we need some more time (years) - infrastructure and more layers on top of bitcoin before we could reach mainstream.

That's not going to happen overnight
. Bitcoin is still not mainstream and the majority of Average Joes still not aware of it or watching it with a mix of curiosity and suspicion. BTW after a fork with currently unpredictable consequences and most likely with some disturbances in that time, it will take time to restore confidence, and get back on track. 
I believe Bitcoin it has already entered into the mainstream and is in itself considered a global payment processor, as that is exactly what it does.
