This is a remarkable and historical event for this great cryptocurrency - Bitcoin. Currently, in my area, no restaurants accept Bitcoin for payment for Pizza. However, this celebration is an opportunity to recall some other memorable events about Bitcoin, the cryptocurrency that have made a landmark in the financial system of the world.

On January 2009: Nakamoto creates 50 BTC and transfers 10 to Hal Finney, an early Bitcoin adopter.

On May 2010: Laszlo Hanyecz makes the first real world Bitcoin transaction. The crypto enthusiast paid 10,000 BTC for two large pizzas in what's now regarded as the first real world Bitcoin transaction . Back then, 10,000 BTC was worth around $40. He never knew that May 22 would forever be celebrated as Bitcoin pizza day.

On July 2010: Bitcoin starts trading. By the end of the year, 1 BTC was worth around $0.80. A run down of some remarkable events can be seen here: (https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/celebrating-bitcoin-pizza-day%3A-a-%24300-million-dinner). Basically, Bitcoin have impacted the financial system of the world.

I think it's clear why businesses want to ACCEPT bitcoin... what we need are folks finding reasons to SPEND bitcoin.

So instead of focusing on a new business accepting bitcoin, try to find ways to have places you shop currently know that you would like to SPEND bitcoin there.

Would a bitcoin discount,  or a bitcoin rewards program incentivize you to start doing this?

If you can’t find a restaurant that accepts payment in BTC, try to get a restaurant owner who would be interested in crypto. If you happen to find a Bitcoin enthusiast they would totally love to get funded through a pizza delivery. I think that will be the best way to celebrate Bitcoin pizza day.

If I ever open a shop in my neighborhood this is the first thing I advertised outside the door of my shop to further promote bitcoins in our city since it is already known here, it's better to light things up even more by doing such things because it may be the first step to push the other stores and shops to do so as well. Right now we are in the era of promoting bitcoin so that it might become one of the official currencies all around the world with less volatility and as an enthusiast you can also help on your own way.

The easiest thing everyone can do is when they are cashing out, simply ask "may I pay using the bitcoin lightning network?"

If customers don't ask, businesses jave no reason to start.

Now you also have to be ready to spend... which most folks aren't.

This pizza day was unique one, it was celebrated every year to remember the value of bitcoin now and then. And we should not loss it at any concern. Holding your bitcoin to the next will gives you huge. This was the symbolic representation of the bitcoin day. Instead of making huge concise over the people, people should have huge concise over the bitcoin.
Maybe some time need to remember with bitcoin pizza days because become good experience for the future keep holding several assets from bitcoin and never all in for selling. If still see by the people who sell their bitcoin to buy pizza maybe he got bad memorize and try can get back his bitcoin, most disappointed if not selling bitcoin and converted with pizza maybe he can get all pizza store around the world right now and have much money.

It's an important historical event where it became one of the crucial reasons why we have bitcoins circulated all over the world today. of course it was a great sacrifice by the Pizza guy but the event that occurred that year was really needed in order for us to learn how possible it is to have this secured digital money and we made clear that it is possible to do so until we have proven it for the past years and here we are right now ripping the fruit of their sacrifices and taking advantage to the flow of the crypto market.

Happy bitcoin 12th pizza day everyone. Today I also ate a pizza like Laszlo Hanyecz ate on this day in 2010 But I paid in fiat currency czz  Roll Eyes Who knows if BTC of four dollars becomes 30 thousand dollars again. Grin
These are the two pizza"s which cost 10000 BTC, and that current market value of about 298987000$  Cry

You would think 12 years later we would be able to have the option to pay directly for the pie with bitcoin by now.
Oh well.
We atleast can purchase giftcards (as many have mentioned from bitrefill) or load the bitcoin on to a crypto debit card to be able to buy the slices instead.
Still not the same but it is only the beginning.. a decade later.
More innovated ways might be needed for a more mainstream solution.

What are your plans for bitcoin pizza day this year?

Bummer that it falls on a Sunday!

I've only got 3 restaurants that accept bitcoin lightning network in my area and all three are closed on Sundays... Sad

However, Tuesday, I am planning a get together in Brecksville, Ohio at Juice Lab.

8215 Chippewa Rd, Brecksville, OH 44141

https://www.facebook.com/events/773334983654515/?sfnsn=mo

If you're interested in ordering and paying using the bitcoin lightning network, the owner, Dom will accept payment.

It's been about a year since I first used the lightning network at Juice Lab, so perhaps we can call Tuesday "Bitcoin Juice Day," haha.

Happy early bitcoin pizza day!

