Is it safe to show other people and place on websites your Bitcoin wallet receiving address? Couldn't someone forge a wallet with your address and then start receiving your transactions?

If you care about anonymity, don't display it.  Displaying it links all the funds and transactions to your online persona, and gives away information to anyone who would want to trace the flow of funds.

Your receiving address is a hash of your public key.  This is safe to give to people, because you can only spend the bitcoins sent to an address if you also have the private key, which is safely stored in your wallet.dat
