I have been watching this market for a long time.

It seems that in the early part of a bull market, Bitcoin goes up faster than altcoins (ie Bitcoin dominance goes up.)  In the late part of a bull market, Bitcoin still goes up but altcoins go up even better (ie Bitcoin dominance goes down.)

In a bear market, altcoins fall faster than Bitcoin (ie Bitcoin dominance recovers somewhat but has to wait for the next bull market to go really high.)

So, it would seem the correct play is to buy altcoins at this point, and then convert them into Bitcoin (or sell) when you see the bull market ending?

Any thoughts?

[I used to post as BobK71, and am using a new account after some logistical mixup.]
Both are profitable and you can buy both bitcoin and altcoins. I will suggest you to buy bitcoin more and less amount of altcoins. Bitcoin is more profitable at this time and most trusted. At the time of buying altcoins, you have to aware which altcoins you are buying. Because all the altcoins will not provide you profit and it may the reason of losing your money.

I think the risk of investing in bitcoin is easier to measure than altcoins because of its large market cap and lots of good information about the future of bitcoin, and besides its growing popularity because it is more promising which makes it more trustworthy than altcoins.
and I personally do both but prioritize having more bitcoins for the long term and some altcoins for the short or medium term depending on the situation and need if needed, and I do some altcoin purchases just as an alternative when the bitcoin price is already high.

There is no right or wrong play in here given that what you observed isn’t a regular occurrence. Personally what I will do is to just hold altcoins on an amount I am comfortable with, and the rest goes to bitcoin. That’s what I’m currently doing, and is so far doing good in terms of gains and shared risk. You can never correctly predict and time the market, hence why it’s always best to spread your investments across different coins in order to minimize the risks that you might be taking on the volatility of crypto.

Bitcoin will be the first thing we should have and then altcoin because bitcoin can give us a big profit. Some people are trying to buy altcoin first then buy bitcoin because they think that with so many altcoins at the market, they can get huge profits from various coins and that profit can be in bitcoin forms. So that means it will be the same thing because, in the end, they will have bitcoin and be ready to sell at a high price.

But I suggest you buy bitcoin and altcoin to give you a chance to make more profit. It will depend on each people because I am sure that we have a different plan to make a profit.

Buying both of course is something that we must do, bitcoin has always been a measure of the price of altcoins so it is suitable to be the safest and most profitable long-term investment, while altcoins are the best opportunity for big profits in the short term, although today many altcoins continue to skyrocket such as BNB, Cardano and Ethereum.
Indeed. I agree with that. People should know how to use bitcoin and altcoin if they want to use them for their investment. Bitcoin will be a long-term investment and altcoin will be a short-term investment, but Bitcoin can also be a short-term investment depending on how the price moves. When we can use it properly, I am sure our profit will be bigger and we can buy many altcoins to be our short-term investment and not just BNB, Cardano, and Ethereum.

At first glance, it looks easy and very sweet, buys and profit. The real problem when we buy Alts is that few people (including me) are not able to analyze the quality of the price of the coin, sometimes we see a coin with such a large community, the development team looks professional and solid and the product service provided looks very good. But many coins like that sometimes trap our emotional game, high volatility and very unstable volume sometimes make our hands itchy to sell so easily when the price looks down sharply, then try to buy back below, but what happens then is the price getting down, and when it decided to leave, the coin bounced.

Bitcoin has always dominated the market, so of course the risk of investing in Bitcoin is lower than altcoins. So it is safer to invest in Bitcoin than
altcoins, especially if we are planning a long-term investment, Bitcoin is the best choice. Even altcoins price movements usually follow Bitcoin
price movements. Another advantage of Bitcoin is that if the price falls, it recovers faster than altcoins. Especially for beginners, it is better to focus
on investing in Bitcoin, because making a profit from Bitcoin is indeed easier than investing in altcoins. We just need to be patient waiting for
the Bitcoin price to reach the sell target we want.
The problem here is that when you have something that is low risk, then you usually have low reward with it as well and that is what some people are afraid of. I mean think about it this way, if you have two options, option A is either make 2x profit or lose 50% and option B make 10x profit or lose 90%, then which one would you pick? Many people pick option A which is bitcoin and that is why it is high ranked as well, I understand it and it is certainly something that we should promote, however there are some that pick option B as well, which is basically the option that is altcoins and very risky ones as well.

I have seen people invest into things that looked like scams just so that they could get in, make a ton of money and get out before the scam happens. So, altcoins are not that horrible for some people.

Of the two options you mentioned, I include those who chose option A, because I am not a person who likes to take risks to be able to generate
greater profits. I prefer investing in Bitcoin which is safer, although I know the profits are not great when compared to investing in altcoins.
I also respect people who choose option B, because maybe that person has experience and good analytical skills. So dare to take big risks,
to be able to generate big profits too. In the end everyone has a different decision, whatever decisions we make, we ourselves must bear
the consequences.

Bitcoin is the dominant currency among cryptocurrencies. In the long run, investing in it will be more profitable and will yield higher profits.
The market value of altcoins is still relatively small, generally following the rise and fall of the price of Bitcoin, but the fluctuation range will be greater than that of Bitcoin.
You can choose Bitcoin and relatively safe and reliable altcoin portfolio investment to reduce risks and loss of profits.

