I read on a site http://mandactif.com that in many cases the manipulation of bitcoin trades is not illegal. Is this true?
The manipulations is not illegal because bitcoin itself is not legalized by any knowing governments. Manipulations Is not ethical but were we are we need the manipulations to make bitcoin price look attractive to investors of the like mind. With time when bitcoin go mainstream we would see that the issue of manipulations will be a thing of the past and bitcoin will follow other investments of like mind.

Anything that involves modification, manipulation and changing the course from main source is considered as illegal in my country. I think this rule is logically applicable to everything that is genuine. Manipulation for price change of currency to feed the wallets of greed is obviously very bad and illegal I think.

Some countries just don`t consider bitcoin as a currency or asset. Therefore the price manipulation of bitcoin or all the other cryptocurrencies is not covered by those countries legislation, which means that it isn`t illegal.
There`s no penalty if some exchange platforms manipulate btc and altcoin prices.
The good news is that more and more countries accept bitcoin and consider it a digital currency or asset like all the fiat currencies and real assets. This prodives come protection against scams.
Thing that is not covered in legislation of country is not legal but its neither illegal. Until any solid actions taken into account for making that thing legal or not, anybody can deal with that thing. As price manipulation is concerned, yes it is not illegal in many countries as more of countries are accepting bitcoins as currency as said.

Yes because there is no any separate authority/government body responsible for monitoring such practices also bitcoin is anonymous and hard to track, so people can easily move bitcoin from one hand to another without government knowing about those transactions this makes regulating bitcoin trading even harder.

Price of every trading assets are being manipulated for decades and bitcoin is not different than any of them.

Well it has happened in the past already. Check out Chinese exchanges. They used to do fake volume trading and in essence doing price manipulation, until PBoC has stepped in to put tighter regulations around bitcoin trading in China. So it not legal, however bitcoin being decentralized in nature, was able to do that in before. I think it is still happening in China, however, since there is already regulation in place, then have somewhat try to do it that PBoC can't see it as price manipulation but rather some big whalers just putting big orders.

It is illegal in certain countries such as the United States.
You should look  up if it's illegal in the country you're operating from, or any country you're interested in.
But even if it is, chances are that nothing will happen to you.

This is also true as well. USA has a very tight law and if exchanges should be found doing artificial to the price they might be charged. But then again, USA hasn't approved ETF or as far as I know don't have regulations yet in place to check what the exchanges are doing is in the norm of US regulation laws.

As long as bitcoin still unregulated by government and there is no law governing it, then it's not illegal but I am not saying it's a legal thing to do. Price manipulation may happen in some exchanges, but we can't predict it, there's no way to figure out about it as we don't know how much exactly an exchange trading volume, whether they show to us the real number or not. But, fortunately there are many exchanges out there to compare bitcoin price in one to another exchange, which prevent an exchange to manipulate so much.

Legal means accordance to law. Can you find any book of law containing any reference about Bitcoin and its trading? It isn't fiat money of any country. It is traders' decentralized currency. No law so far limit any kind of cryptocurrency trading. You are free to make 2 accounts on exchange and juggle the prices.  Grin
Manipulation taking place at very high rate in cryptocurrencies. Consider BCH for a moment, do you really feel BCH demand rose 2-3 times in last few days! It is just an output of pumpers/dumpers.
However, if you judge on ethical grounds such trading practices are really wrong for noobie and new traders who loose their big amounts.

Bitcoin market manipulation is becoming more rampant in the past many months and they are still considered to be not illegal (though saying it is legal is not also right) as we are dealing with a decentralized and yet unregulated trading space. Plus I think it is virtually impossible to enforce any anti-manipulation regulation or law for that matter because of the global scope of cryptocurrency. We are then hoping that the Bitcoin market can get so big that manipulation can be harder to achieve. I think that is the best medicine we can use against manipulation.

Bitcoin price manipulation is illegal. If you cause havoc and that interests the SEC, you could be charged.

It depends on what kind of manipulation are you doing or what are you position on doing it. If you are just a whale trader that holding huge percentage of token supply, then there is no wrong for that kind of manipulation. The case will change once you are the owner of the exchange.

In some countries, you can be charged with money laundering and violation of the SEC regulation code that listed BTC as an asset that can be traded like stocks and whatnot. Also, BTC is being traded widely throughout the world and I don't think it is that easy to press charges to someone who's artificially hyping the price.
