Throughout the past 24 hours, the dominance index of Bitcoin achieved 55 percent, its highest point since December of last year.
Which means most of the altcoins are going to die, even ethrereum looks very dangerous now  so people may consider bitcoin as safest of other coins and moving away from those make the dominance level getting increased but no new money coming into the market which causes the price of bitcoin to stay at the same level even the dominance keeps increasing.

The dominance is still intact, i don't understand why there are so many people worried about this situation because it is more than obvious that bitcoin will be on the market forever, and there is no way to see it being replaced by another coin

Altcoins may slowly gain percentage but sure btc will stay dominant for lbg time.

If you keep printing tokens, you'll push back Bitcoin's market cap dominance below 10% within 2 years.

It's not fair. These lists shouldn't exist. Or at least, should be set up in a better way. One coin isn't the other, where people also ignore Ethereum's dominance.

All the tokens that are being printed through Ethereum are pushing Ethereum down as well, and this is just the beginning. If EOS gains traction, it will eat away a lot of its market cap. It gave birth to EOS, and as a thank you EOS will make sure Ethereum gets knocked out. The crypto market is extremely brutal, no entity in this market enjoys any form of mercy. You eat or get eaten, it's that simple.

Every exchange has bitcoin wallet , every altcoin has a parity with bitcoin and some altcoin can only be bought via bitcoin, so dominance will continue , every strong altcoin will eat from btc share. Altcoins may slowly gain percentage but sure btc will stay dominant for lbg time.

Bitcoin dominance is below 40%

Other altcoins gain dominance.

What do you think? It will correct like last year? I think we're going to have a big correction next days in altcoins price and market cap caused by an increase in btc price. But It will only recover 10-15% of dominance, not all.

It was normal for the price today to go down because the market price last december pump's so much so we can expect a down price today, always remember that volatility is necessary in order to earn profit.

Even if bitcoin will pump again, I am sure some of the altcoin like ethereum will maintain its cost.
Why will a coin with most usage in the crypto space remain its price when some coins without a real life usage are increasing in price? Maybe that is what you think but I can assure you that it will never happen that way.

The bitcoin dominance today is slowly depreciating but it does not really matter because you can invest while market price is still low, taking advantage today of the current state in the market will make you earn more profit in the future.

Bitcoin dominance will appreciate when its price would rise again. People would sell their alts and buy bitcoin again because it is a much safer option when bitcoin makes a rapid movement. We know that there is a potential catalyst that may push the price of bitcoin to unprecedented heights again and this would make bitcoin more dominant again against other coins. Price of almost all coins is controlled by bitcoin in some way because whenever its price goes down, we can notice that market is bearish full of reds and when its price rise or moving sideways, market is green.

Since the beginning of the month in this year the dominance of bitcoin did experience a fairly large decline but a few days ago investors have started to enter the market and divert their investments into bitcoin so that bitcoin dominance began to rise again. I hope that the dominance will increase in order to boost the confidence of other investors and certainly help increase the price of bitcoin in the future.
The dominance of bitcoin is artificially low, the forks lowered that number and the huge amount of useless coins keep that number lower, in my opinion the real bitcoin dominance in this market is still above 50% probably closer to 60% or 70% but we are only going to see those numbers again when a big number of the useless icos disappear, something that is going to take a lot of time for what I can see.

I think People are confused right now, and they are misleading and I feel it's just a matter of time before it shows up, and people ran back to invest in it. So I do not really think that alts get the top edge of crypto king.
What rises that down and keeps it down, but bitcoin follows a different pattern when it goes up, it goes down sometimes and then rises to another level. Bitcoin only last year 1k at the moment and see where it ends.

Yeah... bitcoin is still the dominant crypto currency coin. Although public confidence in the crypto currency has decreased but this belief is higher than confidence in other crypto currencies. Bitcoin as the oldest crypto currency already has a deeply rooted belief of the community that it becomes a plusco bitcoin to remain the dominant coin. As the dominant coin, bitcoin should be more active in innovating and making improvements. Bitcoin is eagerly anticipated to launch new innovations that can certainly sustain people's confidence in bitcoin.

It's true that Day by day other Altcoin is getting closer to Bitcoin dominance but it requires a lot of time. I believe that Bitcoin will be capable to maintain its dominance at least more three or four years. So that throws your hesitation regarding Bitcoin future. I think this year again will correct all of the situations like the last December.
One thing, we should remain in our mind that Bitcoin is the fundamental platform of this blockchain system so that it will always carry the vital role in the system.

