I thought Bitcoin Police already existed, and were/are a complete joke?

You should start the Bitcoin FBI, and whenever SomeoneWeird / other Bitcoin Police show up to a crime scene, you can move in and say:

"We're the Bitcoin FBI, we'll handle it from here. You don't have jurisdiction"

-Jonathan

I know I'm bumping this, but wow. really?

I had in mind a board that has statements

Then people post evidence for and against the statement. Then people can decide what they believe.

For example my statement could be:

MtGox doesn't have a brick and mortar

Then someone could post evidence:

I drove to mtgox's brick and mortar and here are photographs
That's a great idea!

When a scammer is listed anyone with common sense wont deal with that person.

Youd have to be very careful about building a rep board.

Positive feedback must be easier to give than negative, use google ID servicesso reduce fake accounts. extended information on accusations followed by a chance to respond before any negative feedback.

It can be done. Forget bitcoin police its a rep board. Anyone who deals with a newcomer and gets scammed should maybe also get rewarded with some positive rep "taking one for the team" and all that haha.

Not sure. throwing more ideas in your pot there Smiley
By the way, this is what I would want to help with. The rep board idea. Though, I realize these already exist for bitcoin, I think we could make it better.

First I will your heart is in the right place, but your ideals are not based in reality. First who are you going to hire to be the bitcoin police? Pst a message a 4chan to see if Anonymous will help?

Remember their friends are hanging from bridges in Mexico with broken necks at this very moment. You start outing people who have 100,000 wallets/networks/Mtgox accounts and post their details on the net I'd be looking over my back.

Need a programmer? I've got some other projects I'm working on right now, but I could spare some time for this if anyone's serious about it.

And when everyone is unsure about something, (or sure it is a scam but can't prove it) then they can start posting a BTC bounty to whoever gets proof of scam or not. (like phoning business' listed numbers, visiting alleged addresses etc)

I assume you are being snide?

Ah, no.  Of course not.  It's your idea.  Build it and we shall come.

Haha no no Tongue

I just meant if there was a dedicated portal there would be one central reference to go to. It could be more easy to sort and catalogue, and it would encourage more innovative ways of thinking about trust in our community.

By the way I had no idea these forums were so harsh.

And how will your bitcoin police work that is any different to the forum members here exposing scammers? What facilities do you propose to have that will improve on this?

Once a scammer is outed, what is next? A bitcoin arrest? Followed by a bitcoin trial in a bitcoin court? Followed by bitcoin prison?

I am brainstorming. A dedicated forum would be okay, but a custom portal would be better.

It would have to be pretty much evidence based though, obviously shills and such would inhabit it.

Any similar projects?
