Have a toy to play around with?
Here is a $1 toy which doesn't consume any energy, and is supposed to relieve your stress, not sure about making you warm tho, you probably going to have to squeeze it harder. Tongue
But really, jokes aside, a toy that costs you money to buy and money to run doesn't make sense to me,

See, you're talking to a guy who spent 400E in the pandemic on this thing only to ruin that sum once more in furniture damage, so ...I'm not probably the right guy to ask... Grin
And yeah I'm in my 40s!

I see the only possibility with the perfect climate, so cold but not colder to render it helpless at any point, and with dirt cheap electricity and expensive gas.
No idea if there is even such a place in the whole world.

100 a month will drop off my gas bill.using the s19xp or the L7

My thanks for picking the error up

the s19 xp will lose 30 mining so 100-30 = 70 net gain
the L7 will make 120 mining so 100+120 = 220 net gain

A used s19xp is about 3300
A used L7 is about 3900

This is the thing I love about this forum, we have three 3 guys on 3 continents with different climates and with different energy prices and needs, and for two the thing is just bad or ridiculous, (btw Mikey, do you even need heating? ) and for the other it just works.

But the thing in all your equations that I don't agree with is the initial cost.
Now, let's assume the $50 heater from Amazon,  and instead of $3300 you put $3250 in coins!
I'm almost willing to bet, although I know I'm bad at those things that in two years' time the s19xp would have been the losing investment!

well remember the other 7 months the miner goes into the mines with cheaper power. So for me the question is how long can I keep it running. Over 2 years = certain profit. under 2 years = maybe profit.

At the moment I am running 1 L3 in my den as my den is always fucking cold without a space heater.

It is cold in the summer due to ac
It is cold in the winter due to ⅓ of the first floor having a hill which insulates the den and the bedroom on the first floor.

Now if I run the 1 l3+ it make 22.50 a month and save 25 in heat. in a month so 47.50 but costs 70.56 to run I lose 23 bucks.

The l3+ is quiet. it has paid for itself about 5 times over. both in coin and cash.

So If I do a space heater ⅓ of the day the cost is 33.60

either way I lose

 23 to mine the LTC/Doge
33.60 to use a space heater 8 hours a day.

So I mine with the L3 and take the 23 dollar loss over the 33 dollar loss.

This absolutely would not work in so many parts of the world

mikeywith = never heats his house.
stompix = electric power is higher than 14 cents
me = works 5 months a year.
with ancient gear the L3+

But I kind of want to use an L7 as I will profit. then put it in the mine in April

But really, jokes aside, a toy that costs you money to buy and money to run doesn't make sense to me, people say they want to learn more about BTC, and that's fine, but you could learn more about it by reading 5 pages on Bitcoin Wiki than doing this project, also it involves little to no DIY in the first place. If this was a USB miner where you would learn about running a full node, using GitHub, and one or two SSH commands -- that'll be great, but that space heating projects are just a straight line with little to no learning in the process, I could be wrong, I don't know.

So I can do the L7 which will be harder to make quiet.

I suppose if it's pretty cold outside, you could run a duct from the outside with pretty cool filtered air directly entering the miner, the fans will have to spin very slowly, changing the cheap stock fans to better ones would also make it a lot less noisy, however, using the stock fans + sucking room air which will eventually be somewhat warm will make the miner noisy given that you don't have many options in regards to frequency, voltage and fan settings.

It also doesn't offset your power bill because at 10 cents kWh, you are going to pay $150$ in 3 months, so you would only be saving $50 a year which won't be enough to get you these nice-looking fans and shrouds, so what is the ultimate goal of all this?

Have a toy to play around with?
Most of the 3d printing DIY stuff is just a way to say you've done things yourself cheaper while in reality, you pay twice as much and waste 4 times more time on it.
But it's fun!

It's not something to be commercially viable, all mining space heaters have failed terribly and all businesses went bankrupt, they don't make sense economically but they are fun for some, and tastes are not something we can discuss without bias. If people want to play round, then so be it!

the s19xp makes 10 a day I burn say 11 so I lose 30 bucks but the heat it makes will lower my heating bill 100 a day.

Sorry, but it does not make sense...
The s19xp will burn 72kwh, worth $10, what kind of heating system do you have that costs you $100 a day to produce the same heat as an s19xp?
For $100 a day at those prices, you can run a 30kwh heater, there is no way an s19 would replace that.

I ordered some more L7’s .

at the moment the L7 makes more value per watt then any piece of gear.

It makes over 15 a day using 75 kwatts.

So in the winter I can run it and make a small profit at my home.

My home has 14 cent power or 10-11 dollars burned in a day.

So if you want a space heater this makes sense.

the s19xp makes 10 a day I burn say 11 so I lose 30 bucks but the heat it makes will lower my heating bill 100 a month. (note the edit.) so I gain 100-30 = 70 a month if I use the s19xp

So I can do the L7 which will be harder to make quiet.

or I can do the s19xp which is easy to make quiet using the epic controller

When the L7s come I will test and try to get a good heater from it.

So wouldn’t a 1 board m50 be better.?
You would need 240 volts.  You could set it to normal -15 % freq. and 3333 watts.
cause it is 1 board you would do 1111 watts. and the lower frequency setting would drop you to maybe 800 watts doing around 30th about 28 watts a th.
and the s9 does 75-80 watts a th.

Gone are the days in which you could use an S9 for any meaningful purpose unless for stopping a door from slamming (tho the S9 is pretty light so might not work on all doors), I believe the whole point of space heating using a Bitcoin miner is to be able to either offset the power bill or at least make a somewhat a small decent amount of BTC to hodl.

Burning 700w for 8TH is just a waste, it won't offset your power bill and it would only generate half a dollar worth of BTC a day, so for a whole winter you are looking at what $50? a 6 month winter would be $100? so 0.00144 BTC for 3 months and 0.00288 BTC for 6 months, of course, the next winter with the halving these numbers could be cut in half.

It also doesn't offset your power bill because at 10 cents kWh, you are going to pay $150$ in 3 months, so you would only be saving $50 a year which won't be enough to get you these nice-looking fans and shrouds, so what is the ultimate goal of all this?

I rather develop that gear into a space heater.  you would be doing well under 40 watts a th rather than the 80+ watts a th the s9 uses.

*Listens intensly*

some advice the s19's have dropped to low prices.

the epic control board is able to set voltage at 12 volts.

I somehow don't get the idea: the only reason is aesthetics? It's just sort of a 3d printed plastic box for the Antminer S9 miner? There are no extra vents or other gimmicks to improve the heating function specifically?

Guessing you didn't even look at the guide XD That's okay lol
Well a post that says - we wont tell you anything about it, look at these great pictures, download this zip file onto your computer.

Now - please - tell me why people should think that is OK?

That's exactly the sort of thing that the majority of the internet knows they shouldn't do.
Though plenty still do it and thus you have virus based bot nets ...

No, frankly, I didn't. I have no time for it, like most people I believe. Besides, I never download suspicious zip files from the internet.  Grin

Perhaps you could describe briefly?