The number of bitcoins is a constant unit that the creators release. It was assumed that they would be analogous to gold or other precious metals, and the main difference between gold and money is that it is a limited resource.

My opinion is that despite the decline it had at the end of last year and the loss of positions relative to other coins,
BTC will regain the big lead as a market dominator.
Bitcoin existence will going strong despite of its decreasing of the price it will makes to increase. Bitcoin proven to stand until this time the dominance will continue. However, bitcoin will recover from its so low of price in the future.

Bitcoin has nearly 41% share in cryptocurrency market. All altcoins in total have remaining share. Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency introduced to the world. So dominance by bitcoin is obvious. But now due to some reasons bitcoins dominance is shaking. Other cryptocurrencies, altcoins are sharing bitcoins investments. Bitcoin is banned by many countries due to security reasons. Bitcoin high price and high volatility is stopping many investors to invest in. These investors are switching to second best assets, altcoins. Altcoins are cheap as compared to bitcoins but posses almost all features of bitcoins.

Regarding the way that now it is productive to exchange cryptographic forms of money not bitcoin, but rather with different coins, that is the reason things being what they are bitcoin gives its positions in the market. Obviously coins attached to bitcoin will bolster this rate, in respect to the dollar, however I imagine that the season of tremendous deals and buys of bitcoin is finished and the time of altcoins is coming.

Bitcoin dominance fluctuates according to the market, it is a common thing obviously. Altcoins dominance is nothing compare to bitcoin, whenever altcoins price rises, bitcoin tend to fall and vice versa. But, at the end of the day bitcoin will recover and gain more value such as it is today.
in general, dominance means nothing without utility, some coins such as ethereum and monero tend to rise over time due to the utility it has.

I think Bitcoin will always be there to guide other altcoins in pricing, like gold in other currencies.(with these long transaction times and high tx fees i doubt that bitcoin will ever use as a currency)
So maybe we will see ripple, cardano or else accepted signs in the stores but it won't decrease bitcoin value or dominance.

I think the dominance of bitcoin will decrease because of other new coins appearing right now so people are trying that coins and the tendency is they temporarily deduct their bitcoin value but i think it will be back when high profiled investors will come in and bitcoin's price will boost, its dominance will be high like last year. It's dominance will never be replaced by other coin, i guess.

Bitcoin has a different pattern from any cryptocurrency coin that is available on the market. It is the most unpredictable in all of them and even the expert (as they say) failed to give definitive speculative analysis about bitcoins behaviour and movement. It increases now and turn to touch 17000$ a good sign for those who hold and still a good price to invest as it always has a tendency for a bull run in few days from now.

A lot of speculators are running back and forth between BCash and BTC and also Ripple and BTC, to make some quick profits from all of the hype. As soon as Bitcoin has solved it's scaling problems, most of that money will come running back to BTC.

Bitcoin dominance is not very relevant regarding its price.
It had over 50% when the total number of altcoins in CoinMarketCap was ~1000. Now there are over 1300.

When there will be over 5000 altcoins, it will be hard to believe that one single coin can own 50% of the Total MarketCap, even if the BTC price will raise to 50k.

Yes exactly as the market gets more diluted with more coins BTC dominance is going to continue to slip. That is unless it is vastly superior and has a death grip above all other coins, we know this to be not true. Therefore it will lose some dominance now, re gather it back to 50-60% and sometime next year the dominance will slip further than it will at its peak now. It is only a natural progression, nothing to fear here people Smiley.

I totally agree with you. No crypto currency will be able to get so many buyers. Bitcoin for a long time will be the leader among the rest of the crypto currency.

Absolutely, not only because of its potential, also because people have to buy it first in order to buy some other Altcoins. Bitcoin is most easy to acquire/buy and thus making it top crypto currency for usage. But don't know about how long it will be holding its top position but surely no doubt for next 8-10 years its still No.1

so far bitcoin fees went up because of many things including more adoption which is practically even more dominance, and more usage, and more spam attack. that meant a big pump of altcoins that used the opportunity to advertise and do a fake pump.
in the end none of them have yet exited the exchanges and pure speculation space. whereas bitcoin is actually used as a currency in the real world. the dominance doesn't get any bigger than that Wink
I doubt if there is a real usage of bitcoin as a currency. The network congestion have lead to high tx fees and have made BTC almost unusable for small tx. I only see LN as the only solution. Regarding altcoins, it would be wrong calling all of them useless. There are indeed many shit coins in the market. But you can't neglect the coins like ETH, NEO, DASH, CND, POWR, ZEC etc with real world utility.

