I'm looking at Bitcoin charts for the past few days and it looks like a straight flat line. I'm not sure whether to feel happy or sad about this but could this possibly be related to the fact that we now have bitcoin futures? Does this mean bitcoin volatility will be less?

It's not over and it won't ever last. Bitcoin's feature is being volatile in the market, either in downwards or in upwards. This speciality won't end in bitcoin. It will maintain the same.
The high volatility of bitcoin is not a feature of bitcoin is just a characteristic that is going to remain with bitcoin for quite a long time and the reason is simple, there is huge amount of money in the world and only a tiny part of that has entered in bitcoin, that makes bitcoin to be very susceptible to volatility also bitcoin is not a finished product it is constantly receiving updates and when you add politics to the mix then it is not difficult to understand why bitcoin price moves so much.
I will agree with this. Volatile its not a features, it is a characteristic of bitcoin it self as decentralization.
This is not a period, all affected by demand volume in market. It's not end yet, as i seen it just started. By this volatile some trader earn short profit on trading market.

If the government intervened in bitcoins I think that could be a big problem to its volatility. The fact that more and more investors are coming to bitcoin.

I think everyone of us is just opportunists waiting for bitcoins market value to reach 100k or more. Volatility is one that have been holding that dream for us. lol
Nobody will accept fixed values because everyone here I in search of making money faster and all this will done in good way as well by bitcoin and its volatility is giving people more and more daily so no one will be investing in bitcoin if it get stabilized and more of it bitcoin will not get the investor response so investor community is happy with its present state and it gives more, permanent as well as opportunist are also happy.

Bitcoin's price has only been stable at around the $16,000-$17,000 price mark for only like 4 days. Bitcoin's price has been stable for longer than that in the past. The volatility is definitely not over, and is FAR from over. Also, bitcoin futures will definitely make bitcoin a lot more volatile in my opinion. There's going to be bigger whales that could affect bitcoin's price.

You are definitely right, this is not the end, we are only getting started. If you see the past charts of Bitcoin's progresses it has steady price for how many years and didn't even bother moving an inch. Now we see how it rose up and and fall's down and rose again. Volatility is something that Bitcoin will never get rid off unless it would have a permanent value in a world wide agreement.
Yeah volatility will never meets its end and the rise of price is just because of volatility and the blessing of bitcoin are mostly depending on volatility and if bitcoin get permanent value in whole world then there will be no more investors and no more profit and all I want to tell is that people don’t like stable investment now they want to earn money faster and volatility bring huge money to their courts to enjoy.

The volatility is not yet over on till bitcoin has reach its real value and that is an indication that volatility is not yet over on till bitcoin reaches its real value and the adoption is worldwide.
Who will determine the true value of Bitcoin, Bitcoin maybe worth it. I think Bitcoin's fixed price like this is pretty good for real investors, but negative effect for opportunists.

The volatility will diminish from time to time, but in my view we are way too early in this exponential curve to expect price stability, especially with the smart money pouring in. We will see massive moves in the coming weeks and months in both directions. Investors should expect a rocky road.
Bitcoin is progressing with speed of light and in very short time it has achieved much more. People are happy to get bitcoin in their lives because they were also in search of ease and comfort. Bitcoin is still trying to grab the attention of more investors so to raise its worth.

Its price fluctuates and nobody can predict its price whether to go up or down but one thing to be noted is that after each fall it has raised much and crossed the past worth.

I see no such thing as a straight line, though it depends on how to look. I analyze the line in 2 hours and see the spread from 18700-18900, it's a bit but obviously not direct. So volatility will not get anywhere from it, it's inseparable friends of all crypto currency.

We should look the bright side of bitcoin. it will go higher as soon as possible.it will pump in upcoming weeks. let's be good to alts right now. the volatility is not yet over expect more surprises.

Exactly volatility is far from over and the only thing which is constant in bitcoin and crypto currency world is change as things can change in spur of moment but we need to be really prepared to cope up with dumps and pumps as most of us still end up selling the funds when we go through the price pump and end upwelling all only to regret after somedays when things are back to normal and value surges so let's be smart and under3 the way crypto world works
It is possible that the price will continue to rise for the upcoming years. For me, as long as not all people in the world are into earning bitcoin, there will still be room for volatility. These recent changes in the price was caused by investors so if there will be more investors in the future, the price of bitcoin will surely hit another value. The volatility will not stop as it is related with the demand of bitcoin and bitcoin is decentralized, no one when there will be end for supply of bitcoin.

