I have heard of this series several times over the past two years but never had an inking to sit down and view it.
Maybe because I don't have apple tv+ either so there is that too.
But since bitcoin was mentioned I'll try and see if I can find the final episode of the season so to say I watched it.
Just like it was for the simpson's one earlier in the year where they had a 2 minute spot all about cryptocurrency.
Another series I barely have a reason to watch every episode too.

Okay so this is the second time I've come across Ted Lasso mentions on this forum. Probably about time I give it a watch.

Last time Bitcoin was mentioned in a local movie where I. From, it was in the same typical poor erroneous light. Guy even kept the bitcoin in a suitcase ha ha.

Last time I saw it mentioned in tv was in the series Startup, where they actually said their new crypto was superior and more private to Bitcoin. While running it from a single server. And keeping a straight face!

you are going to spend more than a day on a couch for that because i think Ted Lasso is already season 3. sometimes i also just wait for reviews and some people talking about the show before i get to be interested to watch. if its a popular series, it should be worth watching.

hope they are not featuring BTC on crime series where they'd how how BTC are used by the criminals.

If this has happened two years back it could've been a big news. Now if Bitcoin isn't mentioned on the show, then it is a big news. I state this as a commoner from a third world country. In my country people aren't that aware of technology and related growth, but now it is very common to see different programs that talk and discuss about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. Some channels that are available only in the local region too have started series of episodes about bitcoin and how to invest on it.

I was surprised to see Bitcoin mentioned in the Ted Lasso finale. That has to be one of the most popular shows out right now on AppleTV and nowadays that’s barely newsworthy. We’ve come a long way…

In the scene a man on the phone says he bought Bitcoin in 2009 and repeats 2009 while laughing. Pretty cool.
Things like this shouldn’t be a surprise to use any longer. Before, it used to be a surprise, but not this time around when bitcoin is already very popular. After the 2017 bull run and the recent 2021 bull run, bitcoin got very popular and it became a topic in the mouth of everyone, the news kept talking about it. I hardly see anyone these days that doesn’t know or haven’t heard about Bitcoin before, unlike in the year 2015 when people don’t know what it is and I have to explain it to them. So things have changed, and when you hear bitcoin being mentioned in a movie or a song, it shouldn’t be a surprise to you at all.

This is the literal extract being referenced in the scene, derived from the associated subs:
Quote
00:15:26,552 --> 00:15:29,805
If you open yourself to it,
the universe will give you a sign.

252
00:15:30,305 --> 00:15:31,723
Daddy, with all due respect,

253
00:15:31,807 --> 00:15:34,434
isn't this decision too important
to be left to the universe?

254
00:15:34,518 --> 00:15:37,646
The universe
has always put me on the right path.

255
00:15:37,729 --> 00:15:41,984
The universe told me to marry your mother
and to buy Bitcoin in 2009.

256
00:15:42,067 --> 00:15:43,777
2009!

257
00:15:46,488 --> 00:15:49,658
Okay, Dad. I'll keep an eye out
for any messages from the universe.
Since the dialogue references making a purchase, we’d have to assume that it was either later that the 12/10/2009 using the New Liberty Standard (Bitcoin Market & Mt. Gox came in 2010), or through a direct deal with one of the earlier miners …

Can you tell us in which episode bitcoin took place? I haven't heard a lot of series that mention Bitcoin right now.
What is the occasion to mention bitcoin?
The last series I heard was La Casa de Papel from Netflix, but it depicted Bitcoin as a black market currency.

It was in the season finale of season 2.  A player calls home to talk to his Dad and his Dad is giving him a pep talk about how things are meant to be.  He uses the fact that he bought Bitcoin in 2009 to illustrate that point.  Then he repeats 2009 because the idea of someone happening to purchase some Bitcoin back in 2009 and holding it today would be life changing on a level most could never dream.  I imagine it would be giddy to even mention it had you been lucky enough to be in this position.  Makes me giddy even thinking about it.  As for the show, if you haven't watched Ted Lasso you're missing out.

Today's 14% of Americans hold or held crypto. Thats a huge amount. I'm surprised that we don't see "bitcoin" in almost every show. Especially that we see a lot of LGBT stuff while according to Williams Institute only 3.5% of adults in the US identify as LGB. So 4 times more often we should see "bitcoin" in tv shows while its like 1/100 (especially on Netflix)

We've come a long way for sure. The fact that things like this aren't reaching news headlines itself should be a good thing— it means that bitcoin being mentioned in TV shows and such aren't anything new now because it has already happened countless of times.

I am sure that soon this can become so common like mentioning the dollar on TV, movies and entertainment mediums all over the world especially in USA. Now, what does this mean, actually? This means that Bitcoin is now entering the mainstream consciousness of the people and I know this is just the beginning for shows to be referencing Bitcoin either in a positive or even in a negative way. Let's see how this will really impact Bitcoin into the future...
