For pooled investments, a more realistic idea would be to start an offshore hedge fund.

An offshore hedge fund wouldn't really solve the transaction issue with investing in BTC from USD since you cant trade shares of hedge funds but I get your idea.

Couple links I found ... the reddit discussion has some interesting comments on the mechanics of starting a fund ...

I dont think US government can regulate bitcoin.. Even if they try, bitcoin will move on everyone in the world except US.

I'm sure the US government is already trying to figure out how...

An etf would open every schwab and etrade account in the country (US) to the ability to buy and sell BTC.  Would help with all the shitty exchange options currently.  Kind of like GLD did

Well the sole purpose of the bitcoin and all the other crypto currencies is that it is decentralized, therefore can not be regulated by government(s). Therefore it can only be banned/prohibited by the government. Which is what i would expect would happen in the US, cause the country has wayy to much control over its citizens.

It is clearly stated on the exchanges that everything is virtual, not real.  Not sure if this matters?

Would this be legal under current securities law.  If so anyone know of any coming to market or the idea of any coming to market.  I know Bart Chilton of the CFTC thinks they should be regulated which might mean futures and other derivitives under the CFTC arm in them.
