Your RAM sounds sufficient for the platform. It's very odd that an application would crash a vm so hard that it can't be pinged, that's kind of not supposed to happen.

2 gb ram free, ubuntu natty.  The vm itself is 32-bit, running on a 64-bit ubuntu lucid host with VirtualBox.

Doesn't happen every time, probably one time in three though.

Now I just try to start bitcoind, update the blockchain, do my transactions, and get out.  But if I forget and leave it running, often the entire instance will lock up.

To build a business on this, I'd like to know that I can leave it running 24x7 with no issues.

How much RAM does the VM have? And is the VM running a 32-bit or 64-bit OS? I've seen bitcoind require just over 1GB of virtual memory and just over 256MB of physical memory.

I run bitcoind 3.23 on an ubuntu vm.  I use this vm all day, every day, usually with bitcoind not running.

But a couple times a week I fire up bitcoind to move coins around, and within 10-20 minutes the vm often hangs.  Can't ssh into it, can't ping it, totally unresponsive.

Works fine day after day except when bitcoind is running.  Anyone else seen this?
