Talking a store front owner into accepting bitcoin is one thing.

Talking them into purchasing a $2,000 point of sale device is another matter.

Seems like they could just sign up with a bitpay account, or various other online services where customer can scan QR code to automatically pay?

These apps are for Android and other smartphones. Simple, Convenient, and Free.

How can Bitcoin be used in a standard, 'brick and mortar' storefront? Are there any services available for this yet, other than a laptop/smartphone with a bitcoin wallet on it?

A friend of mine who is a software developer recently mentioned to me that he would like to build a cheap point-of-sale system for local merchants in our area. A number of places here are cash only because they cant afford to process credit cards. I told him about Bitcoin but I dont know of any existing services that could be used for this.

Thoughts?
