I've been cutting holes in the gyprock of the walls where I live and sealing in valuables for a long time. Many people do it. Old trick. No one can tell no one could guess. A little cube however... Too easy to carry away.
There is a book (many books?) on how to hide things. Basic idea is to integrate your stash into your regular surroundings.

this is also nice idea how to hide your stash.

Nice idea.

But always keep a backup of your keys.

Make 2 cubes with same address, store in different places.

I just ordered a cryptosteel on indigogo  Wink

I ordered a cryptosteel on indiegogo as well!  Nifty little piece, and will definitely keep my bitcoins safe  Grin

Doesn't drywall burn?

That would make a pretty weak safe, no?

Its not a drywall, only gypsum.
... and its more safe and fire resistant than paper wallet.

p.s. ( Dont throw your cube in flame.  Cheesy )

Even if my storage was made of fire proof materials I wouldn't purposely throw it in the fire because why take the risk. It's not worth it just to see whether or not it can withstand the elements.
Better be safe than sorry. I think it's only really meant to add some protection in the event of fire etc.

There is anti fire paint based on acrylic acid, its cheap and easy to apply.

I wouldn't trust anyone else other than myself when it comes to long term storage of my BTC.
This idea is cool but what's wrong with just sealing an envelope containing the paper wallet or sealing shut a small tube containing the wallet. Either way, it takes a bit of self-control to be able to store BTC for that long especially if the price skyrockets beforehand and you have the desire to peel it and sell.
I may give this (or a similar idea) a try and just save up a small amount of BTC for the future.

Yes, its really hard to control yourself... but I prevent this.
I write on my cube: "If you open this cube before year 2025, you are biggest as*hole on this planet"   Grin

I think the self control is the hardest part of it all. Say now you store 5 BTC and for the next 3 years it's worth about $1k then in the fourth year the value rises and it's worth about $12k it'd be very hard not wanting to crack that open and shifting the coins.
Then again, should you sell and the price rise even more, you'd feel like an idiot for selling...

If you are VERY serious about saving your bitcoin for 10 years. You can try to make a transaction with "nLockTime" at a block height 10 years in the future. IMO, 10 years is too extreme. One or two years is more practical.

Here is an old thread on the "nLockTime" topic:

interesting concept

So 50 years from now someone will be digging in your backyard, find a paper wallet for like 1BTC and it will be worth 1 Billion USD (which will be just enough for a loaf of bread in 50 years time, assuming USD still exists) Cheesy

Interesting idea, but I doubt it would hold up to a "brute force" attack by anyone who realizes what's inside, I've installed my fair share of drywall and I know gypsum is pretty easy to break. I'd suggest instead of marking it with a Bitcoin logo or something similar (as seen on the video), just leave the cube plain with no identifying marks. Better yet, if you can sculpt, make the mold in a different shape to disguise the whole thing as a small decorative statue.

Overall I don't think it's a bad way to store your money long-term as long as you don't make it obvious what's inside. Definitely better than leaving a paper wallet lying around where it could be stolen or photographed.

edit: It would be cool (but pretty obvious that it holds money) to make a mold in the shape of a "piggy bank", bonus points if you can seal the film canister inside while leaving enough hollow space to actually drop coins in through the top. Smiley
