Yeh, they charged me 50 bucks.  WTF!!!

Yupp, sucks to send transaction in these network congested times.
If you sent from GDAX instead of Coinbase, you would have avoided the $50 fee.

I can assure you that the problem is not with coinbase or bittrex, it's with bitcoin network. The network is currently congested with around 280513+ unconfirmed transactions. You can check it through the below link,

https://blockchain.info/unconfirmed-transactions

Due to such huge unconfirmed transactions, the network fees has become insanely high. For a simple $370 transaction, the blockchain wallet is asking for $68 transaction fees. This is insane and that is the reason why the price of bitcoin is going lower constantly and people are moving to altcoin like ETH and Ripple.

It is not only a coinbase / bittrex thing, it is a bitcoin thing. Due to the network congestion in the past few days, transactions are taking way longer than normal. In any case, remain patient and follow up on your transaction by checking the blockchain.
