There are already many post asking that question. I think you should read older post here in the Newbies section to find what you are looking for. I recommend you to go to the bitcoin webpage and take a look to the introductory video, it contains all the basic notions that you need to know about bitcoin to get started with it.
If you could sum up Bitcoin in a FEW, simple, easy steps, how would you word it and what would be most important to include?
