The current database is about 45 GB. It continues to grow by approximately 86 MB per day.
That's a huge amount. Isn't that going to be a problem for people running nodes in lets say 2-3 years?
I wouldn't consider running 3 nodes from the same home machine much more beneficial than running one instead. Decentralization-wise, those nodes will be using the same IP. And in terms of efficiency, hard drive space wouldn't be the only issue since the nodes also suck up bandwidth to establish connections and transfer data. The idea of compressing/prunning block data has been around for quite some time though, we might see it being worked on in the not so distant future.