I kinda wish we were still in those days of BTC Smiley the simple times. I'd go for some pizza if there was an option for crypto payment, but I also wish restaurants would do a one off every year if they can have a regular option for crypto payments. That would be a nice start.

If happens, it will be a great even on the forum.

I would like to forget about it, the biggest mistake in my life. I don't want to talk about it in rest of my life if I was lazlo
Mate, this was not a mistake and Lazlo himself doesn't consider it as the biggest mistake of his life. I have watched his interview and he said he's not regretting his actions. He has embedded his name in bitcoin as long as bitcoin lasts, as the first man to make a bitcoin transaction.
Also consider this;
As at when Lazlo bought his pizza, btc was worth about $0.004 and 10,000 of it should be about $41. So, it still easy for anyone to buy two pizzas with $41. Even if he didn't spend it for pizza, eventually he would have blown it on other things.

2010 (May 22) $0.004
2012 $5
2014 $450
2016 $450
2018 $9000
2020 $9000
2022 $30000

Great chart! Hope it's right. We'll see if the trend continues...

Be ready to hold 2+ years before we break above 30k?

The first 4 years (22 May, 2010 - 22 May, 2014) brought ca 100000 times rise (0,79% per day),
the second 4 years (22 May, 2014 - 22 May, 2018) brought ca 20 times rise (0,21% per day),
the last 4 years (22 May, 2018 - 22 May, 2022) brought ca 3 times rise (0,08% per day).

in my area there are no shops/restaurants that accept bitcoin as direct payment. but that's not a problem for me. because today I have sold a little bit of my bitcoin and and then exchanged it for money. and will buy food such as pizza and the like for small parties with the family. and of course I will slip education about bitcoin to the family on this bitcoin pizza day. because my family has started to be interested in bitcoin. this is happiness when one family together holding bitcoin Roll Eyes
If there are no shops/restaurants that accept Bitcoin as payment in your geographical area, you can still save yourself some stress by buying Giftcard Domino or other food outlets through Bitrefill, CoinGate, etc.
However, telling your family more about Bitcoin on a day like this will be an incredible idea since Bitcoin Pizza day is something that every BTC enthusiast will always remember for generations.

As someone from New York I think all chain pizza is not real pizza you can get some pizza gift cards from Bitrefill tomorrow and get 50% sats back.
But then you have to eat something that is only vaguely pizza like. As opposed to real pizza.

Same as I've been doing for the last 4-5 years, gonna bake my own bitcoin themed pizza. That is, If I have enough time. Worst case scenario is just ordering the pizza, but its not the same thing as making your own.
Definitely, this is one of the reasons Bitcoin has continued to remain relevant in spite of the negative press on its back. We've got so much love for this phenomenon and its creator, the maverick Satoshi. Your idea and practice to mark this day has given me an idea too. I hope to do something similar next year. Felicitations to all who has love for Bitcoin. Greater felicitations to Laszlo Hanyecz for making today a possibility.

Happy Pizza Day everyone.

For some reason, it seems to me that this year all the holidays in honor of bitcoin are not very successful. At a minimum, due to a significant fall in the exchange rate, and as a result, many simply lost part of their money.

Every years celebrate with Pizza day I don't think how feeling by some one have sold their bitcoin to buy pizza, better about celebrate bitcoin pizza days not with not really remember again. I know how disappointed we are when selling altcoin and later price pump drastically, maybe this fell by some one have sold bitcoin with bigger amount to buy Pizza, maybe if try selling bitcoin nowadays he can purchase all Pizza store around the world not only get one part of Pizza only.

I think he sold not regret his decision because at that time no one would have thought that bitcoin could reach over 60K and plus. Even if he had not bought the pizza that time, he would have spent his coins somewhere else. It's not ready to hold bitcoin for 10+ years when no one was aware of bitcoin in those times.
The good thing is that due to his act of buying pizza with bitcoin, he become too much famous and he will always be remembered.  Smiley

He used bitcoin for his purposes and will have no regrets here, no one would have thought that the price of bitcoin would be as high as it is today even Satoshi. All the amazing things that bitcoin has done for our world.

If you want to talk about regret, let's talk about people who bought bitcoins and lost their private keys in a landfill. They cannot see and use the bitcoin they consider worthless and throw them away.

Interesting to see pizza day in a day in the bitcoin bearish phase and the price falling so some newbies were doing panic selling at lower prices while they can hold and all they need to do is to be patient and don't fall into the emotional trap just like happened on the pizza day. The guy who owned this amount of bitcoins and sold bitcoins because he didn't truly leave on it and couldn't hold it, I believe a few years later when the price reached much higher price the people who sold their asset at price will have the same feelings of the guy who traded bitcoins for a pizza.

