Closed Bitcoin-QT on pc1 (from where i sent the coins) after 10 seconds

Your client need to broadcast the transaction to your peers and your peers then further relay it to the whole bitcoin network.
So, you should not close your client immediately (or in a few seconds) after creating the transaction.

That's the important part. If you close the client immediately, you won't give it time to broadcast the tx to the bitcoin network. You should wait a few minutes. Usually it's much sooner, but better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the reply.

I checked on blockchain.info.
The only transaction on there with that specific target public adress is the second transaction I made.
The first one is nowhere to be found.
I know this because the 2 transaction amounts were different.

This probably means that the first transaction was never transmitted.
Since its now more than 10 hours I can safely assume that the first one will not pop-up.

I believe the transaction is rebroadcasted by your Bitcoin-qt client but only after 24 hours.

Maybe you was connected to bad peers this time, seeing the tx id would help

All paid signature campaigns should be banned.

From what I understand, you said you recovered wallet 1 from a backup - and the transaction in question is now gone, right?  If the transaction did get broadcast and it just has not completed yet (I would need the transaction ID, the sending public Bitcoin address and/or the public Bitcoin address you sent to in order to find out) and it eventually completes it will appear in both wallets.

I now wait until there is at least 1 confirmation before closing QT.

Next time, you can go to blockchain.info, enter your address (the one you send your btc to), and see if you can find that transaction.
If yes, then you are ready to go.

My question is: how long do you need to keep open Bitcoin-QT after issuing a transaction ?

I experienced the following when transferring coins between 2 wallets (on 2 different pc's):
Sent some coins from wallet1 to wallet 2
Closed Bitcoin-QT on pc1 (from where i sent the coins) after 10 seconds
Funds were deducted from my balancel on pc1
Funds never arrived in wallet2...

Even after starting up Bitcoin-QT on pc1 and waiting for 1 hour, transaction was never confirmed.
But the bitcoins were gone from wallet.
I had to re-use a backup wallet and let Bitcoin-QT re-sync before I got the coins back (and they were still in wallet 1)

So all well, but still.
I now wait until there is at least 1 confirmation before closing QT.