I don't think this is an indication that the price will now be stable, bitcoin has done this many times before and will cotinue to hover before moving heavily again.

The futures may play a part in the bitcoin price but I don't think it will slow it down to becoming stable.

This recent upward trend reminds me of the May-June-July market.  Increased media attention. 'Old' well established financial companies are implementing Bitcoin into their business.  A rush of new ICO's promising you wealth simultaneously begging for your money.  New alternative currencies coming out of nowhere to be market cap juggernauts.

Volatility has reduced? I do not think so. Come on, man volatility is one of the key features of bitcoin, it usually stays high. Bitcoin future's is not directly linked to bitcoin, the futures are a financial instrument which means that the investors won't be holding bitcoin, rather they'd be holding a financial instrument which mentions so and so details. The volatility anyhow will be much higher this two weeks because one the reason is the CME listing and the other is that Christmas is near, people want to cash out and go for a vacation.

It is still early to tell if the volatility of bitcoin has settled. Every day new investors come and try to invest their money in bitcoins. As long as trading is there, the volatility of it will not stop.
Yes it is too early for saying that, volatility always presents in bitcoin market. I cant really say it is over everytime, daily price is volatile it may down little and up fast. Bitcoin will continue of spiking I guess.

I don't think so. One can only suggest btc is passed volatility stage come the end of 2017. As at this evening, the price remains $19,356 which can actually go up or down depending on where volatility storm is bending it to.

For now yes, recently there are big buying to gained thr free fork coin, and after that there was a huge selling and the price fall down, but flat line is only temporary, traders and investors will start to invest again and we will see another volatility, volatility is the part of bitcoin so it will never over
Its still early for this fluctuations to ends up, as traders and investors loves what they are seeing and taking advantage of this market movements,
many things can happen so we can't really assess whether its already done or just starting all over again.

Period of volatility for bitcoins will never vanished as bitcoin price is merely depending of trading volume there is in market bitcoin price is still risky and as it goes up the risk increase because even more people want to buy bitcoins for hodling time would come and there would be very little buyers already due to huge value.

Bitcoin is now at 19k, since you are relatively new to the community one thing you need to understand is that we cannot claim that bitcoin has become stable after a few days also if you look at the amount of people currently in bitcoin and at the potential market that bitcoin has then it is very easy to see that bitcoin is not going to become stable in decades.

Bitcoin volatility will never be over.Only it could get reduced to some extent in future.
I think so too because bitcoin has lots of traders making money from this the period of volatility just might be far from being over unless people start to hodl longer this should normalize.

Quote
There would be always a variation in the demand for bitcoins which would make its price volatile. The entry of institutional firms may lessen the volatile.Bitcoin futures price will not directly affect bitcoin price.
i dont think variations from demand lead to this but having institutional firms/investors should fix this problem.

It's not over and it won't ever last. Bitcoin's feature is being volatile in the market, either in downwards or in upwards. This speciality won't end in bitcoin. It will maintain the same.

I think current volatility will not last forever and fluctuations in bitcoin price will be less. It will happen when all the people know it and any business accept it.

Are you out of your mind?
Do you really think this is a stable price?
It had been moving for hundreds of dollars and that is stable for you?

Do you know how much it is worth for other countries?

it will happen if everyone just holds their bitcoin, and the amount of bitcoin has reached its limit so there is no buying and selling transaction. But the reality is not everyone can survive to seep up his profit. Of the total bitcoin, maybe less than half that hold on hold, while the rest is always in trade. Therefore, Volatility will continue to occur.

Looks like volility is back with a bang. The price is $18,699 - about $2000 higher than it was yesterday.

Who knows where this is going to end. Bitstamp reported it is signing up 100,000 new users a day, and Coinbase and the others are doing the same. All those new users are buying. There are some old hands selling, but they're not enough to push down the price.

