Don't worry too much. I wouldn't be surprised if this is merely a publicity stunt.  Unless they receive some largely profitable offer, I imagine they will "sell" it back to themselves aka a "private bidder" and settle for the free exposure.

That's my conspiracy theory for the night. Tune in tomorrow — same Bat-time, same Bat-channel!

That's a very clever PR idea but I'll save it for the next time ;-) The closure / sell is for real.

This is really bad news. The service was working really good so far (using it for txt4coins.net). I hope someone will buy and continue soon.

This is a fantastic service, and is an integral component of the low-tech "Do-It-Yourself" merchant point-of-sale system I describe here:

I officialy confirm the above statement. BitcoinNotify was put on sale in a blind auction model several hours ago.

Just to let you now, there are already three buy offers better than initial 99 BTC.

This means BitcoinNotify will NOT be open sourced but will be sold to the highest bidder.

The blind auction continues until this Sunday, 13 of November 2011. Feel free to join by submitting an amount you are willing to pay to [email protected]

Thank you for your interest in BitcoinNotify. I'm positively surprised by the quality of offers and volume of interest the statement generated so far.

Got this today by e-mail,

Dear User,

BitcoinNotify stops operating as a service and possibly gets open sourced.

---[ WHY? ]-----------------------------------------------------------

Any payment service requires a very careful maintenance and we were doing so responsibly over the recent months.

The service has never suffered any hack or a major technical problem, earning the trust of hundreds of users.

However, we can no longer invest resources necessary to ensure perfectly safe and robust payment processing. And we are not the ones to keep a half-ass service online.

We are sorry for a short notice, this was an urgent decision.

---[ FOR SALE ]-------------------------------------------------------

Should you feel like buying BitcoinNotify, please submit an amount you are willing to pay.

The highest amount wins the blind auction. The minimal amount is 99 BTC. Yes, you can possibly buy the whole business for as low as 99 BTC unless someone bids more.

This includes:
- complete source code (Ruby on Rails)
- bitcoinnotify.com domain
- database (enabling you to resume the service where it stopped)

The source code base is not large, relatively clean and conforms with ruby on rails conventions. It should be easy to navigate for a rails programmer.

Deadline for submitting buy offers is on this *Sunday*, 13 Nov 2011.

IF there won't be any offers, the source code will be published on Github.
