I'm starting to think the chinese Gov't holds BTC to stockpile - the announcing of news makes it perfect for them to scrape in a few lowball offers before price corrections through market demand.

From time to time, there will be alt coin hype such as this week.

This is when founder/developers from the alt coin/ipo cash out their bitcoin to enjoy the beach and bitcoin takes a temporary dive.

$2000 seems too high expecially looking at today charts, but it isn't.
With the increasing adoption the value will be at a new ATH in few months, maybe Russia can ignite the spark for the next rally.

I'm thinking that way too, everyone are scare of doing anything, just waiting for something to happen...

And when it happen, better stay ready. 

People right now is just in spectator mode. They are holding, and the ones outside the game are waiting. What we get now is just market noise. Once things start moving again, we'll see a super bubble again, with a further correction (higher than previous price)

i believe with this because my expect with bitcoin more than $2000 because start high bitcoin just in this year and it still grow and grow more . with many rich investor coin and payment internet it will be amazing later . bitcin the most best bussines insider this year   

You're definitely right about this. The question is if it will start moving in '14. Obviously it won't stand but should be much higher than it is now.

You need to understand that when price starts moving up, and breaks that initial resistance, everyone remove their orders and sit n wait to see how far it will go.
On stage two, traders who trade short term realise that they cant re-buy lower than for what they sold, and re-buy higher, thus pushing the price again upwards.
Third stage is hype, when news of something rushing up the chart and then everyone want a piece.

There is nothing wrong in expecting 2000$/btc, but do i think that price will stand.. probably not.

Yeah, if there's a bubble this year we will most likely see $2000 at some point. We may be below that threshold by the actual end of the year, but we will have crossed it by then at least once.

Anything from $1,900 up to $5,000 is realistic since Bitcoin is booming in so many places.

2000$? That is too much ! Probably 1000-1300$ is the best price for the end of year, but 2000$ is too much because there aren't many news which justify this probably increasing.

MSM is the biggest contrarian indicator ever. If anything, such an article would suggest to me that Bitcoin is in for a bit of a correction.

I don't really get it. If we pass 1000 again, the price should go much migher than 2000. Once we surpass the ATH and a big milestone, gold price, news will hit the press and people will panic buy like crazy. But I really don't think we can pass 1000 that easy.

Bitcoin surpassing price of gold will be BIG in terms of press coverage and this will bring loads and loads of new buyers. However, once speculators do what they do, the crash will be also big.

Because they aren't here right not, not really focusing on Bitcoin.

I've changed my view on bitcoin and I do find it a good investment for a niche clientele. Those anarchistic, fiat-scared, goverment-hater people. Wall Street and other mainstream guys will only get on board when the stock crashes. And by then, it will be too late for them to buy a bitcoin. Or too expensive.

Anyway, there's also physical gold and silver on the market and people trust these more.

Last year it went from 200 to over 1000 in the last quarter off the year. Why couldn't we go from 600 to 2000 in the last quarter off this year? These investors probably know things we don't know about money coming in.

The dot.com bubble of the late 1990s was $7 trillion and the internet back then was largely an obscure thing to most people. 

Then we also have gold which is a $2 trillion investment and a $4 trillion commodity.  Even then gold has its' draw backs.  If I am a wealthy person in Iraq or Syria and if I have to flee as a refugee, I can only physically carry so much gold on my possession ($1 million in gold = 25 kgs) and I risk my gold being seized by bandits or scrupulous border officials.


 
It's not a question of IF crypto currencies will be worth trillions but WHEN, and I think when is not decades but years.

Crypto currencies are still only $10 billion versus its' true realization that it'll be trillions someday.  We are all technically early adopters.

And another bubble prediction. In the end of the last year people was saying this year in April or May we will hit 1.000 again, and we are now in July so?

people thought it hitting 1000 last year (500% gain) was far fetched too. they were laughed at, ridiculed, and then scorned when they were right and got rich when everyone else had already sold.

At least one area of the world where people live the longest, they do not have a word that means retired. 

Watch out. The system has enslaved us to the extent that people no longer even know the meaning of that word -- retired.

You people need to relax.
In the long run, owning a few Bitcoins ought to be enough to let you retire.  The ride is a long one though.  Short term speculators are in for a world of hurt, IMO.

What some short sighted speculators fail to understand is that we are looking at a possible paradigm-shift, the dawn of the first truly global currency! If Bitcoin performs to its potential I fully agree with the predictions of at least 100 k for 1 btc in 2-3 years, the growth could become explosive.

I would not be surprised if the price was 10 k by christmas.

lol why? why is a 250% increase more far fetched than last years 550%? or the prior years nearly 1000% seems pretty conservative considering a bitcoin hedge fund is launching in like 3 weeks.

the whole $1200~$1100 last year was completely unexpected.......

In the BTC market anything is possible....I expext 10K with in 2 years from now, and 100K within 3~4 years from now however.

That price sounds some realistic but stills being a little fantasy to me, i believe on Bitcoin prices rising but not that much, maybe $1000 dollars would

be just fine at years end, and six months later those $2ks will indeed be true...

