I used the instructions from reddit to claim by Bitcoin gold. Anyone who wants can refer to this

https://www.reddit.com/r/BitcoinMarkets/comments/7db1hk/a_method_of_claiming_bitcoin_gold_btg_coins_right/

Also for electrum its is much safer if you create a new wallet and transfer all your BTC to it. Then use the private keys of the old wallet and sweep as per instructions given. This will ensure all your Bitcoin from old wallet to be safe. And your private keys will have only the BTC you had before 25th of october.

Very crucial to transfer your BTC to another wallet first before claiming your btg, do not use freewallet or their official wallet, someone reported to have lost their BTC when they use the official wallet, mybtgwallet.com and there is another clone of it is totally phishing wallet that collect your private key/seed word do not use it, bitcoin gold is totally scam coin

~ I guess I have to download that 150 GB monster of a blockchain and then complain about not being able to import my privkey into BTG-QT or something Tongue

"BTG-QT" is a fork of bitcoin core and the things they have changed have nothing to do with the GUI and import/export options, just google how to import a private key in bitcoin core and use that article you find to  use on bitcoin gold wallet (BTG-QT or the name they are calling it).

Replied for visibility, I also want to know.

If you are comfortable with using mobile wallets (i.e. coinomi), there is the option to import privat keys.

Apart from that, I've found little to nothing. The webwallet doesn't even have a send option…

yes coinomi has the BTG wallet on its offering.
you can import your private keys from your electrum wallet into the BTG wallet on coinomi.
it is a good idea to not use that electrum wallet after exporting the keys but to open a new one.

Yes and I don't want an Android wallet. I want something Linux. I mean, seriously, do you have any idea what people do with their phones all day long? Who thought mobile wallets were a good idea?

But I digress. I guess I have to download that 150 GB monster of a blockchain and then complain about not being able to import my privkey into BTG-QT or something Tongue

when you are using Electrum, you have all your private keys and you can use them to claim your bitcoin gold or other similar forks in past or future!

for bitcoin gold your current only option (https://bitcoingold.org/downloads/) is to either use the official wallet by the team which is a full node and you will have to download the whole blockchain which is bitcoin blockchain and the additional blocks that BTG mined so far which is around 150 GB more or less and then import your keys there.
or you can use the mobile wallets, there are currently 4 listed. Coinomi seems to be the popular choice.
do not use the web wallet, there were two and the one that is removed now seemed pretty shady to me. the current one doesn't have the option to create transactions and broadcasting them anyways!

note: send your bitcoins to a new address (wallet with new seed) before importing the keys in any other wallet.
