Hahaha. In all seriousness, though, I'd like to get something like this happening. It would be pretty awesome. ^_^

ChumCoin

Side story idea for Pawn Stars. Chumlee sets up a mining operation in some forgotten room at the pawn shop, and was discovered because of an increase in the electric bill. The old man kept hearing a humming sound, but everyone just claimed he was going senile.

We all know that a lot of the side stories are faked/scripted. They might as well make them as unreal as possible, thus creating a new genre--pseudo-reality.

I love American Pickers, but the side stories that are incorporated in them as so make-believe. I've even noticed the editing is starting to suck more and more. They can easily turn it into a sitcom, sans the laugh-track, and still relay the same information.

When I used to set up at the Nashville Flea Market, I've purchased porch columns from Frank, but never purchased from Mike, for his items at the time consisted of your common antiques, whereas Frank's were more of the architectural salvage kind, what I was into and flipped at the time.

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending

I actually had a similar idea... to rent out one of those storage lockers and put a few bitcoins in it for the show hoarders ahaaa.

Wait, there's this Dirty Jobs guy... And if I recall, mining is...

I just thought of another idea. How about a reality show set in the future where, inside some futuristic museum, curators talk to clients about the items they own.

Curator: How can I be of service to you today?
Client: My grandfather, Gavin, gave me this when...
Curator: OMFG! Do you know what you have there?
Client: No! What does it do?
Curator: That's an Avalon Bitcoin Miner. One of two that... Blah, blah, blah.
Client: What's it worth?
Curator: In the condition it's in, I would say about 2.31 bitcoins.
Client: OMFG! That much? I need to set down.
Curator: Twice that if you have the manual.
Client: I may have some hand written document...
Curator: Chinese or Esperanto?
Client: English. And I have a video, although grainy. Do you mind if... What the hell is that thing over there?
Curator: A box of fans. Now about that video,...
Client: What does it do?
Curator: Give me a quarter and I'll show you.

That would be a neat idea, Phinnaeus. It would require a LOT more money to make it happen, though. I think my idea would definitely be easier to make happen. If there's enough interest in it and it doesn't work out to get on Pawn Stars, we could definitely do a second round of fundraising to find an old, junky slot machine that could be customized to do exactly what you said and have the 5 coins go with the machine instead. If the project still isn't accepted on to American Restoration for a televised event, then Tuxavant could still have Rick do the work and we raffle off the physical coins, BTC, and slot machine to participants who tried to make any of this become a reality. ^_^

I'd pitch in to help cover shipping of the raffled physical items, as I assume a slot machine wouldn't be cheap to ship. :p

Seems like we have one support other than myself! Who else?! (:

So I was trying to think of ways to get the BTC name out there and even more public. I have one idea that I'll try and post about later, but I also have this one.

I'm wondering if anyone lives in Las Vegas that's a trusted board member??? I think it would be great for such a member to get his/her hands on 5 Casascius physical bitcoins of the .999 silver variety worth BTC10 each and apply to go on Pawn Stars to sell it during a taped session. One can apply to be on the show from this link: http://www.history.com/shows/pawn-stars/articles/want-to-be-on-pawn-stars

I think it'd be great to get the community together with this member and have everyone donate a small amount of BTC (.5BTC per donation), up to the  BTC50 amount, along with the extra costs of purchasing the coins. These coins would then be delivered to said member and an application to be on Pawn Stars would be submitted.

Why do I think this would work? The guys at the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop love silver, for one. Secondly, they love making money on anything they can, and for the right price, they might just buy them. Being as all the coins are from donated funds, it would be O-K for the seller to take a hit on selling the coins severely under value ($10-$15) if necessary just to make the deal happen and hope to get it on the show. The pawn brokers could redeem the BTC off of the coins and then sell the useless coins in the shop above the cost of silver as collectibles for anyone who has an interest in BTC. That, or they could try and sell them with the coins still loaded, though I doubt they'd attempt that due to severe price fluctuations.

In the event that Pawn Stars isn't interested in taping an episode with such a sale, the coins would be returned to an escrow agent (someone like johnthedong), and then anyone who donated would be entered into a raffle to win the 10BTC balance on each coin (5 winners), and 5 more will be chosen to win the spent silver coins. The goal is to get them sold on TV for PR, but there also needs to be a fair way to distribute these coins and their funds back to the people who at least tried to make it happen.

If there is enough interest in this, please respond in the thread. If it looks like we could get enough donations, I'll talk to johnthedong about setting up an escrow address for everyone to donate to and contact Casascius about when the coins could be secured. I don't live in Las Vegas (or anywhere near it), so we'd need a trusted member who does live there or near enough that they're willing to drive and do this in the event the application is accepted.

P.S. Obviously, I'm open to contributing my .5BTC! ^_^

Not sure what he could do, but this is a good guy: https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/tuxavant-38164

I like people who think outside the box, and this is a good example of such a case.

Allow me to improve upon the idea if I may/can.

There's another show filmed in LV that may provide a better chance to expose (wrong word?) Bitcoin--American Restoration by Rick's Restorations, an antique restoration shop.

Here's the plan: Source a rare antique slot machine and have the crew convert it into accepting only those Bitcoin Silvers. Have the graphics be reminiscent of some days-gone-by mining concern, as well as putting a Bitcoin symbol on each of the three wheels, of which would be the jackpot.

This wouldn't be cheap, but when done, should have no problem selling it and recognizing a little profit.
