I tried the faucet when I first installed the app, but I think it was just when it first starting having trouble.
When it came back, tried again.  I can only assume they think I got my BTPennies already and just back for more.  Oh well, no such things as a free lunch...

Oh, they want your phone number to send SMS spam.  No thanks.

You can try it at http://faucet.bitcoin.st/. I can't vouch for it and I have no affiliation with them.

I agree; though creating bitcoin addresses is the very definition of trivial. Create a unique one to give them, then block any further SMSes from them.

Although I can understand they want to prevent abuse with the SMS verification, I'm not going to like my cell phone number to a Bitcoin wallet .. :/

I tried the SMS one but it wants to talk to port 8333 directly and I'm not usually all that generous with the firewall. So, no. Not as yet.

For those looking to get started with a bitpenny, it looks like the Bitcoin Faucet (http://freebitcoins.appspot.com/) is back....