Laszlo is quoted saying "To be fair, the pizzas were pretty good." Haha, so I think he has no regrets!
Also, it is important to note that Lsszlo didn't buy pizzas with bitcoin because he couldn't hold bitcoin or he was afraid, but because he wanted to prove that if you can buy food with bitcoin, its as good as any other money. And he indeed proved that

Thats it, its a landmark event more because of this rather than what others think was an
exorbitant amount of Bitcoin to pay for Pizza.
That's true, and this is indeed enough to be a consolation in losing the middle market like this even though this is indeed something that is risky for some people but there are still many people who still commemorate this and this is very good to celebrate with joy

Even this person is willing to be a pizza seller in a day Cheesy

As at when Lazlo bought his pizza, btc was worth about $0.004 and 10,000 of it should be about $41. So, it still easy for anyone to buy two pizzas with $41. Even if he didn't spend it for pizza, eventually he would have blown it on other things.
He's very proud to have a famous record by purchasing 2 pizzas when Bitcoin was still new.

I can understand people might have an assumption he might regret it.
And to avoid regretting it, we can easily select a good strategy:
For Bitcoin spendings, it's always good practise to save some BTC for HODL and to use some BTC for purchase.
Keep it in a different wallet.
One for purchase, one for HODL.

It will help to have a good saving and store of value for personal money management.  Smiley

Bummer that it falls on a Sunday!

I've only got 3 restaurants that accept bitcoin lightning network in my area and all three are closed on Sundays... Sad
I usually end up buying 20 bucks worth of bitcoin a day, that is more than enough for a random day to be fair, because it is just one thing that we all know of but the reality is that there must have been plenty like that. People need to realize that all those times when bitcoin worth tiny cents there were tons of transactions as well.

I remember back in the day we paid under 1 dollar transaction fees and it was still like 0.01 bitcoin or so, and that was nothing, today the same amount worths about 300+ dollars, if we were to spend the same amount of bitcoin. Of course we do not spend that much anymore but that is thanks to dropping the fee in bitcoin too.

I'm "old enough" to remembet when blocks weren't full and we processed zero fee transactions,  haha.

Also consider this;
As at when Lazlo bought his pizza, btc was worth about $0.004 and 10,000 of it should be about $41. So, it still easy for anyone to buy two pizzas with $41. Even if he didn't spend it for pizza, eventually he would have blown it on other things.
Maybe the 10000 bitcoins might've gone for some other purpose or as a donation. As he made the transaction for pizza it have got added to the history. Another thing he could've got more number of bitcoins, if not one will not go for such a plan of buying pizza with bitcoin. He mentioned in the interview in a cool way that someone paid with their credit card and it delivered to him.

Could anyone of us, the admin, moderators or staff make some efforts to have Laszlo visit us once every year? Most appropriately on the bitcoin pizza day. I believe his account wasn't blocked and he wasn't as anonymous as Satoshi. I said this because the pizza was delivered to his house, if that be his permanent house, his address is known.
He could be contacted to make us feel great once again in this forum.

A historical post from Mr. Bitcoin Pizza is there: Pizza for bitcoins?

Personally, I feel we should give him peace. I can not say on behalf of him but if I was him, I would like to forget about it, the biggest mistake in my life. I don't want to talk about it in rest of my life if I was lazlo

It should be celebrated on a weekend right on a Sunday where family gathering with delicious pizza dishes will certainly make people happy and I will tell they how Laszlo bought pizza 12 years ago so cheaply but if this happens now it's something very amazing.

I'll forget the bitcoin price dropped Cheesy, right on this sunday should be my happy day with pizza passing by.

Bitcoin day celebration. I seen it like celebration that supposed to happen between the people who has bitcoin for long volume. And the celebration is not people that have no good quality of Bitcoin in wallet. But the celebration the way am seeing is like memory of the first thing Bitcoin is being used to buy after it small noticeable by the people. If I'm opportune ti see people who have Bitcoin like fiat money i will convince the person to invest more for bitcoins so that through Bitcoin pizza celebration i will be among of the family of Bitcoin pizza celebration

However, Tuesday, I am planning a get together in Brecksville, Ohio at Juice Lab.
At least you were able to find a crypto meetup near your location [I couldn't find a single event near my place, so I'm stuck with what I've been doing in the past few years (ordering a pizza and using ketchup to decorate it with BPD-related stuff].

For those who mentioned not being able to pay with BTCitcoin because of the limited options, perhaps you can at least try paying for it in an indirect manner [e.g. Bitrefill].

haha, I'm running the meetup... we'll see if anyone shows... as you can see there's one person "attending" right now, haha...