Does anyone think it can go up to at least 50 percent?
Right now total cryptocurrency mcap is almost $750 billion. Till the time BTC reaches $27k, total mcap might reaches $900k, then yes btc will cross 50% of total mcap. It is indeed possible!

The decrease in Bitcoin's dominance is not so surprising (for me) at all. More and more cryptocurrency are being in existence every month so the people are having more and more options. Mathematically speaking, when the base number increases, the part of the whole decreases in percentage and that would be the possible reason why Bitcoin's dominance is decreasing. However, people are just using the alts to increase their Bitcoin so sooner or later, the dominance will eventually increase.

In connection with the fact that now it is profitable to trade in crypto currencies not bitcoin, but with other coins, that's why it turns out that bitcoin gives its positions in the market. Of course coins tied to bitcoin will support this rate, relative to the dollar, but I think that the time of huge sales and purchases of bitcoin is over and the era of altcoins is coming.

Bitcoin is still being developed and is now beginning to be applied to some financial sectors, I am sure if we can maintain this condition then we can see Bitcoin which is much better and can mean for our life in the future. Some Altcoins do show good prospects, but in the end we'll see that Bitcoin remains the best to be used widely in the future.

Yup! It can sure maintain its dominance to all coins we might see that the value of bitcoin doesn't move so much but I really think it will make a come back and will gain momentum anytime soon, We can see that Altcoins really gaining popularity and because it has cheaper value than bitcoin it is gaining more investors and we can see from its recent movement that many Altcoins have gain so much price in just a short time, That is why OP had thought that way.

Bitcoin is now dominating other digital currencies and even real money. For some time now it has gained so much dominance and a lot of countries worldwide are buying into it. From the look of things it will dominate for a longer period.

Tbh, for a healthy overall market it'd be nice for Bitcoin not to have so move crazy dominance & influence over the overall market. Having said that, I don't see BTC dominance ending anytime soon & expect it to stay in the 30% to 40% range during 2018.

There is no need to worry about price of btc, it will jump higher then ever before. Its just little correction of the price and the lots of people were selling because of the holidays and etc. So just sit and relax and enjoy. Smiley

Yeah, as bitcoin holder we have to not panic when the price move down. It is very common to happen. As you said, the previous holidays maybe is the main factor why the price moving down. As for now, the price start to climb again and that is good for sure.

If lightning network will be as good as what they say then I'm sure bitcoin will recover some dominance, IMO one of the most important reasons for people using altcoins is the high fees and transaction times in the bitcoin network.

im beginning to believe that the dominace of Bitcoins comes to an end. Altcoins will grow a lot more than BTC will in 2018. Modern, technical usefull and innavativ coins will be implemented in business and will prove its worth.
Yes that is true, bitcoin will be the true coin that will be with us until the end, that will put us though success in life, but of course, not now it can be after a year or a decade or so, just make sure to believe in what you are doing and patience is always in your mind. It is okay to invest in altcoins but it is just for a short term.
We can't tell when will gonna be the dominance of bitcoin in the world of digital currency and we don't set aside the potential of other altcoin that exist. But then it is a good news that bitcoin remain in its dominance for a long time because of this it attracts more new investors which make it an in demand coin today.

Even at 36% at the moment of writing this, Bitcoin still has the lion's share when it comes to dominance. Expect it's dominance to increase in the next few months but also remember XRP is constantly on it's neck as far as dominance is concerned.

What do you think? It will correct like last year? I think we're going to have a big correction next days in altcoins price and market cap caused by an increase in btc price. But It will only recover 10-15% of dominance, not all.

Bitcoin will continue to dominate alt coin, I think it will regain it's maintaining increase like in the previous months. It's will keep on increasing because as of the moment more and more people are getting attracted to it's full potentials.
There's no doubt that bitcoin will continue and will remain dominant kind of digital currency that exist and I believe in that because today there's no kind of altcoin that could be like bitcoin and for that it is the reason why bitcoin remain dominant. And also due to increasing the community of bitcoin so that its status will still remain.

