One of the many industries being revolutionized by blockchain technology is the video game industry. Steam now accepts Bitcoin for payments, Gamerholic and GameCredits power their game platforms with cryptocurrency, and Spells of Genesis puts trading cards on the blockchain via Counterparty.

Huntercoin takes things a step farther by completely forgoing the use of a central server, making it the first decentralized autonomous video game. The game world is stored on the Huntercoin blockchain, with commands issued to your Hunters via Huntercoin transactions on the P2P network. Players compete for newly-minted HUC dispersed around the map.

Huntercoin is a turn-based game with each turn lasting one minute (the block time). This makes for a chess-like game of cat-and-mouse, which we're going to demonstrate on the big screen for everybody to see first hand. Andrew Wagner will answer any questions, and the whole event will be moderated, livestreamed and recorded by Alex Sterk on BlockTalk. We'll also have 205 free HUC (the cost of a Hunter) for each new player, and the latest copy of the blockchain on SSD.

Although the game is still simple and difficult to run, the Huntercoin team is currently hard at work to fix this. Andrew will discuss the latest efforts and future plans to increase playability, and outline a theoretical model for consensus-based game updates and decentralized modding on a shared ledger.

We haven't been posting all the weekly Meet Ups for the last while, now, because we wanted to avoid bloating the forum. However, the one coming up on Friday with Open Bazaar, the decentralized P2P marketplace with Bitcoin, has FREE PIZZA, so we thought we'd spread the word: http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinvan/events/231028308/

CoinFest Vancouver will once more be holding an awesome party for those who never got to experience CoinFest 2014. We will start by having dinner at India Gate, the world's first Indian restaurant to accept Bitcoin, a historic landmark in the Vancouver Bitcoin scene. Enjoy great food and drinks without the need for pesky Canadian dollars.

After dinner, we're going to bring back the Decentralized Doge Party, an awesome twist on the Decentralized Dance Party for fans of cryptocurrency. If you can't imagine what that's like, watch this video... you absolutely won't regret it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUpW18Exw8g

Unfortunately, the City of Vancouver and its liquor inspectors will have a hissy fit if we do it at India Gate, again (boo, central authorities), so at around 8:30, we're going to clear out of the restaurant and head to another location (to be announced). The DDP will start at 9 PM, and if we get enough sponsorship funding and donations, will turn into a roving flash mob on the streets. Stay tuned!

CoinFest started in 2013 as a relatively small gathering of 100 or so Bitcoiners, celebrating the adoption of Bitcoin at the Waves Coffee House at Smithe and Howe. It was conceived as a way to incentivize cryptocurrency acceptance while educating the public about its importance and use. Its popular success prompted the Bitcoiniacs to place the world’s first Bitcoin ATM there, which we again celebrated.

By 2014, CoinFest was growing in popularity, and that year it took a new direction: CoinFest spread across Canada and now internationally, exemplifying the border-defying and decentralized nature of crypto. Vancouver lead the way again by booking multiple venues simultaneously for a less centrally organized variety of exhibits, as Satoshi would have wanted. In 2015, CoinFest spread worldwide, and new ground was broken in Latin America and Europe.

This year, CoinFest Vancouver will be hosted primarily at 436 West Pender, a local hub for decentralization supporters and fans. It will function as a base of operations for the International Hangout, which coordinates live virtual presentations beamed simultaneously to audiences around the globe. Speakers will include notable thinkers and leaders such as Paul Snow from Factom, Susanne Tempelhof of BitNation, and Chelsea Barabas from MIT Media Labs Digital Currency Initiative, who will air in the afternoon.

The Hangout will be over at around 4 PM, after which we'll be focused on local activities. There will be booths and demonstrations of things like mining hardware and other decentralized tech (to be announced). There will also be the Decentralized Arcade, which features decentralized games with prizes such as Huntercoin and Gamerholic's Grabbit, and an afterparty in the evening.

Come one, come all! The Bitcoin Co-op is holding its Annual General Meeting on February 17 at Decentral Vancouver. We're looking for new members to join our organization and help raise Bitcoin adoption and awareness in British Columbia. At the meeting, we'll be electing our 2016 board of directors and discussing projects and priorities for the year.

