An old block chain used to have a torrent floating around. An updated one is available at http://bitcoin.bluematt.me/bitcoin-nightly/blockchain-nightly/ and I believe a snapshot is available on sf or gh somewhere. The block chain is the large part but if you download it, you will not check the validity. So I wouldn't trust a torrent of the block chain anymore.

actually, BT is hash anal, it will automatically delete the pieces that do not match without asking you. all you need is for a trusted person to say what the hash is of the block chain is.
right now after i close the bitcoin client i have 1 file called log.0000000162 size is 9.53 MB (10,000,000 bytes). when i compress it is gets really small 1.35 MB (1,420,207 bytes). it takes hours to download that the normal way, but like 10 min at most on a bad connection via BT.