I think he's just off by a few months, but otherwise correct. For whatever reason he omitted the amount of time that has normally been passing between each price spike top. Got a little excited maybe.

I too use a logarithmic scale. I had made this graph weeks ago (it's printed on paper next to my computer) but I had no way of easily sharing it.

To compare our graphs, we are obviously thinking the same way-- just that I allowed for some more time between the last spike and the next predicted one. It actually seems like we are a few weeks late to the next spike.

Your graph doesn't allow for the same period of time between the next predicted spike and the past several spikes. If you pull more graph data from the past, you will see there is a pattern of about 7.3 to 7.8 months between each spike top.

What was the reason you didn't allow for that same amount of time until the next spike? From what I gathered from your video, it sounded like you anticipated the progression of time between spikes will speed up. Per the last 3 spikes this didn't occur however.

The bull run should begin any day now, possibly in about 1 week. It should be moving up steadily in 2 weeks.

These predictions are always wrong, you can't get close to predicting where Bitcoin is going unless your a billionaire and manipulate the market.

Last time a previous all-time high was passed (~$250/$260), I thought something like $350 or $450 would be enough, but BTC blasted all the way to ~$1,200. This time we will not have GoxBots and Gox$ inflation but the good news/fundamentals are so strong.
It will be exciting...  

I would tend to agree that we are due a big move this year

I agree. Actually, I predict that within the next 2-3 months we will be seeing a spike to $3,400-$4,500 per bitcoin and then a crash back to correct the spike.

I'm just trying to figure out what the news will be this time that makes this happen. Last time it was China jumping on board. This time I think it may be the Winklevoss ETF becoming a reality, Barry Silver's (from SecondMarket) BitcoinTrust or a similar investment gone mainstream, causing a mass interest in Bitcoin.

I agree too, but let's hope there won't be too much negative news this year as it would push the prices down again and i'm hoping to have a nice little profit in 2-3 years.

I agree with you..this is most likely scenario.

If it does hit 2000 before 2014 is out, expect it to crash back down to 1500 within 60 days.

Personally, I think it will boom to at least 2500, and crash to ~1800 within 60 days.

Not being Bear, i think it will go up to 1000$ thats a 340$ increase a coin in 5 months, just being more realistic. You don't want such a volitile jump to 2k anyways too many people would split.

I don't buy it but honestly the price has skyrockets before, altough i think it has become far more vast and spreadout i don't see it shooting up or down like that.

$2000 is a low estimate, once the market gets moving again.
Before year end, we have a real shot at $3,400+ and then the true crazies will be predicting $9K to $10,000 before Christmas.  

Sorry, but this is so far fetched ... So this guy has the guts to predict a 200-250 per cent increase in the value of BTC. 'cmon, guys - how can he be serious about such a call. These guys are as big of a damage to the reputation of BTC as the ones trying to discredit it.

I am not an economist but in reality i see it hitting 1000$/1BTC around the end of the year not 2000$, i feel that 2000$ would be a bubble.

Why is it not optimistic? Sure, it's been a bit slow this year and the price hasn't shot up dramatically, but the price isn't everything. I think there's plenty of reasons to be optimistic about bitcoin. Its potential is literally global, just have some patience and keep spreading the word.

I guess he is right, but he failed when he compared number ob Bitcoins out there with the number of population of England. That is not to be compared, since global acceptance is not there yet. We need like 5X more users to use bitcoins than ATM to make his words come true. Till  then nothing special will happen.

I hope this is true, the current situation is not optimistic

Value of virtual currency predicted to soar as demand increases

The price of one bitcoin will reach $2000 by the end of 2014, a venture capitalist has predicted - a 226pc increase from the virtual currency's present value.

Speaking at CoinSummit in London on Thursday, Geoff Lewis, a partner at the Founders Fund, said he will be "really bullish when there is low volatility" but estimates that the value of one bitcoin will soar during the next five months.

On Thursday afternoon, Bitcoin was trading at around $615, compared to almost $1,200 at the end of November. After a clampdown on the currency by Chinese authorities in May and the collapse of online exchange MtGox, its value has fallen steadily in the last six months.

However, other industry experts agreed with the optimistic price predictions made by Mr Lewis. Millionaire investor Roger Ver, who has been called "Bitcoin Jesus" because of his backing of businesses involving the currency, said that he expects the price to boom.
"I actually think $2000 is a pretty conservative estimate," he told The Telegraph. "We don't know for sure if it's going to happen in this year, but there's no doubt in my mind that Bitcoin's price is going to be thousands of dollars and, almost for sure, tens of thousands of dollars for one."

Mr Ver, who in December 2013 donated 1,000 bitcoins to the Foundation for Economic Education, first became involved with Bitcoin in 2011, when it was priced at $1 per unit.

"Currently, there are not enough bitcoins for every person in England to have one, and it is a worldwide currency that can be used by any person on the entire planet," he said."

"If there are not even enough for each person in England to have one, the price of Bitcoin is going to have to be a heck of a lot more than it is today."

There are now over 13m bitcoins in circulation, and analysts predict that there will be 8m user wallets by the end of the year.