All good-standing members of the co-operative are eligible to attend, run in the election, and vote for their peers. To join us, you can register for membership today by filling out the following form and paying a one-time fee of $20 (in Bitcoin), which gives you a lifetime ownership stake in the organization: http://bitcoincoop.org/membership

The Bitcoin Co-op was formed in 2012 by attendees of the Vancouver Bitcoin Meetup group with the intention of providing the community with an inclusive, legally-recognized organization that can be used to collaborate under. The Co-op is member-owned and member-operated; all our members have an equal stake and are encouraged to work together to define and realize our shared goals. Many of our members have gone on to found successful companies and projects related to Bitcoin and are recognized for their contributions to the community.

Is this thread abandoned? do you guys still hold meetups in Vancouver? will be visiting next week.
The Vancouver scene is still quite active, but lately, almost all of the Meet Ups are being held at the Decentral Vancouver hangout spot at Richards and Pender. Since they occur at regular times, people basically just started showing up unannounced, and threads like this became less necessary. If you Google-search "Decentral Vancouver," you find their address and how to get there real quick

Gaming has its roots in tech culture, so you'd think the industry would be leading the Bitcoin crusade. Sadly, this has not been the case, with no worthwhile development houses choosing to adopt it in any way.

Cryptocurrency's utility as a fundraising mechanism has brought in many smaller companies, however, who have chosen to adopt Bitcoin for payment or even launched their own coins. Now some are actively experimenting with true blockchain integration.

Andrew Wagner has started a series on this new gaming genre, and is going to introduce the subject. Then we'll beam in some developers of actual blockchain-based titles for Q&A, and then finally get to playing some games!

The blockchain has many applications besides sending and receiving money. One of the first additional functions to be explored was fundraising; it is relatively easy to request bitcoins, as a donation or with the promise of some future return.

New cryptocurrencies, however, have allowed us to automate the process. Backing a coin with equity (like a stock) is complicated due to securities laws, but many have already designed coins backed by goods or services for which they can be redeemed.

All decentralized applications (like Storj or MAIDSafe) are essentially service providers, with their service being provided in exchange for their associated crypto coin. By releasing the tokens before the application, they effectively pre-sell those services as a way to raise development funds.

This has become a revolutionary new crowdselling and fundraising method, on which all decentralized applications will probably rely. We're beaming in some experts on the topic to discuss their experience with crypto crowdsales, including:

Synereo, the first truly decentralized social media platform. Better than Facebook in every way, they're currently crowselling the AMP tokens needed to promote content (as opposed to paying Facebook).

Factom, a decentralized proof of existence application. They're crowdselling Factoid tokens which can be used to permanently record any data on virtually any blockchain.

We have an interesting treat for you guys: Liberty in North Korea--a non-profit dedicated to bringing refugees out of the country and helping them adjust--is coming here to Vancouver, and looking to board the Bitcoin bandwagon.

Their outreach team will present the truth about life in North Korea (and how we can help) at an event at Decentral Vancouver on March 25. On March 27, India Gate (which accepts Bitcoin, of course) will give 30% of sales to the cause, and we will have drinks to celebrate. Join us if you're in town!

The Bitcoin Co-op is advising them on how best to achieve full Bitcoin integration, but for now they can process donations via Coinbase, and we are collecting them at 1NSDVqDHphybE7WKj7qbEinCfvb7mFj6qV.

We've made some changes for 2015, including our weekly Co-op meetings. They will now occur every two weeks, and to support the Bitcoin economy, will occur at a different Bitcoin venue each time. New and old members of the community can learn and trade ideas about decentralization, and get updates about the Bitcoin Co-op community.

The first meeting of the year will occur at India Gate, being our first Bitcoin venue from 2013. While these meetings will remain open to the public, the Co-op is going to roll out multisig, new partners and announcements, and an official membership registration process. RSVP to come and learn all of the full details!

Greetings, Bitcoin community! Now that our Cooperative is hosting in excess of 4-5 events per month--plus another event that repeats on a weekly basis--we have decided it would be spammy and impractical to start a new thread for every single one. From now on, each new Meet Up event will be announced here, in a new post. We may announce the repeating event once a month, or so, but not every week, since its schedule is predictable, anyways. Now, without further ado, here are two events:

Bollywood Night will be an opportunity to watch a Bollywood movie for free, while dining on fine Indian cuisine all paid for in Bitcoin! (http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinvan/events/133323022/) In fact, India Gate was the first Indian restaurant in the whole world to accept BTC! One interesting thing to note is that this is a joint event: two other, non-Bitcoin Meet Ups with whom we are affiliated will be attending. This means we have to be on our best behavior when it comes to selling bitcoins and paraphernalia (other Meet Ups don't like salesmen), but gives us the opportunity to mingle with non-Bitcoiners and spread the word in a friendly environment. This will occur Saturday, August 10 starting at 8 PM. Address: 616 Robson Street.