Volatility is even more as compared to the past, have you ever seen a price fall and recovery of about $3000 in a single day before this Nov-Dec?. As the price is increasing more the uncertainty is also rising higher.
Well the volatily is never going to end, the beauty of bitcoin is its price volatility which attract users/traders to get involve.

It's not going to stay this stable for long.

Right now the price goes without saying is extremely stable for the past week or so, mainly floating around $16-17k. So not really a lot there for the traders for the past week, mostly sideways movement and when a pump comes it is suppressed by a dump, and vice versa.

I think this will change. Especially after the new year, this stability will cease and we'll probably go on another huge run to at least $25k or potentially even more. Then it'll be up to the market to decide whether they want to dump or keep this rally going.

I dont think so, maybe theres something to do with people still holding their btc or the big whales is behind these. Neverthless Bitcoin's volatility will never end or atleast lessen unless all of the supply is mined. Normally we see Bitcoin's price drop after the pump but from the past days it does ,but only a little like $1,000+ only, almost stable at this period.  What does this mean? Are we seeing another huge price increase again next week? It maybe possible, we're approaching the last week before christmas.

In my opinion, Bitcoin's volatility is not yet over, the whales are probably just taking a break due to the upcoming holiday season. Due to this resting/consolidation phase, there are so many FUDs spreading like wildfire all over social media right now. This could be an opportunity for every one of us to buy at a lower price before it takes off to the moon by Q1 2018.

volatility in crypto wont be over because crypto is meant and worked that way however bitcoin is kinda stable in the past few days maybe this is because of the correction but sooner or later bitcoin will again become unstable. the only thing that can stop the volatility is i guess  if bitcoin will become centralized. yet if bitcoin will be less or none volatile then investors and traders wont  earn much more income out of it, thats why i still prefer the bitcoin to be volatile forever if possible.

I'm looking at Bitcoin charts for the past few days and it looks like a straight flat line. I'm not sure whether to feel happy or sad about this but could this possibly be related to the fact that we now have bitcoin futures? Does this mean bitcoin volatility will be less?

The past few days? That's nothing. You could have said the same thing the week of November 16th to November 23rd -- a week of sideways. Immediately afterwards, the price pumped from $8,000 to $17,000. It seems like the same thing here: the calm before the storm. This 4-day consolidation is the longest sideways we've seen in a month.

In a trend, the longer the consolidation goes, the higher the price can go after we break range. Given the velocity of the parabolic trend, now that we've broken new ATHs, another 50% move seem imminent. Bulls just need to confirm support at the previous highs.

Regardless of anything, volatility is only going to increase. This is a parabolic trend, and afterwards comes the blow-off top. Trends in both directions will be highly volatile for the foreseeable future.

I think we will have more volatility because of whales who will bet against market trend in bitcoin future.

Price is at constant level for last few days but this can be sign of uncertainty among traders or good entry point for newbie investors.

I think market is still bullish and expecting atleast $25k before end of this year.

Bitcoin is the volatile is nature. Here every forum member knows that so I don't understand why you people discuss about the unnecessarily. If you find to invest means put it on bitcoin as well. You will have more time to take investment like an year or something means you will find the profit for sure. This volatility only defines the market place profit and looses.

When the days of volatility gets over surely bitcoin will loss its importance. Because at present just depending on the volatility people are much interested into bitcoin. When the volatility decreases, automatically people won't get opportunities to earn. When there is less earning access gradually the usage will decrease.

The effect of the Bitcoin Futures is still very small. The volatility will decrease over time, but the party is not over yet.
Right now there may be a good mix between the others that think it's time to cash in and the others thinking that it's still a good time to invest, especially because of the news about the futures.
There's a good chance that "any moment now" to have a big correction or a jump to 20-22k. And there's a good chance to have a flat line for months (although I don't really believe that).

How can we say the volatility is over after four days of stable price, still bitcoin is highly volatility any change in the demand will make the price movement.Bitcoin price will increase more in the future but we can't exactly when  it will rise and how much of price bump will occur.

I think bitcoin volatility in price will never over due to its limited amount so we have to make use of this volatility by buy low and sell high.

