bitcoin'll always survive even if it's a few guys sending them to each other to remember the good old days. You'd have to be kinda dumb to be 100% convinced it's always gonna be on top. It's still the earliest of days and an awful lot can happen.

If a coupla hundred million people are using it then I think the first mover advantage is gonna be set in stone.

now it's even more popular, so it will never die i think, more sellers accepts them now. forever living this
I am already happy if Bitcoin is one of the major digital currencies as far as online payments go. Debit cards will most likely remain the nr1 option for online purchases. They are too far ahead of all payment options/services.
I am quite sure that Bitcoin can overtake PayPal in terms of total transferred value within 5 years. That will be a massive blow in the face of PayPal & Co.

Bitcoin is not immoral, it's amoral.

It is actually immortal. Many people claimed it died many times. But it is still very alive at the moment.

Immortal how? It will be in the history books, because you do know eventually it will become outdated? Sure the foundation and the potential are great real great.
But that's not important. Most people with coins will leave and never come back if the price crashes to 1-10 dollar. That says a lot about the 'community' right? In terms of how dedicated they are.

Bitcoin is proving to be extremely strong, practically "immune to death". If you look at Bitcoin Obituaries, people among the most influential and powerful in the world (let JPMorgan CEO be one example) have been unsuccessfully trying to bring it down. Even Hearn tried to destroy it and, despite all the incredibly negative promotion worldwide, Bitcoin's price went down a little only to (slowly) get back. If not even one of its creators was able to kill it, who will?

Well 'you can always be replaced' is what i think.

nothing is permanent in this world. what different is a virtual thing.

Bitcoin is limited let me tell u. many of them lost many of the stolen and no one can mint more. once that is done what will you do. alt coins with the highest potential will work.

once the bitcoins hype is over the alt coins will rise.. and that i think wont be global.. maybe regional .
\

why on earth would we ever go back to regional currencies after we have made a global currency?

It's not logical to go back like that to something that is worse.

well i think i put it wrong. let me re phrase it.

Bitcoins is global but i don't think other crypto currencies will come up or rather get recognized globally as soon as bitcoin dies or anything happens to it.

answer me this how many years has it been since bitcoins started and how many people from 7.21 billion ( 2013 stats ) use or atleast know about bitcoins?

bitcoin has the first movers advantage and that will keep it well in front for a long time .......
Eventually, bitcoin will fall when a better alternative is offered with enough support. It's popular right now. There is much more publicity for bitcoin, both in a good way and a bad way *which does increase demand, mind you* and thus with the larger community, it offers more opportunities for people who decide to start up in bitcoin.

Perhaps the price will not rise as quickly as the halvings come (for they are exponential) and maybe we'll see less and less people using it due to miners dropping out.

Nothing can kill bitcoin, but it could be worthless one day or not worth as much as it is now. It'll always be around as long as people keep nodes running!

Agreed, with emphasis on greed.  Bitcoin is immortal like gold.  More cannot be created past 21 million and cannot truly be destroyed (though losing private keys is a problem).  But we'll see.  If it doesn't get adopted--used--it certainly could hibernate.

It is true, it does not die easily, and it is not likely that it will. Same for many altcoins. Cryptocurrencies may evolve, but I think they are here to stay and won't die.

Btitcoin will really not die as it revolutionized the money as we know now and it helps a lot of people to earn extra money with this crypto currency.

Immortal no. There is a death for every currency. Even paypal will 'die' eventually.
And so will bitcoin because it will never be a main asset. Always something used besides gold, fiat etc. But the time for bitcoin to shine.. has not come yet. Which means bitcoin got a lot of decades to live.

The whole immportal concept is sort of a illusion.

So heres my take on it.. if something is immortal then its something like fiat where it carries on a cycle of generations still being "used". So if its not used, then its not immortal right lol.

Lets say it does well within this generation, but the next disbands it hence my view.

brother, have you lost faith? you sound like a banker, wtf?  Cheesy

Bitcoin is just another rat race all about greed, fear, with greediest of the biggest and fattest rats exploiting the greed n fear of the market at large.

....and the system is creaking under it's own weight.....just under 3 hours I was yesterday, waiting on just one confirmation. This is becoming par for the course off late.

I fucking h8 Bitcoin. Nothing would give me more pleasure than seeing the whole thing crash.

So why are you wasting your time here?

Is this a Bitcoin supporters thread or a Bitcoin speculation thread?

