I built and ran bitcoinstarter.com for about a year, due to a lack of any real business, I shutdown the platform. You can list on indiegogo and add your bitcoin address (you might get a request to remove it though or have your campaign temporarily suspended). Startjoin also was doing crypto crowdfunding, but stopped taking new campaigns a few months ago. It just wasn't a money making opportunity, I ran it for the community aspect of it, but the cost to maintain the security and such became a bit much, so I moved on to other projects.

You only run afoul of regulations for equity crowdfunding, you won't have any issues with the SEC with just raising bitcoin for starting a project/business.  Cool
I had the thought of that when there would be a Bitcoin related crowd funding platform, that it wouldn't be a success as people are not really interested in it.

And your attempt to bring such a thing in reality shows it as well unfortunately, but just out of interest, was there ever a fully funded serious project on your platform?

I think https://bnktothefuture.com/ can be considered as bitcoin version of kickstarter but i have not seen lots of projects from new enterpreners there and only projects like bitcache, bitfinex, kraken etc are being funded there. You may find few projects to invest into and also going through their site bitcoin along with other alts are accepted.

Haven't invested or used this platform before, does anyone have used this one to invest into any projects?

Is that actually a legit site ? Says it has had 100 Million invested in the past few projects. For a site that I have never seen any advertisement or never heard of, that number is a little hard to believe.

Its not a new or a never heard of site. Here is an article from '15 about them raising some money: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/equity-crowdfunding-platform-bnk-future-passes-10-million-invested-mark-1436301711

Have had no personal experience with them, but believe they are legit.

Does indiegogo allow me to list out any bitcoin related project onto indiegogo and accept payment for it in bitcoin ?

Is there a filter for getting selected to be listed on their site. I am interested in crowdfunding a mining rig I am working on.
1.Yes,there are already a number of bitcoin-related projects listed on the site.Try using the search filter.Oh and your idea is already been asked before https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/bitcoin-farm-expansion-entrepreneur unfortunately it didn't raise a single penny as investment. They don't accept bitcoins I believe.

2.The projects listed there are quite realistic and have the blue prints ready.Mining rig and stuff is scams you know.If you still feel like giving it a shot, start here.

So, question: Is there a Bitcoin version of Kickstarter?  A platform where people can pitch ideas for businesses/products to the masses and find backing through Bitcoin?  I am looking at launching a business and was thinking about this idea as a potentially amazing platform.

Unfortunately no.It's quite opposite here, unless you have some skills or you're ready to shell out a few grands,no one takes ideas/concepts seriously. However, you can always pitch in your ideas to the right people or just the community as a whole,if you're lucky you might just find a helping hand.

Also, please forgive my ignorance, but has Bitcoin been classified as a money or commodity, by the IRS?  The reason for this second question is due to the S.E.C. trying to "protect" small investors...  If Bitcoin isn't considered a money, but a commodity, then I could see it opening up the option for people to "invest" in a company via a kickstarter platform with Bitcoin, and eventually receive a dividend in Bitcoin.  Even for a initial investment of $5 (unlike the $5 "donation" level most kickstarter campaigns have).

US does have specific laws on the use of cryptos, not sure if IRS takes them seriously. If you liquidate your 1000 bitcoins to your bank account, expect a raid from IRS next day.Considered as money laundering.

Barring the S.E.C. and the classification of Bitcoin, I imagine you could just once remove the Bitcoin through another Alt currency and accomplish the same thing.

What's the point ? You gotta liquidate it to use in real life which is not running away from the IRS.

I apologize if my thought process isn't as concise as it could be.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Counterparty might have what you are asking, if not then you might as well just do a startup.

Yes you might need a money transmitter license if you are staying in a country that has laws against Bitcoin.

This has been running in my head for a while now...
What about Kickstarter start accepting pledges in bitcoin?

I've been thinking, there is already a site for that and Kickstarter has been doing good so why make another one with the same concept but with just the currency that is different? You know.

Tell me if I have a good point here.

I believe there have been versions of Bitcoin based kickstarters but its difficult to get interest, since not a lot of people pay with bitcoins and the interest you would get on any project would be small. Most of them have already died out.