If you are thinking of choosing between altcoin and bitcoin, always prioritize bitcoin. The increase of altcoin is somehow based on bitcoin that's why when the price of bitcoin falls then the market goes down as well. So if you are looking for a long term investment then choose to invest in bitcoin but I am not telling to invest only in bitcoin, one asses is not good, you should also have some reservation or some investment in altcoins because there are still a lot of altcoin that is worth of investing.

These days seem to be better for making an altcoin investment. For example, Ethereum price reached a level over $3.8k today. Even though Bitcoin struggles to rise highly, Ethereum doesn't care about it and it moves on. However, Bitcoin price has finally broken three resistance levels respectively ($48k, $49k, $50k) again. It is also a very good choice to invest considering especially a long-term investment.

This approach might cease to behave as expected when the traded volume goes up. This is because the market cap of altcoins is usually much lower than that of bitcoin, making the exchange rate more sensitive to large trades.

Usually, altcoins increase and decrease more than Bitcoin does, because they have a smaller market cap.

To make thing clearer, when you increase the Bitcoin's market cap by buying it, you surely affect it less than you would with an altcoin, due to the market cap's difference. So you'll influence the price of an altcoin more than you will with Bitcoin, because the market cap will proportionately increase more.

It's riskier to invest in altcoins, because it's easier to manipulate their price.

In a bear market, altcoins fall faster than Bitcoin (ie Bitcoin dominance recovers somewhat but has to wait for the next bull market to go really high.)
This is just my own opinion, but I believe that the majority of the world wants Bitcoin and will get rid of their altcoins in a bear market to be wealth assured.

If you want to earn and invest in btc but do not really have the capacity to buy it for now, altcoin can be one of the best options to invest on. Altcoins are comparatively much volatile than btc so make sure you are always checking the chart. You can do spot trading and be a scalper to gain profit that can help you buy the desired amount you want on btc. You can also buy altcoins that show potential and hold it until it skyrocket.

Although remember that like what i previously said, altcoins are much volatile, meaning it possess higher risk if ever you want to invest on it. I agree with what you said that because altcoins has much smaller market cap, it's way too easy to manipulate unlike that of btc. You can still invest in both if you want to diversify your funds. Personally, i hodl btc and some altcoins that i think will soar in the future.

I don't think there is a clear-cut answer to this. BTC and ALT's occupy different spaces of investment and interest so it's not a matter of 'OR', but what your interest is and what you really support. Maybe I am coming from an idealistic point of view, but that's how I feel about it.

Most of the altcoins follow bitcoin rally and you could see it from the past and current market swings like if btc is going down most of them will go down as btc/usd is the most common trading pair and people convert it from altcoins. But usually bitcoin is the best coin available in the market other than any altcoins of small market cap whose prices can be easily manipulated and growth snd and survival chances are very less.

Yes, when bitcoin is going up at first during the bull run it goes up more than the altcoins and when it slows down, altcoins starts go up. It’s just like you have said. Maybe if you have enough money to invest in both, you can just do that, if having to sell is going to be unnecessary. Sometimes bitcoin can start going up after it goes down, that’s why it is good to Hodl it. I am very sure that a lot of people least expected bitcoin to increase again after the decrease. I am among people who felt that bitcoin wouldn’t be going up anytime soon, and I even thought that it will fall below that $30,000, but surprisingly there was a C-turn and we are back up again.

I still prefer to invest with bitcoin than altcoin because there is still hope that it will definitely get to $70k before the half of this month.

That's not a good mindset when it comes to investing money with bitcoin. Always try to be realistic. $70,00 by half of the month is a tough target.

You invest not because of that target but for long-term purposes. $70,000 will be reached soon but not hope for it to happen right away. I like your positivity but let's get there slowly but surely.

If you are not comfortable investing in altcoins, it's up to you but there's a gem too outside bitcoin if you will DYOR properly.

With regards to all the answers in the forum, bitcoin is seen to has more potentials than altcoins and is less volatile compared to altcoins. So there is no doubt that bitcoin is their top choice because aside from being the most profitable currency, its the most promising investment for now especially if you hodl it for long term.

But if we can have them both then why not. After all, its the profits that will matter the most. Bitcoin and altcoins are dominating the market and its prices are very impressive as they can be both profitable not just today but also in the near future.

You realize that very well, just like you said when the interest in the market when bitcoin started to increase was also the time to prepare for a period of money flowing from btc to alt, and it also increased, so sometimes people also feel satisfied when storing bitcoins. But that's how experienced people can increase their bitcoins quickly after a bull market.

Bitcoin, as I was unable to invest in altcoins earlier stage. Before, I was really investing in new coins because I could make more money than bitcoin in less than a month. Investing in their ICO is really great because it would be listed in exchange after a few weeks. But now that there are a lot of new coins, many of which are shitcoins, which are extremely risky, bitcoin is the better option.
Shitcoin or meme coin is not the right choice to invest because the risk is big,
if you want to be safe I think we can choose the top coins like Bitcoin, Ethereum and BNB,
obviously it all depends on everyone's choice
