die just because banks consider some of your actions "wrong." Can bitcoin "fix" this? If you find a "canceled-like-you" doctor who would accept bitcoin for their services, then you probably will get your desirable treatment, but it unlikely will be of the same quality as you would have gotten in hospitals that play by the rules imposed by banks.

The message is the central focus for me. Yes bitcoin can't be frozen on a Dapp. One thing with centralized system of financial storage is that it comes with lots of procedures and the strongly hold to it not minding if lives are at risk or endangered. Resolving to using decentralized means of transaction for bulky needs in cases of urgency is somehow the best maybe the process of frozen account and limitations of fund access will be reduced

Bitcoin = Financial freedom
Replace bitcoin with Money so the statement will be justified and don't separate bitcoin from money since it was actually created to use as money but with the story I have a doubt which hospital accept payment in Bitcoin, if there is any please mention so the community will know. I know bitcoin give complete control but imagine when someone hold all their money in bitcoin and become unconscious so how someone can access funds and pay the bills so it is always important to diversify the funds and importantly gold should be given priority as well.

Maybe this is true but ( bitcoin can save your life wherever you are) makes me think and have a doubt cause not all countries accept Bitcoin for payment, so it means that not anytime or anywhere you can used your bitcoins. Maybe your country accepted bitcoin for payments and it's nice to hear that bitcoins save life and for sure if could it happen that all countries accept Bitcoin for payment maybe many life will save.

It may be a great story that has a good and happy ending, but it does not justify the title. That Bitcoin can save your life wherever you are is an overstatement. Bitcoin cannot save your life wherever you are. That's simply an exaggeration.

I think it is well accepted even by the Bitcoin community itself that Bitcoin is not widely accepted as a currency and that you can hardly live a life with Bitcoin as your preferred money.

There's a heavy reason why your friend's bank account freeze maybe because of these; (if your story is true)
  • Linked with suspicious or illegal activities such as Money laundering or terrorist funding.
  • Can freeze for unpaid taxes
  • Unpaid debt to any government services

But I've got your point here, be your own bank and yes, Bitcoin is a great opportunity where you have a full control with your fund but there are some minors consequences that you must to consider.  I don't think your friend will still think to spend his Bitcoin even if we're in the price correction stage which we saw the price of Bitcoin dropped too much.  That's the disadvantage of Bitcoin, the value of the dollar is vulnerable if you convert it into cash.

Aside from whether the story is true or fake, there are some notes:
1. This statement will only realize in a country in which Bitcoin is legal for payment methods. And I wonder in what country do you live that a hospital accepts Bitcoin as payment?
2. This seems like a global problem that someone should pay at first the money for the hospital before getting treatment.
3. If this story is true, it is good enough if Bitcoin can be more global, many more people can accept this as payment. For, in my country, this story will never happen because TC is not legal as a payment method.
4. This story may be true and happen in the future due to the global progress and development of Bitcoin acceptance in each country. And yes excatlyBitcoin will really help us.

Your line of "bitcoin can save your life wherever you are" but this your story doesn't sound convincing enough, it look like a made up story, but the fact that bitcoin can save you wherever you are is absolutely true.

Where fiat currency stops, Bitcoin continues.

It's very impressive to have known Bitcoin saved this guy's life, and kudos to his friends for the massive support.
But actually, I will like to throw more light on how the banking system operates, because just as you know, we have got both "CURRENT" & "SAVINGS" accounts, whereas most savings accounts are restricted to a certain amount of money, whereby if money above the limit enters the account, it will be blocked till the account user comes for an upgrade, which I think was what happened to the money fundraised into the bank account. Which due to this ill health, couldnt get it fixed, unlike Bitcoin which is beyond control by a central authority

Yes, it is an unusual and bizarre example that I do not believe many people can relate to. Despite this, however, one fact is true: unlike your bank account, crypto funds cannot be frozen or seized if they are kept in a private wallet, and no one else has access to your private keys. If you hold crypto, no one, not even the police or any government agency, can freeze your assets.

I feel this story is too bizare.

The patients need an urgent medical treatment and his account got blocked by banks that supposed to pay the medical bills, if I were in this positions (his friends) I would use my personal money and ask the other friends to raise more money. Okay let's say his friends make a donation via Bitcoin, do you think the fundraising can be completed in just a day? I don't think so, it's need a time and you said it's an urgent moment.

Now I don't understand the part why the patient's bank account can be frozen, but the another bank account used to receive Bitcoin sources doesn't get banned. Bank is more strict about Bitcoin activities rather than normal fiat activities.
