WTF is bitcoinfoundation doing if they didn't even think about basic shit like this?

Looking important.
Pretending to be really busy.
Removing bugs from the "reference" software that is also the "protocol".
Having luncheons with VIPs.
"Out of office -- in a meeting."

the deposit of this trademark is not just more than a joke

No originally some crazy lawyer tried to trademark Bitcoin in 2011 and was rejected, but for other reasons. This could actually go through if nobody appeals it. This is why Linus Torvalds tm'd Linux to prevent this from constantly happening

https://www.google.com/search?q=woman+in+spain+owns+the+sun

she was kind enough to not collect a royalty from earthlings for using its light. Thank her.

Is this freak going to threaten exchanges?

besides, we're open source. We can rename bitcoin anytime we want.

EDIT: I have a great idea for a new name "a currency not called bitcoin".
- What is the name of the currency?
- "I tell you: it is not bitcoin".
- But what is the name, the real name?
- "I already told you, the name is not bitcoin".

With such a name we are resilient to any trademarks. You cannot sue someone for NOT using the name. It is better than recursive acronyms, like WINE. Or "The Doctor, Who?". And it will confuse attorneys to great extend Smiley

Is there not some sort of exclusion for something that has been known by the public for a certain amount of time?

I know when I was going to file a patent, one of the regulations was that I could not patent something that I had publicly disclosed more than a year prior.

Trademarks and patents are different things..  two companies can hold the same trademark just in different fields for instance.   There will be a period opened to public comment, and the existence of the common law trademark for the existing bitcoins could be pointed out then.

However, this same thing happened in 2011.   Now we have the bitcoin foundation,  why the heck did they not register the trademark to the foundation already?   I really do not yet get the purpose of this foundation.   They charge crazy amounts of money for memberships.   They say "Our mission is to help people exchange resources and ideas more freely."  yet they allow no comments on the blog,  and have a forum that says it is closed to registration.   Just what the heck do they do anyway?