Next up, on Sunday, it's Bitcoin Yoga Sundays! (http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinvan/events/133882272/) As you might surmise, this occurs every Sunday. It starts at 9 AM, but you must be 10 minutes early. Class ends at 10 AM. It occurs on the grassy area in-between Kitsilano Pool and Kitsilano Yacht Club. The owners of Pacific Bliss are extremely passionate about Bitcoin--they were the first business in Western Canada to adopt--and you get 66% off if you pay with BTC! This event has an RSVP cap and requires pre-registration.

For up-to-date information on the Bitcoin movement in Vancouver, you can always check our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/bitcoincoop. A full list of merchants can be found on our website (http://vanbtc.ca/merchants), but much of the information is not up-to-do date, and it is still undergoing renovations. Our Facebook is newer, anyways, and businesses deciding whether or not to accept Bitcoin check its traffic levels to confirm that there is a customer base. Wink

Hi, I am a 17 years old accountancy student from the Netherlands and I am very interested in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Litecoin and go on. On the 15th, 16th and 17th of May the Bitcoin Conference will be held in the city where I live, Amsterdam. Many successful CEO’s from all over the world (Coinbase, BTCChina, Bitcoin Foundation, Overstock, Bitpay, Kraken, Coinlab, Mastercoin etc.) will be present as speakers at this event. I really would like to go to but unfortunately my wallet won’t let me. There is a big discount for students, but I still do not have the money for a ticket. Hereby I am asking you whales just to donate a little amount of bitcoin, so I won’t miss this big event.
I would really appreciate it.

The Bitcoin Co-op meetings are now open to the public! Here we gather to discuss our goals, how to achieve them, and the general state of cryptocurrency.  New members (for now, anyone can join) and guests introduce themselves, their projects and ambitions, and the directors will proceed to present new ideas for everyone to debate.

For now, these meetings occur at the QuadrigaCX exchange headquarters, but this may change if and when attendance grows. Being the first open meeting, areas of focus will include ideal meeting structure, day and time. As a voluntary association of individuals, the Cooperative attempts to form consensus and values the input of all members, and hope you'll join us!

For more information, see our website at www.bitcoincoop.org. You can also RSVP on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/1478690092349095/, or G+ at https://plus.google.com/b/107368230395218815049/events/c6ges3gfhg1d1bn0l6srfm8trno

Last time we got organic honey with crypto, and we're hoping to spread adoption through the marketplace even further. Come help us out!

Bitcoin has been moving up in the world, and Bitcoin Networking Time along with it. In case you weren't aware, Francesco's is accepting Bitcoin using the Co-op's POS system! "Vancouver's Finest Italian Restaurant" has won multiple awards, including Zagat, Who's Who and Best Bite for the last 5 years in a row. That makes it the perfect place for job-seekers to meet successful entrepreneurs interested in Bitcoin, and for employers to meet professionals with experience in the field. Feel free to stop by with samples or information about goods or services you buy or sell for cryptocurrency.

Those of you without enough satoshis may still order using cash, debit or credit, but the topic of today will definitely be Bitcoin! Do you have any bitcoins? How did you make them? What do you like about Bitcoin, and how far do you see bitcoins spreading further down the road? We can discuss ideas for the future, for both our Meet Up and the currency revolution, and the tech-savvy can share their projects and thoughts. Even if you're new to Bitcoin, you can have a lot of fun meeting all kinds of new people!

There will be a gratuity (tip) of 18% added to your bill automatically, so to tip extra or not is up to you. As usual, you must be at least 19 years old or older to attend. Please remember that you need two valid pieces of identification, and that at least one of your IDs must show your photo. For more information or the hosts phone number, RSVP for this event on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/618081191592675/

The Vera's Burger Shack on Main Street has begun accepting Bitcoin using the Bitcoin Cooperative's open source POS system. It is the first venue on Main Street to accept Bitcoin, and the first of its kind. The higher-ups at corporate are watching to see how much publicity and business their decision brings, and if all goes according to plan, soon Canada will have the first burger chain to accept Bitcoin! Waves has yet to fully accept Bitcoin at all locations, so it could become the first franchise, period.