The volatile will be less because of the bitcoin futures and this is happening because professionals has started entry into crypto currencies! We should not get panic at all as this good for any healthy market. Bitcoin futures trade is going to stabilize bitcoin price fluctuations to a large extend and dumping may not likely happen as we see before.

We should certainly be very worrried indeed for btc and crypto in general as this Wall Street certified futures scam will put a ceiling on crypto prices in a similar way that they’ve successfully suppressed the gold market.

not necessarily less volatility but it certainly has shrank but it has nothing to do with this period that you are seeing. right now it is either an accumulation phase or a phase where most people are uncertain and don't know what to do because price has gone up a lot but it also had lots of corrections.
this means many may be waiting to see which way bitcoin is going to go before they make their next decision. for example if they see it broke out and started to rise then they will buy, and if it broke below the resistance and started to drop they will sell.

volatility is not over yet and will not happen this year or few years later on,
because volatility is part of the game and the charachter of Bitcoin itself, also because of that many people using it to do the trade.

no matter what will happen with it,like a listing on future's or something similiar to that thing,
it will not change the fact that we're not doing a real 'trade' on those future's but instead we're trading the 'instrument'.
which mean there'll be a day when we're seeing a huge movement,
it's all due to limited supply that Bitcoin has and at the same time the demand that keep increasing from time to time.

in other words, the volatility will not stop and will always find it way to make its move.

Nah. Bitcoin has never been truly stable, and I don't think futures trading can cause that drastic of an effect, especially in its first week. If anything, futures trading would introduce more volatility. I imagine more market movement, with traders going in and out is going to actually increase volatility. We'll see. Either way, people overestimating futures trading effects seem to be a current trend. All I really see is that it brings in more demand, and brings Bitcoin a step closer to ETFs.

I agree, its seems that when CME officially starts, the volatility is reduced to at extend although there are price daily price swings, but I noticed that the price would go on a flat line at the range mentioned above. But make no mistakes, this relatively slow lessened volatility will just be temporary. I can't see for certain though is this bitcoin futures contracts will make bitcoin more volatile, but we can at least factor them as far as where the price is going because right now they are really the main driver behind the current upward trend.

I'm looking at Bitcoin charts for the past few days and it looks like a straight flat line. I'm not sure whether to feel happy or sad about this but could this possibly be related to the fact that we now have bitcoin futures? Does this mean bitcoin volatility will be less?

As long as the whole world is not yet jumping into the bitcoin world volatility won't be over. Though this past few weeks bitcoin's price become quite stable, it doesn't mean volatility is over. And I'm sure, this coming weeks, or after Christmas, I'm expecting a big rise on bitcoin's price.
Well a lot of people are already flocking into the market, but I'm sure that there are still waiting to get through though. Bitcoin features includes is high volatility so I really doubt that it is over. And remember that it purely based on speculation, that alone its an ingredient in seeing the price being unstable as long as it exist.

BITCOINS future aren't even introduced yet thus why to blame them? Also this flat line that you are talking about is just a matter of some days .. you can say the volatility is over if this continues for over a month or so... Just some days can't ensure that something has happened to the system.

Also volatility played both good and bad part as far as the good part is concerned we were abld to invest during the downs and gain higher profits then again sometimes the bubble when it brusted then the sudden drop in price made some investors to fly away.. and also if someone cashed out then ... It was preety harsh... On their wallets seeing the price right now...

The volatility will diminish from time to time, but in my view we are way too early in this exponential curve to expect price stability, especially with the smart money pouring in. We will see massive moves in the coming weeks and months in both directions. Investors should expect a rocky road.

Bitcoin entering into some stock markets in the USA will give it more popularity and stability. but i think it will increase further.
it will attract new investors from the stock market as well.

The bitcoin futures market currently has high margin requirements that are keeping a lot of investors away. Regulators have noticed Bitcoin's volatility and are probably trying to prevent the bubble cycle that is usually triggered in part by futures trading.

The volatility is not over, this is certain! We have period of slower trading due to a number of facts with the most important being that we are waiting for the 20th and the futures market. Investors aren't sure how the market will take it and aren't willing to put huge money in before there are some visible changes on the charts.