Each year, we have a Bitcoin pizza day and around this event, the market usually is not good.

It is unexplainable on my side but I think history has its power and most of the crowd obssessed and affected by history bull or bear. Keep it in my for Bitcoin movement next days and coming weeks. In order to rally, Bitcoin need to break out of the falling wedge and to have it, massive volume must come.

Now there is no massive volume and if it continues, price will fall more, very likely.

It's great that you are having this event in honor of the famous Bitcoin pizza purchase. Somehow it made the ball rolling for Bitcoin. So it is really worth commemorating. That's a great day to look back in Bitcoin's history, and Laszlo is like a hero. So even if it's just juice or whatever, it's still nice remembering and honoring the day and the man.

I'm not sure if there is something like this happening in my area. There's probably none. Regardless, perhaps a cheers for Laszlo will do.

If I had my own pizzeria, I would run something like an advertising campaign using bitcoin's theme that day. I would offer customers a pizza with a design similar to yours (that is, using bitcoin logo and a similar theme) with the option to pay only in BTC. A small bonus to bitcoin connoisseurs who know about this significant day for this community.
None of the pizzeria chains thought of this?
None that I know of and that's just tells you how far away are we from mass adoption. Looking at the bright side of that, it means that we are still early. Smiley

It’s good guys, those who has opportunity to celebrate Do it and share the pizza vibes on forum. Frankly, fast food chains like Dominos, Pizza Hut or papa John’s pizza should give options like this, they have the potential really.

Would it be a good idea If you guys could actually make a photo about something for the pizza day, like slicing the pizza into BTC shape or your transaction receipt/bill indicating that you paid Btc for a dinner and then post it right on this thread on Sunday?
Sounds fun right? Lol.

I might gonna spend a small fraction for a Pizza but unfortunately no Pizza store or a merchant who accepts Bitcoin in this small town where I am situated.

Adding memory to my life connective to the pizza day I've planned to buy a pizza and enjoy the evening with my family. The Pizza Corner from which I've planned to buy Pizza doesn't have bitcoin acceptance. Hope the small memories we add tagging #Pizzaday will make people look for what is pizza day. Even my girl doesn't know about it, I take this a right time to give her a detailed story about the incident that happened years back.
tagging #pizzaday will be trending on sundays but sadly pizzerias will be closed on sundays but some may still be open, even though pizza day is only celebrated every year but surely people will know the explanation of pizza day and in the end many people will know about Bitcoin too.

But obviously, I can't used by Bitcoin though, as no one is accepting it at my place, although there are a lot of crypto enthusiast in my country, they are not ready to have Bitcoin as a payment options.

Nothing much. Maybe just pizza snack with fam, good time its a feast on my place on that day since there's no pizza store that accept bitcoin or crypto here in my area.
be happy, you can enjoy pizza by paying with bitcoin, because until now in my country it will be difficult to find a place that can accept payments with bitcoin, because bitcoin is not allowed to be used in general to be used as a legal payment. if you want to buy pizza and the like then you can first exchange it with fiat. it's still quite a hassle but it's still tolerable that bitcoin exchange is not banned.

Pizza day for bitcoin falling on a Sunday makes it difficult to find a place that accepts it to purchase your favorite slice so to commemorate the day.
If you happen to lightning network certainly makes it easier. Will make it just be as fast as paying it by credit card.

Wonder what the owner of that Papa Johns did with all those bitcoins.
HODL the majority or probably cashed out alot of them by now.

Lightning network is several days faster than credit card.  It takes days for credit card payments to make it to the merchant... lightning bitcoin can be used instantly like cash, but digital!

Let's remind everyone how BPD went down in 2010... Laszlo, in Florida sent 10,000 bitcoin to someone in Europe. That person in Europe called Papa Johns in FLA and had pizzas delivered to Laszlo.

The person in Europe has said they gave many away trying to get folks to use them.

It's been about a year since I first used the lightning network at Juice Lab, so perhaps we can call Tuesday "Bitcoin Juice Day," haha.

Happy early bitcoin pizza day!
No joke man, I will love to see Bitcoin juice day being celebrated in the future, at least if you can locate any coffee shop that accepts Bitcoin around your vicinity you are free.to use Bitcoin to pay for any available commodity using the bitcoin lightning network, and paying for a cup of juice with Bitcoin will be awesome the most important point is paying with Bitcoin.

It's a very extraordinary thing yes if everything can be paid for with bitcoin.
If you want to buy food you can use bitcoin as well as maybe in the future you can buy drinking water with bitcoin.
But unfortunately in my place there is no one who wants to pay with bitcoin, maybe those who know bitcoin may still be 40%.
