Okay, I'm getting the impression that no one has made a USB mining farm inside of a PC case so it's hidden from unknowing eyes with optimal air flow.. and since we're off topic today, what's the deal with video cards? Why does everyone use these ATI 5830 or 5870 video cards? These things are hundreds of dollars and don't perform nearly as fast as one of the Bitmain U2 AntMiners, Any reason there are so many builds like this and none that I've been able to find like what I'm thinking of?

Those were the cards people used a few years ago.  R9 cards are what people use now and they are more profitable than USB miners because they mine scrypt coins which produce a steady consistent stream of income unlike bitcoin mining.

while all fun and cool you'll barely make a fraction of your investment back.

usb miners are a complete rip at this point in the game

also those cheap 7 port ebay adapters likely aren't powerful enough

Those might do 1$ a day today but they will do 0.8$ next month and so on. We can all agree those will never ROI. But at least you will understand how mining works and how difficulty affects mining.

Well, this an old setup of mine (from over a year ago):

It eventually had another stack going down to the psu, but yea... it's since been reconfigured to house several drillbit-8 boards, with a much different fan setup and completely gutted the inside to allow for more room.

I had the case sitting around for over a year, bought it for a gaming rig I was building, turned out the case (which is pretty damn big) wasn't big enough for the new mobo I ordered (ATX-XL) so the case never got used until I did the above with it.

it does not make much sense to put them into the pc case, they look a lot better outside of it Smiley

I would'nt say that, they are just older and better units are available for better pricing but if you search there are lots of people that ran 49 port hubs filled with u1's etc...

As far as the GPU cards, those were the old go to cards, again there are much better out now. People still use them for alt-coin mining.

The Bitmain S1 AntMiner uses a lot more power and gives you less hash/s

You not looking at the costs correctly. Your theory is correct about the cost being much lower in the long run but the initial price difference would need to be way closer for that to hold true, for example:

You said in your first post 9 Bitmain U2 AntMiners for $200 so that's

1.6 * 9 = 14.4 Ghash/s for $200

or

S1 at 180 Ghash/s for ~$400

The power savings wont be enough to recoup these difference in my opinion.

That said, since it looks like your already bought them good luck with it!

OP it also depends on where you're located.

In US and Canada, mining can be VERY costly compared to just outright buy BTC.

Mining income is taxable income, while buying and selling BTC can be taxed as long term capital gain.

OMG... Actually, why the heck are you using ASICMINER Block Erupter USBs....
Seriously....
Those things are literally useless right now... Get a AntMiner S1 or two...

I just covered this, I already said the ASIC Block Erupters were a bad buy, I just found out about Bitcoin roughly a week ago, well I knew about it, I had no idea what it was until about a week ago but I already said the ASIC Block Erupters were an impulse buy, I bough them because they were cheap and way faster then my laptop which is only 45Mhash/s, so when I saw 336Mhash/s and overclock to 444Mhash/s for less then a buck more, I was all over that for how cheap they were, and then I started looking into it and found out what I bought was total crap but they've already shipped so it's too late now and I'm not paying return shipping so, mistake made, learned from it, I bought Bitmain U2 AntMiners and better USB hubs because of the power consumption as oppose to the Bitmain S1 AntMiner, the power consumption/hashrate is very high on that compared to the USB ones which is why I went with them.

The Bitmain S1 AntMiner uses a lot more power and gives you less hash/s, I covered this in my earlier post. I'm also intending on Mining by contract online, so I'm building a rig I'm going to rent out per 24 hour time frame, I've been seeing that it seems to be where the main sales are on eBay is by selling 24 hour plots of rig usage on someone's rig. They spend all the money, you spend a few bucks to earn some bitcoing for 24 hour then just wait for Bitcoin to go up to more then what you paid and exchange back to your currency. At least that's the goal, and if not, each 19.8Ghash/s rig is $250, at the going rate that's about a buck a day, so give or take around 200 days to pay itself off when I leave it running when it's not on a paid contract mining for someone else.

But again.. I made this thread about information on anyone who has made a mining rig, that's not made of video cards, but still inside of a PC case lol, This forum is really off topic I've noticed haha

Jesus, why would you invest into mining now ? At the current price, you should just buy BTC.

Please do calculation properly.

With those USB erupters it would be very hard indeed to earn some cash ...

but ... I wish you $$$$ and all best!

better to think about some Gridseed or Antminer S1

Well it's more for future power as well, a 1000w power supply in a PC isn't going to be pulling 1000w at 120v the entire time, where as leaving a USB wall plug in, is. It pulls the full power consumption and then displays it as needed. This is why you should unplug a phone charger when not using it because they still use power even when nothing is plugged into them.

Next in order, the Bitmain S1 AntMiner uses 360w for 180Ghash/s, the Bitmain U2 AntMiner is 1.6Ghash/s at 2w, so if I take 360w worth of Bitmain U2 AntMiners, that gives me a total of 288Ghash/s so the Bitmain S1 AntMiner isn't really that great when it comes down to hydro usage every month vs hash rate. Sure it's more to buy but I save a lot more power each month by using these little USB sticks, and keeping in mind I didn't know about the Bitmain U2 AntMiner when I bought the original 15 Block Erupters, overclock components to solder on to get them to 0.444Ghash/s and the 5 USB hubs so in the grand total, those are the kind of, n00b purchase cause I didn't really know what I was looking for when I got them, it was more of an impulse buy so those ones kill the tally.

