Good alternative is the BitPay Card. https://bitpay.com/card It's a US dollar service, but it allows you to use it outside the US as well.

Every conversion will cost you 3% of the total transaction value. It's quite steep if you ask me, but in case you really need it, it will work. That's the most important thing.

Maybe that you can ask people from Japan if they know such a service exists or not. Here is their local thread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/japanese-877

Hi guys, has anyone heard about bitcoin debit card which is denominated in JPY?
If no, is there any reason why noone has introduced card like that?

There are none as far as I know but I don't see a problem here , I mean the bitcoin card usually do the conversion to your local currency and If It's not done yet because there is no enough demand and most of the people use EUR , USD and GBP mostly.

The problem is that when you pay in different currency there is a big FX impact (fees are bigger than 3%) therefore for a longer time it doesn't look that good if you compare it to the USD/EUR bitcoin cards.

I guess it must be really hard to do that in Japan since noone has done that before.

Lol. Japan has done much greater things in their history(cars, electronics, consoles games to name a few) and I am sure they are able to create such card. The problem is that they don't think it's worth it for the moment and that's why such card doesn't exist yet.

I'm sure that such card would have been launched as soon as there are enough demand for it.
However, I heard that a lot of merchants in Japan started to accept bitcoin payments in 2016. So maybe Japan will go further and fully adopting Bitcoin without using Bicoin Debit Card solutions?

you can use bitcoin debit card in denominated USD
after youre top up use bitcoin, you can take money in ATM in youre county, you can receive money not USD but JPY, automatic convertion to JPY

That's true, however you will lose money due to fees.

OP, the reason why no one has opened a debit card for Japan is that there is not much demand right now. What do you want to buy with the debit cards? You might be able to find a workaround by buying specific gift cards instead.

Yeah, bitcoin debit card is just like any regular credit card you can use it anywhere and with any ATM, they just convert bitcoin into your local currency, the only bad thing about these kind of cards is they charge a large amount of money when using it in other countries, and a monthly fee, so I recommend using local bitcoin and just get the money sent to you directly by a local who is willing to buy.

Most of the bitcoin debit card providers are just retailers of wavecrest (which is usd based) so they can't deliver JPY based bitcoin debit card. And to start own payment solution company there is lots of legal procedures as well as lots of investment is required, and to make JPY based debit card it also have to get license for financial transactions from japanese government which is the hardest part.
