I would love to 'attend'.  Let me know if there is anything I can do to help organize or promote it

If someone can suggest an open source alternative that we can easily get working let us know.  Whereas I had problems getting skype to work on Linux in audio, Ekiga and Jitsu wont even login.  I am able to login to both ekiga and getonsip on their websites but when I try the SIP clients they fail with an error message.  I tried theses services when Skype suddenly didn't just work after my last upgrade.  It turned out I had to make a lot of adjustments to the computer:  I had to add an audio-server, and set it up.

Awful..
Internet video/telephony would be important enough to keep willing users from abandoning windows. Linux really needs to get its shit together on this one!

How would the good members of bitcointalk feel about a world bitcoin party linked via Skype with all other parties at the same time worldwide. We could have speakers from local btc community about how they find bitcoin in their area and what needs to be done for improvement.
Food & drink with the only payment accepted btc.
Please reply post with ideas and if you wish to be an organizer.

This sounds like a cool concept.   I am in!  Let me know when this happens.  I can also organize on my end.

Cheers

multi-screen on skype requires premium membership which not-everyone has
we would limit our market

better use BitParty ^ and make it on our own  Cool
Only one member needs to have premium afaik.
The real problem is privacy-related.
Skype had many privacy issues since it was acquired by Micro$soft

I don't like skype.
Let's use an open alternative.
Anyone who knows what's state of the art?

Hey, I bought BitParty.com last year with that idea in mind.  Anyone want to run the web site and organize parties?  The best way to get newbies involved is to have some kind of event that is just not a discussion of bitcoin.

I'm in!

It should be strictly party, with a bit of info and srs business, but not too much.
A friggin huge screen with livefeeds from the other parties, yes, that could be fun.
And random regular big screens in the rooms which stream one other party only.

Great, spread this thread to all members you know that would be interested and let's get this going.
Maybe new years party,
