Everything worked out. The block synchronization froze about 75% of the way through, so I downloaded one myself, used rescan, and prayed Smiley

I reinstalled it on another computer and replaced the wallet.dat with the backup. It seems to be working fine so far. Is that good or no? I had no idea it would take so long to download

Yes, it will take several hours at least to download the blockchain.  Hope it solves your problem!

Thank you for your help. Damn hidden files  Angry

I reinstalled it on another computer and replaced the wallet.dat with the backup. It seems to be working fine so far. Is that good or no? I had no idea it would take so long to download. I'm tired, that's why I seem extra noobish.

My fault for running it in Windows.

the program crashed and can't be reinstalled.

Step 1.) Create a backup of your existing wallet.dat

That wallet.dat can be used on any computer to recover.

If you want to try getting that specific installation back to being operational, remove all data files except for wallet.dat and then launch Bitcoin again.

How can I get my bitcoin back to an offline wallet? I used the Bitcoin client to receive coins that I had been paid, but then communication with the server to synchronize the blocks stopped, and the program crashed and can't be reinstalled. What do I do? I've been trying to import my wallet into another offline program so that I can claim the funds, but I can't find any.
