If you actually hired a law firm who told you making this post was a good idea, you should hire a second law firm to sue the first for malpractice and get your money back.
Where to even begin?
I need to speak with one of the moderators of this website.
No, you need to speak with one the
administrators of this website. The moderators aren't legally responsible for the forum and don't even have the information you're asking for anyway.
If you want to protect your users then you're going to need to provide information on the user "Kumala".
Fortunately for you, this threat is almost certainly too vague to be actionable, but for future reference you should be aware that threatening people into giving you something they don't want to give is called "extortion", which is a criminal offense.
He runs CryptoStocks and Vircurex, both corrupt exchanges that have stolen millions of dollars worth of crypto currency from your users.
Allegedly.
We are not asking for private information, only the contact email for this individual so he can be served court papers.
If their email address is not public, then by definition it is "private information". Also, has service via email
ever actually been done successfully? To my knowledge, every time it's been suggested, it's been shot down on the basis that spam filters make it impossible to guarantee delivery.
If you do not cooperate then my hired law firm will file for subpoena and you will be forced to provide much more information than just an email address (as well as potentially appear in court for withholding information on a fugitive).
You're an idiot who doesn't know what words mean. A "subpoena" is not some scary weapon you can use as a vague threat. It's a standard court order which is a typical means of obtaining evidence, and as I recall the forum has complied with several subpoenas over the years. It's also both an empty threat and plainly stupid to suggest that legal action can be taken against someone for refusing to provide private information without a subpoena, when the opposite is the case: providing private information
without a valid court order is a breach of privacy that the forum can be held liable for. Incidentally, for someone to be considered a "fugitive", they have to already be charged with a crime and have an outstanding arrest warrant, in which case it's a matter for the police, who BTW are smart enough to get a subpoena
before asking for private information about the person whom they're investigating.
I would prefer to handle this without getting attorneys involved
You said you already hired a law firm. What are you paying them for, if their attorneys haven't gotten involved? Most likely, you haven't hired anyone, and think you can get your way just by making vague threats and spouting phrases you heard on
Law & Order. Is that what this is?