With that in mind, we're going to have our first Meet Up at Vera's Burger Shack! Here we can enjoy the kind of food North Americans are known for: fattening and delicious burgers, fries, poutine, fried foods of all kinds, and beer to go with it! They will do pints for $4.25 and burger-pint combos for $10 (or equivalent BTC). This event will also be posted to Facebook, but you must RSVP on Meet Up to be guaranteed a seat. Otherwise, you will have to stand or get take-out.

Coinwaves is another physical Bitcoin store, one of three now in Vancouver. They had been operating on LocalBitcoins for some time, and have recently set up shop in Gastown! As you might expect, they take pride in educating people who visit, and are now trying to get the word out about themselves to the community.

To that end, the Bitcoin Cooperative and the Simon Fraiser Bitcoin Club are going to help organize Coinwaves' Bitcoin for Good charity event! A few Co-op members will give short talks, and there will be a hands-on demonstration of Bitcoin mining! Wine and beer will be available in return for BTC using the Co-op's POS system, and there will be another live Bitcoin fundraiser! 100% of the proceeds will go to funding medical care for people in less-developed parts of the world.

The Wilder Snail is a popular local grocery store and cafe in Strathcona, and the first grocery store in Vancouver to accept Bitcoin using the Co-op's POS system. The owner, Boyd Thomson, is passionate about environmental and other causes, and the Snail has a quirky kind of charm that keeps people coming back. There are seats with pedal-powered outlets, aisles full of organic and fair-trade products, and a 25-cent fee for biodegradable coffee cops. Come check it out.

Living on bitcoins just got a whole lot easier. We're going to browse Boyd's fine selection of produce and other groceries, and mingle and talk about the implications of Bitcoin for grocery shopping. The Wilder Snail also contains a cafe, with a renowned selection of pastries/snacks and beverages that are also available in return for bitcoins! The cafe inside only has 18 seats, however, so seating is reserved for those who purchase something from the cafe. If it gets very crowded, please try not to block the grocery aisles and consider taking your conversation outside, where there are more seats.

On the contrary: CoinFest is completely free, and we give away a beer's worth of BTC to anybody who has never had a wallet, before. We have not copywritten CoinFest, although I do own the domain names. Very soon I will make an announcement regarding the reasoning behind this. You are encouraged to Meet Up for Bitcoin-exclusive discounts throughout the day, but the final event will be held at Pop Opera, the first night club to take Bitcoin! One of the bars inside will be permanently fitted to accept bitcoins using the Co-op's merchant POS system, and--just for this occasion--you will get 1/3 of your cover price ($15 fiat) for paying in Bitcoin. Participating Meet Up organizers will occasionally offer free drinks at their discretion, as is customary.

We're trying something new, this week. Bitcoin nightclubs! We were able to arrange for entrance to be payable in Bitcoin, but we can't push too hard for the bar inside to accept without some guarantee that Bitcoiners are interested. This event will function as a test to gauge Bitcoiner interest in clubbing: http://www.meetup.com/bitcoinvan/events/134324172/

Date: Saturday, August 17
Starting time: 10:00 PM
Place: Gossip Nightclub, 750 Pacific Boulevard

Everyone gets a discount and free drink(s). I will take an extra couple bucks off if you pay in BTC. I didn't post that on Meet Up because they might be watching Meet Up, and I'm forbidden to do that. Wink

I lived in vancouver for about 12 years up until 2003 when i moved to victoria, but as I remember ANZA club was always amenable to grass-roots type of causes and organizations such as the bitcoin meet-up group. I went to many many fundraisers and charity events there, and I believe they have a very reasonable rental, door/bar split deal for the larger upstairs ballroom. the downstairs club would be good for smaller groups. you should look into it. its right near main and broadway, the heart of mount pleasant!

as for now i continue to try and promote btc here on the island, but people here are an odd combination of ignorant, arrogant, and obstinate. The anarchist bookstore wanted to hear NOTHING about it (!) when I approached them (go figure). It's like the people here think they are too smart to be open to any sort of idea that might be new to them. Victoria can be a real hick-town backwater. I'm having slightly better luck with some of the larger artist-run centres here...i will post any developments when and if they come!

Wink