Only thing that interests me about Bitcoin is sticking a knife in the markets gut and extracting some $'s to put in my own pocket.

I also use it to buy drugs on the darknet, but look forward to the time when a crypto that is a bit more functional, reliable, genuinely anonymous, and not totally dominated by a cabal of vampire parasites takes its place....but for that to happen, Bitcoin first has to blow up......so roll on that inevitable day, I say.

bitcoin speculation thread only mean how much higher bitcoin will go, no one here is for bitcoin going down because the % is pro high not pro lower

it's ok to be bearish for the short term or even for the long term if you like to play on every P&D that will happen, but the final outcome is up

LOL!

The top will come...you won't sell, or sell only very little.....then a correctionn will hit, and you will max ouit your credit card to scoop up 'cheap coins', only for the correction to only cut deeper, and deeper, and then deeper still...eventually forcing your hand way down the very bottom.

In the long run, the vast majority who have ever invested money in Bitcoin will lose. This is the only reason why any opportunity in Bitcoin exists at all. The majority always lose....especially in a zero sum dead end cornered market game like Bitcoin.

you might be right, darling.

i agree, its price wont go don to 100$ or even 200$, it will only rise more and more, it's too hard to kill thing like bitcoin when it's so popular now

it is hard to say never when it comes to bitcoin price. since there is a lot of newbies buying bitcoin and investing their money in it, there is always the possibility of panic sells. because they are newbies and doesn't have enough knowledge of the market and can't recognize FUD they do panic sells easily.

one thing is for sure though. bitcoin will grow overall and never die. as more people use bitcoin, these big swings will become smaller and smaller too.

If not even one of its creators was able to kill it, who will?

pffft.......Give it time.

Bitcoin at the moment, is essentially a cash cow for whales. If Bitcoin is to have another 'moment in the sun', then it will coincide with a Chinese Economic collapse and Capital Flight out of the CNY. Beyond that, Bitcoin don't have nothing going for it that competing cryptos don't do much better and has plenty things wrong with it that other cryto's don't have.

Blockchain is here to stay (unfortunately), but Bitcoin isn't.

I think the price will not even go below $300. If it goes below $300, most miners will not get their initial investment back.

For now it seems to be immortal since there's no direct competitor yet but time will come when a better one comes along without the mining problem (high difficulty) and delays (confirmation).

an altcoin which you can mine without any difficulty will be worthless...

also bitcoin will probably die in the future (like a century from now, perhaps). not because of altcoin but because of time.

i see no reason for that to happen, as long as they do not offer anything worth it, and no right now there is not a single altcoin that offer something that bitcoin lack or that bitcoin can not have in the future
Yes only if suddenly someone brings something really new and more promising.
But even then lots of supporters will stay till the end of bitcoin as we know it today..
More examples you can find at the altcoin scene..

As of now bitcoin is immortal because of its unique coding and algorithms and i dont think altcoin will ever reach that level

I think that is because of the network effect. Bitcoin is the first one and it has first arriver advantage.

Yes it's the network effect and the fact that most of the new innovations in other coins can mostly be implemented in Bitcoin.
So altcoins can be seen as some kind of test laboratories.

For now as it stands yes, It's sort of immortal since IIRC it has died 90 times already and yet here we are, using it day to day however it would need constant improvement by developers to ensure it will last forever and we shouldn't take things for granted just for how they are at the moment as nothing would last forever but some last longer than others.

eMule is immortal (after implemented KAD network).
Bittorent is immortal (after implemented DHT network).
Bitcoin is immortal ... when miner (automated, like 100% every 10s for 1s) is implented on CORE software.

It is certainly not "inmmortal" in the sense of being always on top. As other have said, there are cryptos that offer more features than Bitcoin (faster tranfers, interest, more anonimity etc.) and one of those could reach to be the number one.

But I think that Bitcoin is always likely to survive.

Only further active development can make bitcon immortal. If it is not developed further, it will be replaced by other coins such as Ethereum.

Another altcoin might slow it down but not actually kill it. Someday one of the altcoins will emerge as a better payment option and take away the throne from bitcoin as the top crypto out there.

I agree here, ATM no other alt coin has the infrastructure that Bitcoin has nor the merchants, hashing power, people, development, or funding...

I did NOT invest in ETH but see them as the only ones who eventualy might be able to compete with Bitcoin ONE day. Although they have a long way to go.

It already exist as far as I know. Monero has it all, it just don't get to attract more users and isn't used by a lot of us.