No matter to those figures Bitcoin has still the domimance and it will keep it.
The market is dynamic and the ratio is changing all the time, new altcoins appear all the time but Bitcoin is still the most attractive cryptocurrency and for other coins is hard to compete. So, it's not very good just to stick to the ststistics.
I agree with you. As if the other crypto currencies did not try to fill the market, bitcoin still ranks first. Because its power attracts many people and it will always be so.

Some of you think bitcoin and altcoins will increase, then global market cap will increase. What's the possible top of global market cap?

I'm not very optimistic with the predictions regarding altcoins, I think we'll have a correction soon, but I also think global market cap will be x2 or x3 in 2018.

Cryptocurrency is great technology and I know it will soar higher in coming years. The price movements of altcoins right now are pretty impressive and I think correction may not happen early in 2018. Bitcoin now are still pumping and dumping but I know we have a bright future with bitcoin. Smiley

But not all altcoins did get an increase.
This recent events might be just because of the holidays.
There could be a lot of reasons. Either they traded their investments from bitcoin to another alt or they withdrew.
Who knows?
If an altcoin gains a value it is because of the support and the marketing doing their jobs.
That is all.

Even if bitcoin will pump again, I am sure some of the altcoin like ethereum will maintain its cost.

There could be a possibility that bitcoin dominance might be slightly affected in the beginning of the year probably
because there are now many crypto currencies that are emerging on the market. Certainly, I think that bitcoin
would still continue to excel more than the other crypto currencies out there.

yeah it is 40%, it is very hard to believe. i thought it should have been at least 5% by now but it is 40%.

Because many of the rest are contemptible junk with no usage or decentralisation. Anyone who thinks ten shitcoins should have same the value as the oldest of them all is primed to be raped by alts.

I can easily see it falling below 30% or more but this is no longer the same market and it's not in competition with much of the stuff out there.

Until Ethereum really took off, Bitcoin accounted for 85-90% of crypto marketcap. I think those glory days of Bitcoin are behind us. In mid-2017, Bitcoin's dominance was eroded due to blocks getting full and a bitter internal divide. This was reversed during the strong rally in the latter part of 2017, but has again started slipping. I don't think Bitcoin will account for more than 60% of crypto market cap (best case) in the future.

This is quite not surprising at all since it happened before, it is happening now and it can happen again in the future. This is just part and parcel of the kind of dynamic available in the whole cryptocurrency market. Aside from Bitcoin shedding some value due to the Big December Dip, the whole cryptocurrency world is accepting new entrants to the market on a regular basis so this can be a big reason why Bitcoin can be losing the dominance. Anyway, we should not be concerned more on whether Bitcoin remains to be on the top of the whole market or not...I would rather be concerned on its value or price. We are hoping that soon Bitcoin can be making a big surge towards the 20K level again.

yeah it is 40%, it is very hard to believe. i thought it should have been at least 5% by now but it is 40%.

i checked the https://coinmarketcap.com/all/views/all/ website the other day and i saw there are 1374 different altcoins are listed in there and just to think that bitcoin is only 1 out of 1374 (0.07%) and still has dominance over 40% of the market is unbelievable.

Bitcoin dominance is below 40%

What do you think? It will correct like last year?

Bitcoin has a great adoption in relation to the altcoins and this will continue for a long time, but bitcoin will not always have dominance of more than 50% on the altcoins. every day more and more altcoins are created and the tastes/options of each person is difficult to predict and has the issues of transaction fee and delay in confirming transactions and this will cause that bitcoin does not have a domination of more than 50% over altcoins. Honestly, I do not even know why somebody still cares about that.

I think we're going to have a big correction next days in altcoins price and market cap caused by an increase in btc price. But It will only recover 10-15% of dominance, not all.

What goes up that comes down and stays down, however bitcoin follows something different pattern when it goes up, it does come down at times and then it shoots up to another level. Bitcoin was only a 1k last year at this time and look where it ended. People are confused currently, and they are being mislead and i feel it will be only a matter of time before it shoots up, and people run back to invest in it. So i dont really think that alts are gaining any edge over the crypto king.

Yes agree with this but, Bitcoin will bounce back again and other altcoins need a strong technology that everyone supports and trust it.

Maybe, but I strongly believe that Bitcoin will give some of it's market cap to the altcoins. More and more alts are coming on the market and will take money from BTC and ETH.
