Yeah, I gave up on this project due to lack of interest.  Wink

bitcoinforum.net has also been sold to someone else - I no longer own that domain.  I do still own bitcoin-forum.net though.

Good thoughts, thanks!  I've been debating on grabbing images, will give that a shot from now on.

Will see what I can do about whitespace...  it's just a wordpress-based site, but css is all editable, so I should be able to squeeze things together a bit up top.

I'm definitely up for going beyond just this site.  Would like to have everything I post automatically feed to other sites, FB, twitter, etc.  I'm not terribly familiar with how the slashdot system works, but I'll look in to it.  Maybe there's something there...

I think it could use some more visual appeal. Maybe grab logos of the sites from which the stories originate with a generic image for those you haven't grabbed yet.

Also, remove some of the white space to get more info above the fold.

Finally, I'm not sure if you want this to go beyond a nice, comprehensive feed-of-a-site but as much as reddit seems to have captured the tech discussion zeitgeist, I feel Slashdot's moderation system is still better. If you can implement moderators and meta-moderation you could give r/Bitcoin a run for it's money.

Lots of new articles yesterday and today!

http://news.bitcoinforums.net/

Still looking for more feedback on what people would like to see.  My aim is to make this the only website you need to find everything that is being written about Bitcoin.

Right, exactly, a one stop shop for all Bitcoin news.  I need a new tagline that better reflects the purpose of the site, just haven't thought of one yet.

Yep, it's got an RSS feed as well.
http://news.bitcoinforums.net/feed/

I'm still organizing the sources... what the best sites to search for Bitcoin-related news are, etc.  The one thing I'm still debating on is whether to include blog posts or not.  They are not really "news", in the traditional sense, but certainly some blogs can be treated that way by readers, so maybe they should be included?

EDIT:  The other thing I am considering is changing the "Posted" date to match the date/time of the articles... that way, the date/time sort of the site would better match the order in which the articles were released, bringing the most recently-released articles to the top.

If you mean regurgitating news  Coinbits.com for sure is an example....then  thebitcointrader.com , bitcoinmoney.com all tend to say the same thing sometimes but then once in awhile you'll get something new on them . I like the articles coming out  bitcoinmedia.com & bitcoinmagazine.net these are my 2 fav's right now.
Thanks for the list.

Coinbits.com seems to be solely focused on reddit.  I can't find anything but reddit reposts on that site.
thebitcointrader.com seems to write his own stuff, not regurgitate.  His most recent post was March 3rd, 2012.
bitcoinmoney.com seems to pick selective articles and comment on them.
bitcoinmedia.com has lots of original content - very cool!
bitcoinmagazine.net - lots of original content as well, of course.

So, none of them offer a comprehensive, "every Bitcoin-related article is here" listing of news.  That's what I'm after with this site - showing everyone what the world is saying about Bitcoin, and not missing anything related to it.  The best correlation I've seen so far is, like I said before, the "Bitcoin press hits, notable sources" thread here.  But even that thread doesn't catch all related news articles, sometimes missing interesting articles, etc.

Maybe I'm the only one who is interested in such a site existing though?  Cheesy

I don't think I'm a decent enough writer to come up with a lot of my own content, but I think adding commentary, where appropriate, is a good idea.

You bring up good points I suppose I phrased it wrong - those sites have the same content but worded differently respectively to their owners  so you are  right  coinbits is automated from reddit true.

I'm starting to get a better idea of what you are saying please do it! lol   sort of a "one stop shop" for ALL the news regarding Bitcoin would this be right ? If so yes please do this.  You are right that thread contains like all the most recent bitcoin related articles I get what you are saying now.  Yes, I'm not a good writer either! haha .... I say just come up with a comprehensive site  with a RSS feed also Tongue    then I will cry with joy! lol

I think we have a lot more news sources in Bitcoin than we do generators of news. So if you want to do a news site, make it one that serves to reach out to non-Bitcoiners who need to move funds online or have found a reason to do so.

Maybe make it digital currency news and talk about Bitcoin as the predominant digital currency or (huge self-interest alert) make a Bitcoin downloadable goods news site...mentioning and reviewing new items that are becoming available for Bitcoin (on coinDL). Smiley

That's my 0.02 BTC.
I suppose the inspiration for this idea in the first place came from the "Bitcoin press hits, notable sources" thread.  I thought, why not make a site to accomplish a similar purpose - showing everyone what the world was saying about Bitcoin, but being a bit more comprehensive about it?  And giving more options for finding that information.  So far, the only similar service I've seen is Bitcoin Reporter on twitter, and that service doesn't seem to be updated too regularly... and it's only on twitter.

Thanks for the feedback though - I'll certainly consider doing maybe a "reviews" site of various Bitcoin digital and physical products.  Wink

You should do something similar to the thread you mentioned but maybe tie in a little bit of your own take on things  or add your own news story like on top or something so it gives some of your own branding because there are alot of sites regurgitating the same news over & over ....just me 2 bitcents Smiley
What other sites are there doing this for Bitcoin news?  Or do you just mean in general?

I've been toying with the idea of maintaining a news listing, bringing together ALL the news articles I find related to Bitcoins.  Even things only slightly related (like video card news for miners, etc).  So, I started a site.

http://news.bitcoinforums.net/

Right now, I have "relevancy" categories, so articles about video cards might get a priority 1 or 2, articles about mint chip and other digital currencies might get a 3, and articles referencing Bitcoin more directly would get a 4 or a 5.  Thinking about changing these to more identifiable categories, like "Mining", "Other Digital Currencies", etc.

Also planning to RSS everything posted to a twitter account, and of course, an RSS feed is available directly on the site itself to be used elsewhere as well.  Was going to do Facebook as well, but apparently Facebook doesn't allow import of RSS anymore.

So, thoughts?  Is this service/site needed or wanted?  Suggestions on what you'd like to see or ways to improve it?
