- criminals
- scammers/hackers
- anonymous
- nerds

So far that is the first thing that come into my mind.  Grin. I think majority will also say that bitcoiners are delusional because how can you make money when you can't physically hold it?  Grin

Majority of the people whom I interact take bitcoin as ponzi and people involving with them are ponzi promoter.
They also think bitcoiners are insane breed of people but anyway they do not hate bitcoiners.

I honestly pity the people who depend on what other people think about them. What matters most is what we think about ourselves obviously, but people tend to forget that a lot.

The most popular Bitcoiner stereotype in my opinion: Ponzi infested scam world filled with geeks and nerds dreaming about making it big!

I usually encounter:

- Low life individual
- Drop outs
- Scammers
- Addict (Porn, Gambling, and etc.)

Though the unusual for me is that, I heard that:

- A church/community is now investing in Bitcoin. (Now I know where the offerings go) Hahaha, Well if this is true then Praise thy pastor! XD

You can add to the list. The list would go on since almost all the stereotypes have been to all people who use bitcoin.

For fun lets throw around bitcoin stereotypes that people tend to say:

Bitcoiners are:
-athiests
-libertarians
-pro guns
-males

add some more that you have heard and lets keep this fun

You can add all the bad things in this world, because it is used by governments and our competition to scare people.  Wink

1. Bitcoiners are Paedophiles and Porn addicts.
2. Bitcoiners fund terrorism
3. Bitcoiners are criminals and money launderers
4. Bitcoiners are Ponzi scheme members
5. Bitcoiners are Scammers

Feel free to think of anything that can be negative and you will see that Bitcoiners were supposed to be linked to it. This was the same thing that was said about early internet users and now everyone use the internet.  Roll Eyes

If I were to make a stereotype, I'd say Bitcoiners are mostly young adults in their twenties and middle-aged people who try to make some money with investing in this cool thingy that keeps growing for years. Many of them have some background in programming or just good with computers, so they can see that the system is sound and is not some scam.

Also there are stereotypes for each major social platform: on this forum it's a young person from third and second world countries trying to make money with bitcoin and other cryptos to get themselves out of poverty. On reddit it's a millenial who is mostly in crypto for trading. On twitter most Bitcoiners seem to be geeks who like to tinker with cutting-edge stuff like Lightning Network.

Fun discussion!! But let me ask you that how many people from you local community know that you are a bitcoiner? We also shouldn't tell it to anyone unless it is legal in your country! Bitcoin is neither legal nor illegal in my country, so I mostly keep it to myself!
Perhaps they can assume from what I posted in my social media accounts, people nowadays are judgemental and easily jump into such conclusion.
Might as well, we are into illegal cyber activities since we sat whole day in our computer and the worst they see me into porn thingy. Darn it, am I too hot?  Grin

More recently, right-wing extremists. But in the past, people have also called bitcoiners as underground criminals who would do nefarious stuff with their internet money during the rise of the Silk Road. Right now, my friends who know that I'm meddling with bitcoins tagged me as someone "lucky" who had been at the right place at the right time, with the right amount of bitcoins during the bull run. They aren't wrong as most of us here are truly lucky to have witnessed and participated the climb from $1000 to $19000 in 2017.

None the less, I want to be stereotyped as libertarians because that what we all are longing for!

Might as well add pedophiles on the list. These stupid stereotypes 🤦‍♂️. For some reason people fail to realize that bitcoin and cryptocurrency holders/users/enthusiasts are such a huge demographic that I don't even know how you can generalize. Yes, I'm talking about you Jamie Dimon.

I just want to remind that we do not have to be affected by this. We cannot be stereotyped.

From what I heard,  we are also gamblers, money launderers and nerds.

Yes bitcoin is only used for laundering money, buying drugs, and gambling.

Only computer nerds understand bitcoin Grin Grin
