could be true. but its a fact now, fake or not 
There was someone on Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2no7le/can_someone_explain_whats_going_on_with_this/) pointing out that number of transactions may be manipulated by someone in order to generate hype and thus increasing bullish sentiment. All in all, it's still worth noting that they are indeed increasing at a fascinating pace.