If you look at just the Bitmain U2 AitMiners and USB hub, it was $250 for 19.8Ghash/s ($200 for 9 Bitmain U2 AntMiners, and $50 for 1 Anker 9 port USB hub), the $630 is everything invested which includes 5 Anker 9 USB hubs for when I expand, I also bought 5 of the 7port hubs but only bought 15 Block Erupters and running 5 in each hub so two hubs will be left over for upgrading in the future, which was a bad purchase becasue the upgrading is now with the Anker 9's and Bitmain U2 AntMiners lol

Also with the math, given that they all start off at their suggested hash rate, the original 15 Block Erupters should make 0.444Ghash/s each, so that's a total of 6.66Ghash/s, then the 9 2.2Ghash/s software overclocked U2 AntMiners will be clocked in at 19.8Ghash/s, so that's 26.46Ghash/s while still running at 5v with very low wattage Tongue

The U2 AntMiners are also supported for overclock up to 2.4Ghash/s but the things I've read online don't really put me there yet so I was going to keep them to the standard overclock to 2.2Ghash/s

But yes, investment/hashrate, it's a bust, but investment/hydro/hashrate I think I made the best investment, but this was more about information regarding a PC case and if anyone has done it before so I kinda know what I'm getting into, which way should I row the usb ports, side ways on the case chassis? lay them standing up where the motherboard would normally resign?

$630 for ~ 23GH/s? Ouch. Sorry man, you got ripped off. Those AntMiner S1 are like $400 right now, and they do 200GH/s, with a lot easier setup.

For power, you don't need a 1000W PSU for a couple of usb miners. They're going to pull like 50W, tops. And that 50W is all going to be @ 5V, while your PSU will mostly be geared towards gobs of power on the 12V line. You're better off using the stock power brick your hubs came with.

You will never make back your investment. You would be better served buying one antminer and get 200gh for less then this setup.

Okay so I'm just getting into Bitcoin, I bought some mega cheap USB hubs off of eBay (for meow), I have a QX-2000 PC Case by AeroCool and I'm thinking of buying another one to put all of the mining hardware inside, the case has extreme cooling options, I was thinking of gutting out the case, fab some brackets for the mining rigs, and then powering them separately from a PC power supply within the case. What do you think?

USB hubs from eBay (obviously not enough power output to power all of the miners) so they'll be powered by the PC power supply with factory mounting points for it within the case as oppose to a bunch of outlets being used, I can just power one higher power PC power supply.

The reason I'm going with this case is because I already have one and I think it would be pretty neat to have two of them stacked on top of each other. I did some Googling and I can't really find any mining rigs that are inside of a PC case other then crazy video card set ups, but the case I'm thinking of doing would be strictly a PC power supply and then new brackets to house a bunch of USB hubs with USB miners, to me, I feel this is a great idea because of all the factory supplied mounting locations for fans.

So far I bought 5 7port USB hubs from eBay for around $20 for all of them, I bought 15 ASIC Block Erupters (0.336Mhash/s) for $150, I bought the "overclock kits" but assembled them myself for all 15 ASIC Block Erupters for about 10 bucks to overclock them to 0.444Mhash/s, so far they have not come in the mail yet but I just found the 2.0Ghash/s (software overclock to 2.2Ghash/s) Bitmain U2 AntMiners last night and I wish I found those first, so I bought 9 of those to start for $200 since I also bought five Anker 9's for $250

So when it all comes in, I'm going to be running three of the 5 7port hubs with 5 ASIC Block Erupters in each, and then when the Anker 9 port's come in, I'll be running one of those with 9 Bitmain U2 AntMiners. And I'm going to try and cram all in this into a QX-2000 PC Case with a bunch of fans in the case to keep it all nice and cool.

Shopping List:

5 of these 7 port USB Hubs off of eBay for $20

15 ASIC Block Erupters for $150
http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp349/helios16v/Bitcoin/download2.jpg

I put together 15 kits for a 0.444Mhash/s overclock (with a 9x9mm heatsink for each miner) for $10
http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp349/helios16v/Bitcoin/download4.jpg

9 Bitmain U2 AntMiners for $200
http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp349/helios16v/Bitcoin/download3.jpg

5 Anker 9+1 port USB Hubs (9 signal, 1 power for a fan) for $250

http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp349/helios16v/Bitcoin/download1.jpg

Total: $630

And possibly another QX-2000 case for $100
http://i426.photobucket.com/albums/pp349/helios16v/Bitcoin/images.jpg

And I haven't decided on a power supply yet, I'm thinking something around 750w to 1000w so I have more then enough power if I decide to upgrade in the future.

So, what do you think of my build idea? Good? Will I run into any problems? Has anyone done this before? If so, are there any tips you could give me?
