In all seriousness, we could use more Laszlo's. The only thing I bought with BTC aside as hedge were shitcoins to daytrade against.
I would like to change that myself and make a game a bit similar to the mechanic found in Project Entropia, but with crypto.

I think the big misunderstanding about this is it doesn't make much sense to buy BTC and then immediately spend it. You're just incurring bank wire fees, trading commissions, mining fees, and possibly extra "network fees" if you buy through Bitpay......just for the sake of spending BTC. It makes more sense to spend USD in that situation, especially since I get cash back with my credit card. The one exception is buying on a DNM or other situation where privacy and pseudonymity are paramount.

This whole situation would all get flipped on its head if people got their salaries paid in BTC, and vendors in the supply line accepted BTC. Once BTC starts being treated as income then people will spend it that way. That's how economies work.

Until then, the circumstances strongly incentivize treatment as an investment asset. And when you get down to it, can you blame anyone for investing in one of the scarcest forms of money in existence? I can't. Satoshi knew BTC could be worth millions a coin if it caught on. So do all the HODLers.

Every year when its Pizza day there are people who are calling the guy an idiot because "he should of held", its not the point. I sold tons of BTC at the $100 level and tons of ETH at the $10 level and I don't regret it.

Oh I definitely regret my sells from 2014. I just try not to dwell on it. It's painful to think about how easily I spent or sold or lost or gambled away BTC in those days. It was magic internet money, easy come and easy go! Cheesy

Imagine being this guy, dumping a hard drive with 7,500 BTC into the garbage in mid-2013: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/20/man-lost-127-million-worth-of-bitcoins-and-city-wont-let-him-look.html

He was desperately pushing to have the city let him excavate the landfill he believed it was buried in. They denied him. Ouch!

Its not good to hodl bitcoin and never spend it, if you want it to succeed as a currency then you need to spend it.

I have immense respect for Laszlo and honestly anyone who is willing to regularly spend their BTC. If no one spends their BTC it would have no market liquidity and no value. I also respect that BTC can provide life changing gains if held by early adopters, and I think it's probably fine if most of the economy is comprised of savers rather than spenders at this point.

Laszlo on an interview said that he's happy to have it and became part of the history of bitcoin. If it's not because of Laszlo, others won't see the use of bitcoin. Determine yourself, it's ok to use and spend your bitcoin because that's the purpose of it.

Yes, I think it was an interview in 2019, and you can sense that there is no regret from the guy. He wanted to use bitcoin and prove it.
Really an admirable guy. Here are the people including me who feels regret of using those bitcoins for pizzas but don't realize and appreciate that if it's not because of him, it's possibly the bitcoin economy won't start that early.

You can have it and keep it if you don't want to spend it because it's your investment but, I think using that example from the historical bitcoin pizza is out of argument.

Because bitcoin grow along the way after Laszlo made the purchase. But we have history already, not only that even the store that sold the pizza is already part of the bitcoin pizza day and people go there to celebrate it.
A remarkable and unforgettable contribution from him.

There is no crystal ball that can determine what the price would be.
At today's rate those 10,000BTC could be used to buy over $91 million worth of bitcoin now and drawing that comparison, people say he should have not sold. However ten years from now, those bitcoins could be worth 1billion USD or more and drawing comparison, it would seem a bad decision to sell now.

The early adopters of Bitcoin were pivotal to it's growth, if they simply mined and forgot them in wallets, it would not be as popular as it is now.

think twice before using your Bitcoin when you order today.
That could be the point of celebrating the BitcoinPizzaDay. I read somewhere like some miner listed bitcoins on ebay but failed to get any buyer. But I feel that listing might have served as a promotion for bitcoin, like many people might have gone for searching google about bitcoins even they were not interested to buy at that times. That kind of listing and 10k BTC for 2 pizza are the things which worked in a way to promote bitcoins to rest of people and those things helped to be where we are today.

I love bitcoins and I believe into million dollar value for bitcoins still I needed to sell some bitcoins time to time for various reasons. Satoshi and Winklevoss brothers must be too great in this regard as they never opted to sell any of their stash.

You need to understand that the Pizza transaction was imported because it showed the world that BTC could be used as a currency. If it wasn't for that transaction who knew if it would of ever taken off.

Its not good to hodl bitcoin and never spend it, if you want it to succeed as a currency then you need to spend it.

Its expected for those words to come out in most mouths because they do always mind of on how much money they can make of if they do held those coins.
Yeah its a life regretting thing and for sure that pizza guy do really have that kind of regret in mind but the thing he did way back was indeed a history
which do really shows on that bitcoin should really be spend up and it proves out on how can it be used when it comes to p2p transactions.
Amount is really big in todays price but you cant tell if you are into that actual years back.

I don't get what the point you want to say. Are you mean we should always hold our bitcoin and never sell it? Because if we sell bitcoin now, after 5 years Bitcoin price will multiplied 2219512x ? No one can confirm it, and we can't know what will be in the future.

The programmer (Laszlo Hanyecz) is not wrong to buy 2 pizza for 10.000 Bitcoin. I just think, if he never start to use it as a currency... maybe we can't know if bitcoin can be a currency and the adoption can't so large like this now. Bitcoin need adoption and become a new currency, it will make huge demand for bitcoin and the price will increase.

Laszlo Hanyecz bought the pizza that time wanted to proved that you can buy pizza or at least a physical goods. It's one of the use case of bitcoin back then, and if not for him, we wouldn't see bitcoin taking off for the next 10 years.

But the whole narrative changes, people now thinks bitcoin as store of value, an asset and form of investment. But bitcoin can still be use as medium, I've been using it to pay some of may basic bills up to this time so it won't change a thing for me.

Exactly I keep saying this and I really want people to get the message from us. Spend as much as you can or want to, and especially if you KNOW you have to spend it, then try to do it in bitcoin.

If you're sending money to your parents, try to do it in bitcoin (sell it and then send that). If you want to tip people, do it in crypto. It's how we use btc that will determine its future.

Holders purely for holding don't do anything for bitcoin's value!

May everybody buy pizza with bitcoin!

We’ve all sold bitcoin cheaper than we should have done years ago but what’s important is that we HODL a nice stash for future price rises. You can have an investment stash that you don’t spend & a small amount that you use to pay for stuff with.

Bitcoin can be used as a long term investment strategy but it’s good to use it as what it was designed for, a currency.

I disagree you should use bitcoin otherwise it's useless but this is for another section of the forum.  This sub is for buying/selling of goods.

#BitcoinPizzaDay: 10 years ago
A programmer bought two Papa Johns pizzas for 10,000 $BTC.

That 10,000 $BTC was worth $41.

Today that 10,000 $BTC is worth $91million.

In 2025: 5,000 #pizza = 1BTC 🔥

So think twice before using your Bitcoin when you order today.
