More on the alert system in the Bitcoin protocol and when it's been used (this page probably needs updating now!)

There's already an emergency alert system, AFAIK from reading IRC chats tonight. It requires secret private keys which Gavin and a few others have.

The system was used tonight.

It just sends the message that you see on your clients, atleast with the original client it does, dosnt show up on electrum maybe these other clients should think about implementing it.

Yes, I also thought of the fact that in the future, there may be an orchestrated attack on bitcoin, but I would think the devs already have systems in place for this ?

This emergency looks like its about to pass in about 2 or 3 blocks.  Has anyone thought of making an app that will give a push notification only when an emergency such as this arises again?  Might come in handy when the bitcoin network grows really big and things can be tackled even faster.  Text messaging could work too but that costs money and alot of prepaid phones don't support short codes to Opt in.
