Paper wallet. In the most specific sense, a paper wallet is a document containing all of the data necessary to generate any number of Bitcoin private keys, forming a wallet of keys.

Hi Guys
I know fully I can just go google this but I am asking here to just add some assurance that I'm not gonna download some fake wallet.

Can anyone please recommend a good place to get a paper wallet generator ? I've had some gains but will only be getting a hardware wallet later this month and its worth securing my funds properly for now.  I would like to know I am safe in the meantime though.
You should use wallet core on a computer that is not connected to the Internet or an external device, so it is safer to use a paper wallet generator from unofficial sources, considering that if you lose your private key will lose all Bitcoin in it!

Download the whole website. Go OFFLINE and create your wallet on a fresh install of Linux.

it is best to use a Live Linux instead of installing one when you want to create a paper wallet so that you just run that Linux from a DVD or something like that LIVE and then shut it down while making sure nothing stays (no persistence data).

You can use bitaddress.org

Though take note that making a paper wallet sure is easy, but it's going to be difficult for you to make one in a secure manner if you don't have much knowledge on making a secure air-gapped device for this purpose. If you're not sure how, just purchase a hardware wallet like the Trezor[1] or the Ledger Nano S[2] to save you from the potential headaches.

i have been using https://www.bitaddress.org for along time, i think it is secure and trusted.

Yes, Bitaddress is very turstful and safe wallet i used to had it. Now i am using Coin Space on my desktop and on my mobile phone. Very easy to use, on my iphone i can use my fingertips, this is the best way on safety i guess.. It has bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin and bitcoin cash wallets too. Here you can see: https://coin.space

You can either use bitaddress or walletgenerator.net. Download one of these websites first. Move them to a freshly installed linux machine without any internet connection. Generate the wallet. Write down your keys, double check your stuff, make sure you wrote it down correctly, format the device which you used to created the wallet.

That's it.

You can try it with an empty wallet first just to make sure of that if the downloaded website is giving the correct private key for the public address.

Then you do it with your real funds.

Alternatively, you can use the core wallet too. Same steps. No internet connection, freshly installed linux, move your core wallet from another computer you already had to your fresh PC, create the wallet, extract the priv keys, write them down.

To increase the security even further, make some modifications on the priv keys only you will be able to solve. So, if a thief steals your keys from your home, he probably won't be able to get the funds. You also need your keys, so make multiple copies and hide them in different places. One in your car, one in home etc...

Yes, there is always a threat if you are creating a paper wallet on any website, the best way I know and I am following it since long period is downloading the authenticate and reputed paper wallet generator from GitHub and transferring it to the old computer having no access to the internet and generating paper wallet on that computer and if possible then printing from the same computer. Make sure that the computer will never have any internet access directly or indirectly in the future.

Use BitAddress.org, then download the entire site and save it in your computer. It can still generate a Bitcoin wallet address for you while offline. Save the private keys. It is safe just like MyEtherwallet for ETH. Or you can download the Bitcoincore from Bitcoin.org then generate a Bitcoin address. Lastly you can buy a hardware wallet from Trezor or from Ledger Nano. These 3 options are the best ways to have a safe Bitcoin Address.

They are very cheap to generate. But generating a paper wallet printout safely is cumbersome. I use paper wallets but when hardware wallets start supporting monero I'll switchover.

P.s. a (paper)wallet can also be made of metal. I use punch letters on an aluminum sheet. Bit more water/fireproof.

Thanks, wasnt aware I can just do it like that.  On other paper wallets in the past ive been using generators specifically for that which would print it with a QR code etc.

In that case I can easily sort it out with Electrum, thanks mate. I am just really paranoid with these things about clicking on fake websites etc.

QR code is just another form of "representation". think of it as seeing the same word in different languages (English, French,...) this is the same. you see the private key in form of letters and numbers (base58) or in form of a set of dots on a square (QR).
the wallets i mentioned usually have a way of generating QR too. so if that's what you are looking for you still can use the same wallets.

Can anyone please recommend a good place to get a paper wallet generator ?

you could have used google then asked here whether the thing you have found was legit or not Wink
in any case paper wallet is not something special. it is actually very simple. a paper wallet is your private key printed on a piece of paper! now all the wallets that allow you to export your private key can be used to create a paper wallet.

for example use Electrum, bitcoin core, Armory, Multibit (although this is no longer being developed), .... and then create a new address. then export its private key and print it on a piece of paper. do all of this offline on a clean computer and you got yourself a paper wallet.

there are also tools such as bitaddress.org that are created for this purpose only. you can go to the website download the source from github, go to an offline clean computer and generate a new private key and print that.
