The problem with decentralized exchanges is the liquidity and the lack of a strong userbase. It's sometimes hard to find offers that meet your needs.

Atomic swaps/LN seem convenient when it comes to crypto trading so hopefully that will kill certain exchanges.

As with Bitcoin, functionality comes with adoption. As long as people are complaining about a weak userbase instead of making part and strenghten it, there will be no decentralized exchange. The future is Bisq and OpenBazaar.

We want to take out the man in the middle anyway, so it makes more sense to use decentralized exchanges instead of feeding some CEOs a lot of money.
Use BISQ: https://bisq.network/
I can confirm that it works well.
