Hi,

I am new to bitcoin, blockchain etc. and want to ask one technical question about bitcoin hardfork or segwit: if community decide to do hardfork or segwit or anything else: how much time will take bitcoin update process? 1 minute, 1 day some month or even years? I mean technically.

Thank you.

Do not care about it ...
If bitcoin fork you will know it in advange ...
But not why someone takes care of you, but because big miners like bitmain, will risk to loose big money ....
So, all will be done with extreme caution and the news will be spread in advance!

A hard fork is when a block that doesn't follow the older rules gets mined and it gets diverged from the original blockchain. When or before the fork happens, you have to run the newer version of the software for which the rules is agreed upon by majority of the community. Then, the blocks will be branched out from the new blockchain and the older blockchain would die off.

Segwit is a soft forks and soft forks are backwards compatible. You don't have to do anything when it activates.
