I enjoy going checking out freshly started topics there from time to time. The problem is they tend to attract a lot of shit very quickly; if the topic is decent you might get 2 pages worth reading out of it.

For a while when I'm in there I report topics to be locked, generally anything over 10 pages if the last 2 pages are just repetitive, and still quoting the OP. If it's within the last week or so I try to report shitposts to, in hopes of them not being rewarded.

I've got Bitcoin Discussion on ignore, and it's unfortunate since I agree with this sentiment:

considering this forum was named after that section,it ought to be sacred and sanctified, spammers didn't care though..

The Economics section, even though it's pretty loaded with shitposts, does have some good reading in it about bitcoin and the economy.  Hydrogen usually posts some very good articles that are worthy of discussion.  I do think BD and AD both need more moderators--at the very least, BD should get more.  I get that it's like fighting bees trying to delete posts and so forth in that section, but it ought to be worth it for Theymos to at least try to reduce spam there.

Since I've got BD blocked, I haven't noticed any changes but I believe the members who've said there's no difference in it.  I don't think the recent merit requirement change would be having much effect, especially in the spam sections.

It's better than it was few weeks ago and there is still room for improvement.
Endeavour to flag threads which are not meant to be in that board.
Also if you are going to start a thread, self moderate it to control the conversation, this is not always effective as users would rarely keep tabs with the post after dropping it.
It's best to lock a thread once the discussion has reached a climax, or your query solved.

I’ve been reporting shit posters semi regularly in Bitcoin Discussion. It’s good to try & do your bit if you have time to help clean up the shit.

It still doesn’t seem that much better to me, there are still brainless replies in mega threads. I rarely post in there now to be honest & it used to be my favourite part of the forum.

Meh, I just came back from there and only able to comment on one thread. The rest is just spam mega-threads and should be locked.
I feel we need more moderators there to deal with reports (lock, ban, etc.), IMO Indonesian local board is a much better place for now.

It's not under control at all. A quick glance right now shows that >50% of the threads on the first page are spam mega threads that could all be locked.

At times I do post there but probably within the first few pages of the thread. The person who makes the post rarely comes back to see replies and thus they are not worth following up.

I've found the exact same thing. In any given thread you can usually get some reasonable discussion in the first page or two, with people actually reading replies and responding to each other, even if OP is nowhere to be seen. Beyond pages 3-4, the spammers usually take over, and any genuine discussion is slowly suffocated under shitpost after shitpost until by page 5 onwards it is usually just a spamfest.

The board needs a dedicated mod or two to delete these shitposts before they ruin threads, and to lock any threads that are turning into spam threads long before they reach 50+ pages.

I think now the bitcoin discussion is heavily moderated by our mods because there were lot of shit threads were trashed immediately but there are lot of spam mega threads where the users still used to post the things again and again so we need to lock the spam megathreads to get back our bitcoin discussion.

Rewind back to about a month ago,it was simply pathetic to think of crossing paths with the bitcoin section,it was an eye sore to say the least, with no less  than 70 replies per thread and the comments still flooding in,it was even more pathetic considering this forum was named after that section,it ought to be sacred and sanctified, spammers didn't care though..
Its still the same. Unless there is a control over the flood of bounty spammers with oneliners and regurgitated half-digested posters there wont be any end to the spam there.

But it's fair to say that for over a month or so now and that section is now back to what it was created for,and that's real bitcoin discussion, you can now ask a honest question and get replies from high ranked members in there, the section needed to breathe fresh air,and that's exactly what it's doing right now,I do hope it stays that way..
How did you come to the conclusion that it is under control? I go there everyday once to find out one or two threads worth posting in and sadly 80% of the time I turn away. At times I do post there but probably within the first few pages of the thread. The person who makes the post rarely comes back to see replies and thus they are not worth following up.

With that been said the Altcoin discussion is still writhing under a myriad of throes of ailments called spam, there is no thread less than 70 replies in there and threads started 6 months back still make it to the top.. I think we should put on our gloves and return that section back to what it should be
The altcoins section is another mess. I cant even start to think how much workload is on the mods and how they are able to maintain their sanity after going through all the reports piling up.

Well it certainly looks a lot better than it used to. I see there are still posters using all capitals for their thread titles. That's a godd indication of a possibly low grade thread, and only two threads started by members I've got on ignore. It still seems to have quite a few "schoolboy" threads, and I didn't see a thread that tempted me to open it, but I'll keepan eye on it in case some meritable threads ( in my opinion) pop up.

Really? I still see many megathreads there, with lots of shitposts, although I've been reporting some lately. What happens is, if you open a thread, usually higher ranked members will reply to you (if your question is relevant), or if you comment on a thead with few pages, you will see some discussion going on. But there is still lots of trash.

Uhm...well it wasnt such a high profile battle such as Mark Tyson Vs Trevor Berbick or Floyd moneyman Vs Manny Pacquiao, but it indeed was a battle worth fighting...

I once even bumbed into three threads all on the front page "will bitcoin die" and replies kept popping in on all of them....
